i don't really get nervous so its an unfamiliar feeling that i'm finding pretty disconcerting. its putting me right off my stride.
NEVER take heroin
you would have sold your computer if you were on heroin
good idea tho - if the interview wasn't in the morning then i'd go for a run before.
Like Johnson and his Tai-Chi
Worked for me. I used to get nervous about silly things like phoning up places or going up to a customer services counter and asking a question. I would almost practice the conversation in my head and I'd make excuses not to talk to people. Then I had to take a job in a call centre as an only option, a few days of that and I could talk to anyone, anywhere even if they were a complete arsehole.
I give myself one of those awful, third person, Bruce Willis in Friends-stylee mirror pep talks which are so embarrassing that if I was ever spotted doing one my testicles would shrivel up and drop off there and then.
does it REALLY WORK?
i guess there's a reason why it exists as a technique
But it works for me when I need to get my game face on and pretend to be a competent, functional human being who can interact with other humans in a professional manner.
put the rocky tune on and chase chickens in a yard
Then put things in perspective. If it doesnt go well life goes on and it wasnt meant to be. You have nothing to lose.
plus they know you're gonna be nervous. also, they aint interested in your qualifications, youve already covered that in your CV/letter off app. they wanna see whether you can potentially fit in. be cool and GOOD LUCK
have a whole day tomorrow to prep as well
still shitting it tho.
that's true i have nothing to lose. I do have a slight habit of blowing things out of proportion.
stops the negative thoughts, innit.
ok, serious answer. avoid drinking caffeine based drinks as this will heighten anxiety. try to get plent of sleep tonight. make sure you are prepared and feeling as confident as you can. self talk (internally is fine!) - remind yourself that you CAN do the job and you will be great at it. during the interview - remind yourself that the people interviewing you are human too and expect you to be nervous. if you feel yourself starting to panic concentrate on your breathing or something mundance like counting the seconds tick by on the clock. good luck!
i don't know what mundance is but it sounds fun
release the energy.
You'll never be nervous again. You'll be screwed if you ever come face to face with a bear though.
sounds weird, but what is there to be nervous about? You don't work for them, if they start being a dick (a la the apprentice final) then they can fuck themselves quite frankly. You can laugh at it and walk out, what are they going to do - fire you? Just chat to them as if you have had a couple (just a couple) of drinks, but be friendly and professional. Look them in the eye and sound interested. I suppose you have to look at it like YOU have the upper hand, not them. They need YOU to work for them, not the other way round.
YOU NEVER WORK IN THIS TOWN AGAIN!!!!
Put a few drops in everything you drink from now til then and take it with you for a heavy squirt in the mouth (wahheey) right before you go in.
Also bananas are very good, they contain potassium which is supposed to be good for helping nerves. Would always nosh one off before a music exam.
Good luck Chris, knock 'em dead.
try as much as possible to picture the interview in as much detail as possible. In an ideal world you should know the room layout, the number of people present, the questions that are likely to be asked. Do a mental rehearsal of the perfect scenario with yourself as an observer, studying your body language and what you are saying as well as what the interviewers are doing, and the ideal outcome of the appointment.
This probably sounds like a bit poncey but it does work. It will give you confidence and preare you fully
just go in, be yourself and hope you get the job. all your suggestions are just gonna blow his already fragile mind.
I have no doubt it works for you, btw. But CB seems like a different sort of cat.
just think you've got one of those minds that doesn't need to be cluttered with shit. you know...
and it'll bring up some tips. It works.
but a few slow measured deep breaths can work wonders to help you think clearly and reduce those butterflies
