"What I do know is that at whichever club the opportunity arises for me, they're going to be very fortunate, because I'm the best manager I've ever been.

"Yes, I accept it's been a difficult last year, but coming on the back of the work I've had to do, I'm well set to go in and take another challenge.

"And that's the way football works. Everywhere I've been, I've been very fortunate to work at wonderful football clubs, and the next one will be the same.

"There will be opportunities. The phone's not stopped since I left last week"

    NO YOU'RE JUST SHIT, SON.

."And if I was a betting man, which obviously I'm not allowed to be, I'd be putting money on Bolton to win the league".

Is he saying he's not allowed to because a) he works in football and it'd be a contentious thing to do or b) because he's a massive Christian?

  • We were allowed to dream for 94 minutes last night :(

If we'd just held on one more minute each half we'd have won, but can't say Barca didn't deserve it. On the plus side, I did have £1 on the correct scorecast at 300/1, so every cloud, etc.

Can't wait for the home game now.

    SenorDingDong | 24 Oct '12, 10:27 | X
    • Incredible scenes in the Celtic pub I found in Kennington for 93 and a half minutes

Except for the two bollock-red old duffers who spent the whole game vitriolically berating every single member of the team for the whole game for apparently not "sticking it to them". Nobody can do self-laceration like old Celtic fans.

You'd have said before the game that we'd definitely take that, but the timing of it was just completely deflating. Still, it bodes well for the rest of the group stage that we hung in there with them. If we can take anything from the home leg we're still in a very useful position.

i can't remember ever being as stressed out about a game of football in my life.

we did well to keep it to 1-1 for as long as we did but part of me would rather we'd had a doing than having the agony of losing it like that.

  • I thought Chelsea

were very fortunate last night. To only lose by one goal, with an away goal in the bank, is more than they deserved. Juventus messing up is also a big result.

Chelsea still have their fate in their own hands. Two home wins will see them through and it is difficult to see Juventus taking maximum points from their own away trip to Shaktar.

The Torres problem is well documented. He is not in any sense a natural goalscorer and when he's not on song, he's not unfortunate, he's rank terrible.

    • The Nordsthing-Juventus result

is the biggest one in the group so far- Chelsea, Juve and Shakhtar would have all known that 6 points from their two games against the Danes would very likely be needed to qualify given that they'd all take points from each other. Never nice to lose but I doubt losing in Donestk will be too much of a turning point in the group.

  • I don't think Rooney particularly works in midfield

I think some people think he does because he charges around and has lots of the ball, but it completely ruins United's shap/rhythm.

I'm not in KiK's 'majority' who want him dropped by England btw, he's a superb player, just think it's daft to play him anywhere apart from the front 2

      stupidsexyflanders @Matt_was_taken | 24 Oct '12, 10:56 | X
    • It might not solve instances of numpty fans, but...

i don't see why clubs don't simply ban players from using all forms of social media. The cynic in me suspects it's because clubs are precious about it having a negative affect on their 'brand'.

There are instances of where footballers make good use of social media - players like Lucas, Vincent Kompany and Phil Neville, for example, provide little semi-interesting peaks into the lives of footballers, or interact well with their club's supporters, but it's a rarity.

On the whole, footballers shouldn't have a platform to communicate with the general public, because they're almost always thick cunts.

      forzaborza @Matt_was_taken | 24 Oct '12, 10:59 | X
      • I'm not sure clubs should be banning players from Twitter etc because other people are cunts

If they want to ban them because they think it's more trouble than it's worth or they can't be trusted then fair enough (I'm surprised they aven't already), but if at a match someone's shouting racist abuse from the crowd you don't send the player off

Full on wined and dined before sitting on my hands in the home end.

Ultimate prawn sandwich fan. I vowed I'd never do it again after the Chelsea game. But it's through work and I've spent 4 years turning down free tickets to stuff because we're a charity and supposed to decline gifts, so I've kept this on the downlow, secret squirrel like

      • No idea

Just remembering the game last year - one of the most miserable I can remember. Despite living 20 mins walk away I was 10 minutes late. I was sat next to a giant fat man who also happened to be the stupidest man in the world who spend the 80 minutes I was there extolling his stupidity in a non stop monologue to me. Stewards were all over you if you so much as coughed. 2 posh wideboys tried to start a fight with an old man after he asked them very politely to sit down. Nothing on any note happened in the game. The angle of the away section makes seeing the game difficult as things look closer or farther away than they actually are. I lost all my mates in the crowd after the game and as it was NYE and I was hosting I had to walk home, but having walked towards H&I I was now 20 minutes further away from my house.

What is the news at the Bolton end in regard to appointing Dougie?
There hasn't been a press conference, announcment or anything on the Offical Bolton website that he is your new boss.

We announced he had left for you last night, but nothing has been confirmed for Bolton. Infact hasn't one of your caretakers said hs is in charge on Saturday?

I'm starting to wonder if Dougie done a "Mark Hughes" here.

Our board said that the first contact from Bolton was on Saturday, but there was stuff in the press saying they were in talks and offering a contract way before that. He was odds on favourite at the start of last week.

    Something just seems odd.

  • Richard Langley:

I experienced and witnessed incidents of racism when I was a player.

There was one in particular, during a game against Spurs. After swapping several tackles with a rival player, he got up and racially abused me following one collision. I thought for a second then told him how disappointed I was that he would go down that route with me.

I told him that he was my boyhood hero, that as a kid I had photos of him on my wall. None of this was true but I thought it would make him feel guilty. Immediately, he responded: *Langers, I'm not racist. Some of my best mates are black. I only said it to put you off your game because I couldn't get near you.*

After the game, he came into my changing room and handed me his shirt.

    LordLuciusBanter | 24 Oct '12, 14:13 | X
    • Seems it's gone now but I saw a tweet yesterday (NOT from a racist Chelsea fan, cheers)

linking to Soccerbase's Richard Langley records- they seemed to show that he never played against Spurs. I guess they could be wrong, or it might have been a reserve game or he's got his details a little muddied.

You can all throw rotten fruit at the racism denier now.
