It's largely true.
(Although it does annoy me that a lot of the really good stuff that the majority of footballers do gets totally overlooked)
Or have we just grown up?
I idolised Lee Sharpe and the man is obviously a giant helmet and from a young age as well but I think your point about the kids playing is very valid. You get way too many kids thinking they've got it made now, the likes of Ryan Tunnicliffe smashing up a 60k car whilst drink driving after one first-team appearance makes you sick. There wouldn't have been the chance for a kid like that to have a 60k car when we were younger innit.
During the first week at my first ad agency, staff took me out to the pub for a bit of an agency booze session--all covered by the MD, ofc. A few pints into the session, members of the social media team began regaling me with some of the more bizarre incidents in agency life, one of which involved Lee Sharpe.
Allegedly, at one product launch he was involved with, Lee Sharpe propositioned one of the agency girls by asking her if she would piss on him.
in 1980 Peter Shilton was arrested for drink-driving after being found at 5 am in a country lane with a woman called Tina in his car. When Tina's husband Colin arrived he said the pair were partially clothed. Shilton hurriedly drove away and crashed into a lamppost. He admitted 'taking a lady for a meal' and was fined £350 and banned from driving for 15 months. He then had to endure countless terrace chants of 'Shilton, Shilton, where's your wife?'
