Cabin in the Woods (spoilers probz)

Si_Badvibes [Edit] [Delete] 10 replies 17:27, 22 October '12

Watched this at the weekend. Really enjoyed. A horror-comedy that was at least funny, if not scary. Also nice to see a film that has a mystery going on rather than a twist.

Most of all I liked the fact that it's so ambitious. Would have like monsters to have been genuinely scary- they were a bit 1980s 15-certificate horror for my liking.

  • Loved it

Deliberately avoided all potential spoliers before I went to see it and was all the better for it.

    • I think the 1980s 15-cert stuff was intentional

given what happens as the story unfolds...

      • I get your point but still- imagine how powerful it would have been

if it been scary or disturbing AND funny. It could have pulled it off so easily because of 2 simultaneous narratives.

        • It's a symptom of the US certifications I think

They have to keep it fairly tame to avoid a prohibitive rating and to appeal to 14-21 yr old virgins. Shame, cos I agree with what you're saying.

  • i also watched it this weekend and bumped the old thread about it but i can't remember what i said

really enjoyed it but knew nothing about it beforehand.

it's a comedy and not a horror and i don't think you can ever combine the two unless you're deliberately trying to make people feel sick like in Last House on the Left

  • I disagree

I think you can pull of tragedy and comedy in the same film in horror/comedy genres - it's notoriously difficult but American Werewolf in London pulled it off. I also reckon Shaun of the Dead did kinda - maybe it wasn't scary but it was sad.

I really enjoyed it so it's a small complaint really.

  • Watched this again the other day. Loved it just as much.

One of my favourite bits of the whole film touches on what you're talking about.
    * spoilers defz *
The bit on the pontoon when she's getting smashed to bits by zombie redneck. Pans out to a TV screen and the production team are all celebrating and having a wonderful time with her getting brutalised in the background. Amazing.

  • Brilliant film, one of my favourites of all time I reckon.

I found it more hilarious than scary. <3 Fran Kranz
