Man Has Relationship With 15-Year-Old is a news story, because it's illegal (assuming it's a sexual relationship).

Teacher Has Relationship With 16-Year-Old is a news story, because it's illegal.

Teacher Runs Away With Missing 15-Year-Old is definitely a news story.

if you're talking about a 20 year old student shagging some 55 year old tutor, then no it wouldn;t be, but the person would be an adult, it isn't the age difference, it is that she is a child and he isn;t and that he abused a position of trust.

      • Not trying to be contrversial, but...

i don't find a 30-year-old and a 15-year-old having some sort of relationship THAT outrageous, even if it's a sexual one, which we don't know it is.

Course, it's a bit sad on his part, and he should know better, and ought to be sacked, but i don't necessarily think it makes him a bad man in this case, or that it warrants a long custodial sentence, providing she's safe and returns home, of course.

Obviously, were she much younger, yeah, but she isn't. When i was around her age, most of the girls who either went to my school or lived locally were involved with older men, and though i'd want his head on a platter if i was her dad, it's just something that happens.

Also, there's generally a clearly different attitude towards these sort of things depending on the gender of the elder party. A 15-year-old lad having a bit with a 30-year-old female teacher would be deemed a much less serious affair and even broadly trivialised. This is almost certainly down to female privilege.

So yeah, i repeat, not justifying what he's done, if he indeed has, he shouldn't be allowed to teach, but he's hardly Fred West, and a bit of perspective's probably needed.

He shouldn't be going out with her and should have known better. But I can't help feeling that a 30 year old going out with a 15 year old is hardly PAEDOGEDDON.

There were a couple of relationships between teachers and pupils at the school I went to and they were just tolerated quietly. I know of a teacher and pupil who started their relationship when she was 15 and they ended up getting married (and as far I know are still together). I think it's more prevalent and less shocking than the general media reaction would have us believe.

        1) I'm not the bloke in the news
        2) Teaching 15 year-olds for an hour is bad enough let alone spending all day with one...blimey
        3) This has to be the worst career move I can think of

All the schoolkids where I work are pretty freaked out / grossed out about the concept of running away with a maths teacher - can't blame them either! On the whole I agree with some of the posts above that the teacher in question has not committed unspeakable crimes, but at the end of the day he was trusted with teaching someone's child and instead he elopes to France with her - I feel really sorry for his wife and the kid's parents. Once he's out of jail he's got stacking shelves as the only viable career choice...what is he thinking???

Firstly, you're assuming he's been boshing her. He might not have.

Even if he has, i'd be surprised if he got anything more than a short custodial sentence.

There was a case relatively recently where a female schoolteacher fled with a 15-year-old boy, and she received a suspended sentence. Assuming he's not had sex with her, anything much more severe than a similar sentence would only add further fire to those who think that the law is inherintly misandrist.

Without that, it's 'just' abduction of a minor. Which is obviously pretty serious in itself.

Thing is whether he goes to prison or not, his life is utterly fucked. His teaching career's destroyed, he's going to be on the sex offenders' register for life, he's never going to get a job working with children (or probably a job with any responsibility) ever again and pretty much everyone knows his name, his face and what he's done and I'm guessing that, even if he ever had a chance of making it as a musician, that's probably gone too. Facing the real world and trying to adjust to a life where he's widely known as a sex offender is probably going to be as tough, if not tougher, than any prison sentence he got.
