roll them a cig and light it for them.
it shouldn't be, anyway.
I did do this for a long time. I'd always get a pack for the person I was pinching off every few trips to the pub though. Now I always buy my own before going out drinking.
Fortunately my friends aren't as tight as you.
Cue "your mum" joke.
I don't give a shit about the cost of the fags people are nicking off me. What pisses me off is that I'll have 2 or 3 people pinching off me, meaning that I run out, and then have to go off in search of a shop to get more at some point during the evening.
and now smoke when I'm drunk on the weekend
it has something to do with slowing down the effect the alcohol has or something.
I often find myself staying up way longer and being more coherent and less fuzzy headed when I smoke in conjunction with drinking alcohol. When I don't smoke and drink I tend to find myself feeling sloppier and tired way earlier.
my friend smokes 3 fags a week during the pub quiz. and that's it
it tastes horrible and the nicotine buzz is rubbish. It's only when drinking and my brain is altered by the alcohol that I enjoy it.
by magnitudes if you've been smoking
But a cigarette on a severe hangover is absolutely horrific... a few minutes of intense spinning out. Like doing poppers that make you really nauseous.
..and I smoke...
A couple of roll ups a day and the odd spliff.
when you and someone else are smoking, you ALWAYS light their cigarette first, yeah?
course you do
I'm not a monster.
Now I'm down to 3 on a day when I'm not drinking.
When I'm drinking, I'll probably have a few over the course of an evening, getting up to about 6 or 7 in a day.
What puzzles me is why people try and quit overnight. Quitting smoking is pretty difficult for most people. The best strategy is surely to gradually cut down and to change your routine so that you're smoking less. I did this by cutting individual smoking opportunities out of my day each day. No more smoking on the walk to the Tube in the morning. Checking Twitter in the bogs for 5 minutes each morning instead of going for a smoke. Not having one on the walk back to my flat. Not putting my baccy packet on the dinner table before dinner so I delay the evening cig and therefore smoke less. It's all about simple steps, if you try and go from 10 or 15 to 0 overnight, in most cases it just doesn't work.
if you want to stop smoking, just stop.
that's what I did. It was difficult for about a week, then it was fine.
If you genuinely want to quit, just MTFU and quit. If you lose willpower when you drink a certain amount, drink less until you no longer crave the fags. It really should be easy.
There are arguments that say cutting down actually makes it worse because each one becomes more special. I've seen people go from loads to 0 overnight and stick at it. Gotta see what works for you, I guess.
I got really lucky in that during a fag break my body just decided it didn't enjoy smoking anymore & I stopped overnight without any withdrawl symptoms. I can & do still smoke when I'm drinking but have no desire to smoke sober at all.
I know a lot of people that practically broke down and stopped functioning the moment they tried to quit.
in between acts at when I go to gigs by myself
when writing an essay
when trying to kill time
adds up to about between 0 cigarettes a day and about 10 maximum
For single types I always think that smoking scuppers your chances somewhat in that approximately 70/75% or whatever it is of people don't smoke. Many of them won't date smokers.
However, I've dated loads of girls who smoke and enjoyed a reasonable amount of success on nights out with depraved cancer enthusiasts who I've met whilst loitering about in the smoking areas...rambling now, has anyone quit at least in part in order to appeal to a wider market?
Most selfish twats on the planet. Having a fag seemily comes before everyone else, no matter what. At least, this is all my mates. Who all smoke but me.
It's minus 5 degrees but we'll have a tab outside before we get in the car?
In the pub with 7 people and every one gets up and goes out to smoke leaving you alone?
Sitting in your mates house and everyone's smoking meaning you're sitting in a smoke tent?
Can't buy a pint but will still go buy cigarettes?
Can't do youer shit office job as you need to go have a tab? Don't worry, it's only 5 minutes. 15 times a day.
Pretty much fucks me off all the time.
but I guess that's just me.
this isn't universal. For example if I'm with friends that don't smoke... I don't smoke. Simple as that. I'm sure most people here would be the same.
Just fancied a Monday morning rant.
This doesn't actually happen. You go in shifts.
In practice it doesn't seem to be that way.
But 7 people going out and leaving 1 person alone? Nah, only a load of complete twats would do that.
Unless the 1 person was an intolerable cretin.
2) you could join them, but not smoke?
3) I guess this might be unpleasant but it is their house?
4) that's the nature of addiction I suppose
5) that's pretty reasonable; no one wants to do their shit job - you seem to waste a lot of time on DiS, for example
but they make you feel like DIRT the following day
and a conceited spark at the other
now then now then now then
I'm all electric now! It's a decent substitute and i feel like i'm in the future.
While I was hurting there were people outside casually smoking while people on the guestlist were turning up half an hour late.
Never had one so don't know how they're more refined. Better taste?
Dunhill cigarettes taste so, so good. The finest cigarette in the world.
think i'll smoke them while playing piano and feeling well naughty. Line up, ladies.
and there's nothing special about John Player Specials, i tell ya
From the age of about 13. Pretty consistently up to University by which time I was on 20 a day easy. Then I quit using Allen Carr's "easy way" book. Bloody brilliant, worked overnight. Then I made the mistake of smoking weed a few months later, then the smoking habit kicked back in. REALLY kicked in. I loved it, smoking bloody loads. Then I realised how utterly pointless it was, I was spending loads of money daily on something that did me no good at all and gave a very mild please (at best). So I read the book again in one evening and have quit now for 8 years or so. I worked out instead of smoking I could buy a record every 2-3 days, so for years I made a point of going out and buying a good couple of albums a week. This has tailed off (mainly because I have a child and I have run out of old classics I "need" to get so am just catching up on the latest releases) but still I am so much better off than I was.
But I realised the death part is fine, it is the years of coughing up (literally) a lung every day before dying in a wheezing heap of blood and pain that I really cared about.
Quit for 4 years.
Started again about 3 months ago due to some stupid shit that was going on.
Realised that was a terrible idea and stopped again last week.
Read the Allen Carr book both times. It's pretty great.
Starting a new job, seems like a good time to break the habit.
Previous attempts to give up have always been thwarted by knowing people at work who smoke and sneaking a crafty cig off them, then feeling guilty about cadging so many and buying them "just for when I fancy one".
PM me if you'd like to borrow my copy.
I'll dig it out again.
