"What I do know is that at whichever club the opportunity arises for me, they're going to be very fortunate, because I'm the best manager I've ever been.
"Yes, I accept it's been a difficult last year, but coming on the back of the work I've had to do, I'm well set to go in and take another challenge.
"And that's the way football works. Everywhere I've been, I've been very fortunate to work at wonderful football clubs, and the next one will be the same.
"There will be opportunities. The phone's not stopped since I left last week"
NO YOU'RE JUST SHIT, SON.
."And if I was a betting man, which obviously I'm not allowed to be, I'd be putting money on Bolton to win the league".
Is he saying he's not allowed to because a) he works in football and it'd be a contentious thing to do or b) because he's a massive Christian?
Whatever people think of them, that's an outstanding gesture.
'Small club having to give them away to fill the ground' kind of angle.
Apparently Jimmy Saville gave millions to charitable causes.
Didn't see any of the Celtic game but it sounded pretty upsetting.
If we'd just held on one more minute each half we'd have won, but can't say Barca didn't deserve it. On the plus side, I did have £1 on the correct scorecast at 300/1, so every cloud, etc.
Can't wait for the home game now.
Except for the two bollock-red old duffers who spent the whole game vitriolically berating every single member of the team for the whole game for apparently not "sticking it to them". Nobody can do self-laceration like old Celtic fans.
You'd have said before the game that we'd definitely take that, but the timing of it was just completely deflating. Still, it bodes well for the rest of the group stage that we hung in there with them. If we can take anything from the home leg we're still in a very useful position.
i can't remember ever being as stressed out about a game of football in my life.
we did well to keep it to 1-1 for as long as we did but part of me would rather we'd had a doing than having the agony of losing it like that.
that whole thing seemed pretty weird
were very fortunate last night. To only lose by one goal, with an away goal in the bank, is more than they deserved. Juventus messing up is also a big result.
Chelsea still have their fate in their own hands. Two home wins will see them through and it is difficult to see Juventus taking maximum points from their own away trip to Shaktar.
The Torres problem is well documented. He is not in any sense a natural goalscorer and when he's not on song, he's not unfortunate, he's rank terrible.
is the biggest one in the group so far- Chelsea, Juve and Shakhtar would have all known that 6 points from their two games against the Danes would very likely be needed to qualify given that they'd all take points from each other. Never nice to lose but I doubt losing in Donestk will be too much of a turning point in the group.
I think some people think he does because he charges around and has lots of the ball, but it completely ruins United's shap/rhythm.
I'm not in KiK's 'majority' who want him dropped by England btw, he's a superb player, just think it's daft to play him anywhere apart from the front 2
OPEN YOUR EYES.
Though if I did I'd point out that he's much, much better than every other English forward
he's been one of our best players in the last three games and played very well, but other players don't seem to know where to go when he's storming about all over the shop, particularly Cleverley. behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 is his best position, imho onion, and our best formation too.
Why are people such utter cunts?
i don't see why clubs don't simply ban players from using all forms of social media. The cynic in me suspects it's because clubs are precious about it having a negative affect on their 'brand'.
There are instances of where footballers make good use of social media - players like Lucas, Vincent Kompany and Phil Neville, for example, provide little semi-interesting peaks into the lives of footballers, or interact well with their club's supporters, but it's a rarity.
On the whole, footballers shouldn't have a platform to communicate with the general public, because they're almost always thick cunts.
If they want to ban them because they think it's more trouble than it's worth or they can't be trusted then fair enough (I'm surprised they aven't already), but if at a match someone's shouting racist abuse from the crowd you don't send the player off
It shouldn't have to be that way round though.
hope we can build on friday's improved performance. jones will hopefully keep the same starting xi.
Full on wined and dined before sitting on my hands in the home end.
Ultimate prawn sandwich fan. I vowed I'd never do it again after the Chelsea game. But it's through work and I've spent 4 years turning down free tickets to stuff because we're a charity and supposed to decline gifts, so I've kept this on the downlow, secret squirrel like
If so I really wouldn't worry about sitting on your hands, watching more than about 25 minutes of each half before wandering inside to plunder the buffet will make you look like a die-hard
Just remembering the game last year - one of the most miserable I can remember. Despite living 20 mins walk away I was 10 minutes late. I was sat next to a giant fat man who also happened to be the stupidest man in the world who spend the 80 minutes I was there extolling his stupidity in a non stop monologue to me. Stewards were all over you if you so much as coughed. 2 posh wideboys tried to start a fight with an old man after he asked them very politely to sit down. Nothing on any note happened in the game. The angle of the away section makes seeing the game difficult as things look closer or farther away than they actually are. I lost all my mates in the crowd after the game and as it was NYE and I was hosting I had to walk home, but having walked towards H&I I was now 20 minutes further away from my house.
What is the news at the Bolton end in regard to appointing Dougie?
There hasn't been a press conference, announcment or anything on the Offical Bolton website that he is your new boss.
We announced he had left for you last night, but nothing has been confirmed for Bolton. Infact hasn't one of your caretakers said hs is in charge on Saturday?
I'm starting to wonder if Dougie done a "Mark Hughes" here.
Our board said that the first contact from Bolton was on Saturday, but there was stuff in the press saying they were in talks and offering a contract way before that. He was odds on favourite at the start of last week.
Something just seems odd.
is watching CL away fans wander aimlessly around Angel. Crazy painted-blue German people, you weren't quite as good as the Olympiakos fans who subjected a supermarket (not the customers therein, the physical store itself) to homophobic abuse a few weeks ago, but I still love you.
I've told this one before, but being stuck on a tube full of Young Boys fans. After an annoucement one of them made a joke in foreign that basically went: *foreign foreign foreign Wankdorf foreign foreign Cockfosters!*
No idea what he said but everyone laughed a lot, including me.
and half-heartedly trying to get aggro with commuters at 5 in the evening is strangely entertaining.
getting to Norwich by rail is a nightmare
that's the only place Norwich is even remotely connected to.
no real surprise there as they've been woeful all season
that was the only football thing I've been enjoying so far this season
like he seemed far too relaxed in every interview i saw, given how badly they were doing
I experienced and witnessed incidents of racism when I was a player.
There was one in particular, during a game against Spurs. After swapping several tackles with a rival player, he got up and racially abused me following one collision. I thought for a second then told him how disappointed I was that he would go down that route with me.
I told him that he was my boyhood hero, that as a kid I had photos of him on my wall. None of this was true but I thought it would make him feel guilty. Immediately, he responded: *Langers, I'm not racist. Some of my best mates are black. I only said it to put you off your game because I couldn't get near you.*
After the game, he came into my changing room and handed me his shirt.
linking to Soccerbase's Richard Langley records- they seemed to show that he never played against Spurs. I guess they could be wrong, or it might have been a reserve game or he's got his details a little muddied.
You can all throw rotten fruit at the racism denier now.
That's a little weird and unsettling), rather than an accusation.
The version of his I read elsewhere was that the player previously played for Spurs but the game was against a different club
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND that allegedly said player is still at Spurs as a coach.
Such an odd, odd story though
An apocalyptic rider looms on the horizon for the game as we know it. Maybe he brings death to all? Or he will galvanise and help us... Seminal moment for the game I love. It has given great woes and joys over the course of my life. I will fight for her. Right now, she needs me
We have absolutely had Marseilles' eyes out on Joey
Admittedly, i've not seen much of QPR, but what i did see involved him being responsible for two goals.
What goals were those then?
Dortmund vs Madrid tonight should be a cracker.
good work numbnuts.
Might not be going to Burnley afterall? Seems to be in a state of limbo.
Richard Cawley ?@RichCawleySLP
The plot thickens with Dougie Freedman. Ipswich now linked. And no instant dismissal when I made contact with #cpfc.
But saying that don't they need a manager?
started out well but collapsed defensively towards the end. Another outstanding performance by 20 year old DANISH centre back Jores Okore up to that point though. He could be world class.
RUINING THE GAME
Flowing football from Ajax and 1-1 at the break
will pop the second half on.
Not pant-wettingly exciting or owt, but good.
so that's a surprise.
he still looks ridiculously overweight a year on from signing for us.
English Champions in Europe since Blackburn?
Whenever I've seen them switch to it (three times maybe?) they get pummelled for a bit, maybe concede then switch back after 10 minutes.
where have you been lad?
They've bossed this game, as they did the City one. Mostly the same side as last year but so much more impressive in the CL now.
Not all bad then.
shame about man city, but at least they cant concentrate on the league
could be some very very interesting games in the next round if the likeliest teams finish 1st and 2nd, as things are looking now
Another part thinks 'ffs, United have been just as dodgy as the other three English CL teams. NO JUSTICE'
but luckily they're very good at reminding me.
excellent posts, these.
question: if we weren't so bad at the back and there was no question at all to how much we deserved the games we've won, would you hate United less or more?
I mean, when we took the league back from Chelsea and played beautifully in the process, our popularity (relative lack of seething hatred our way) was at its highest since the 80s.
and a crack team of Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin rocked up to fight him and save us all, you'd begrudgingly say *go on lads*
70% responsible for their second. No stamina, intelligence, determination or anything really. Dives into tackles for no reason, i guess probably just cos he can't be arsed watching the ball any longer. Will be so happy when i don't have to fear seeing his and gervinho's names on the team sheet.
It's shaping up to good tournament, and they're certain to add a bit of spice to it.
You'll take all 6 points at home, but beating Dortmund away will be a slippery banana.
allegri can't be far off the sack now at milan, surely?
absolutely hopeless. I didn't think they could be as bad as they were at Norwich at the weekend. at least not THAT bad. my lord. Had to stop myself from booing at the end - which i hate hearing - but honestly. Shocking
