been reading some comics today.
by a mile.
also rodger the dodger and minnie the minx
I read a really weird thing the other week about a Marxist analysis of the Beano and they derided him as the token middle class kid in a working class neighbourhood.
He always seemed like a wheeler-dealer cockney type!
This could be an awesome thread.
ive got about 40 annuals back home, i wonder if they're worth anything
And I was sent a letter saying that I had been awarded Lifetime Membership of the Beano Club.
At the time I used to hate Calamity James, but I think he is one of the best now.
I think Les Pretend was my favourite. I remember one time when he dressed up as a Haggis. Also loved Dennis. Who didn't?
worst was Crazy for Daisy; the drawing was just really bad
and there was no storyline ever.
And he was called Ernest.
I was only a member for a year or two. I loved the googly eyed furry gnasher badge that they sent out on joining.
I wish I had the Beano T-shirts I used to have in my size now.
and then one day, I just got it. I think it was one where the artist / writer got bored of whatever the story was, and ended up just drawing pictures of cartoon mambas with implausible patterns on with arrows pointing to them.
Rodger the Dodger all the way for me.
I know I'm supposed to, but I just don't like them.
Always felt like a nostalgia fest (even when I was young) rather than people reading them because they were any good.
Dennis was incredibly mean sometimes
Not anymore; from what I've seen since Dennis The Menace might as well be Walter with a stupid hair cut
then the Bash Street Kids
the first one was way better, didn't like the film festival theme of the 2nd myself
I don't really remember them, though I have a vague recollection of the characters sitting in a cinema. I mainly just remember the theme - the jingle that went 'B-E-A-N-O videostarrrs'.
I remember the presenter being trampled on a lot.... & that's about it. But I remember Beano Allstars having an awesome intro sequence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96ojFSfQdHA
proper lad, i had a badge of him and used to run around trying to be him
no longer exists !!!! :(
its been changed into 'Wild Asia'
what a crock of shit
kids these days
A kid got kicked out for kicking gnasher in the crotch and had to spend the rest of the day say on the coach.
Each page turn in the Beano just meant being one page closer to The Numbskulls
Viz is much funnier.
The modern parents is genius
Biffa Bacon is nastier (dennis has become a good boy) and funnier (I love the endless supply of teeth that can be knocked out)
Roger Mellie (and his profanosaurus)
Felix and his unfeasibly large Ts
It really is just the beano for adults.
which means that me reading the beano now, is just a sad reminder of how much I used to like it and how it is nothing to me now
dont you like viz?
I dont believe that you wouldnt pick one up and read it if it were lying around
Stopped reading it when I was about 9/10 as I had this sudden paranoia that I should be more 'girly' so started buying Girl Talk instead and sticking their posters of bunnies round my bedroom.
