Fucking love Weird Science
A novelist struggling with writer's block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence.
from sand, from garbage, out of thin air
you tricked me with your reference to an iconic 80s teen flick!
didn't know what was happening and to be honest, I was frightened, but it felt ok
There's an interview with Paul Dano in which he talks about it (briefly) here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/sep/20/paul-dano-like-idea-consequence
admit it, this is just an indie weird science?
I also fancy Zoe Kazan a lot as well. It looks pretty grim though.
One of the biggest surprises of the year. First half is really funny, there's a bit of a rubbish 15 minutes when it turns into Meet The Fockers for some reason, then the last half an hour is some genuinely solid, actually a little disturbing drama. With a few funny bits in.
and liberal arts
There's a protracted letter-writing montage scene involving a newly discovered shared love of classical music.
It has its moments but is offensively bad in parts.
basically every dissers wet dream. Didnt like the very end but liked everything preceding that. Interesting that Zoe Kazan wrote it. She is also ridiculously hot in it, as shes obviously meant to be.
i like how it turned genuinely unsettling. paul dano is great in it
I bet it won't be in any cinema within a 50 mile radius of me though.
Interesting look at male/female perspectives on relationships. A man looking for an ideal of a woman and how an actual real life woman might deal with having to be judged against that. For that reason though the end was a mis-step. He didn't deserve a second chance.
looks like Tristan in this
