We must never forget.
There was absolute chaos.
If I remember correctly, it was 2006.
GIF's shimmering away.
Embedded YouTube videos.
Size 72 font in lurid colours.
A hideously broken board.
The sights can never be unseen for some of us.
a whole host of first-time visitors to the site broke down, wept, and went back to Malcolm Tucker in order to remind themselves what good clean language was like.
I am taken back to HTM Hell Day.
`drowned in sound welcomes chris is cool!` that reduced me to hysterics.
"um, could the users please refrain from breaking the site?" :')
(with the possible exception of Marcofella bigpants fiasco day)
My massive face
send me £5k and I'll finish the redesign :(((
get some nerd to do it or something?
It's all in Ruby on Rails and I can't stand that stuff.
Get them all to give you a quid and fix this rust bucket of a website once and for all.
Until it turns out we're all massive skinflints with no plans to contribute financially to the boards we use everyday.
Plus you have to be in the US to use Kickstarter, due to the Amazon platform they use. It's meant to be launching in the UK, but I don't think it has yet.
I just have to find a way to work around it, and then desperately put my hand out.
And there are no rules about not spending the funds on coding, in fact there are thousands of code projects on there as it is, e.g.
There's that other site Indiegogo too that was available in the UK before Kickstarter was.
It's not like you're all rolling around in banknotes. The whole concept of money just feels awkward to me.
The easiest thing would be for me to go and get a proper job, let the ad revenue build up for a year, and then relaunch.
The only problem is that there's still a lot of stuff that I do that no-one sees, that keeps the traffic up, battles away the spam, etc, etc.
sure there must be a way to get round that coding issue...i would pledge easily, this site keeps me sane in my shit job
throw in a signed photo and things get interesting
most people who use the site often would(and should)cough up.
I gave wikipedia a fiver when they were sticking their hand out, so I'd certainly give you anything up to £3.50.
If you build it they will come.
i spend enough bloody time on here, might as well.
is the site still using RoR?
our developer yesterday told me he won't be able to work on it until March, so I'm about to advertise for someone else to come aboard. Ideally what I'm looking for is a technical person who's up for being a 'co-founder' (to use the start-up term) who'd want to be involved for the long haul.... or maybe a web company to buy a share/the site. My current investors are artist managers, and were great at getting the DiS label off the ground, and doing the deal with Sky (gee, that was such a great idea! All that money spent building other websites before the plug was pulled)
the rebuild is about 80% done - although I have about 90 tweaks/improvements I want to make, but we didn't want to change much new stuff (like pulling in audio and video on articles, building a decent releases database, making it so that people can rate everything properly...) until the site is live and we know that it's live and stable.
No really. I'm proper good and stuff.
and I don't really like the ability to see pictures either
But the ability to post a picture with your post could lead to endless hilarity.
there would have been widespread sackings across the UK (london/manchester)
i wish i could unsee that!
Maybe you're in with a chance!!!!!
How much of the business would that buy me?
i'M NOW TOLD CHINA IS BEST, WHEN CHINA MIGHT NOT BE BEST!¬
Noone would be able to go on at work, which means youd have a load of barely formed weirdos talking about the egg party theyve got planned with their mum or whatever
so you could toggle show automatically / click to view / hide photos
seemed like the best idea.
