:DDD thank you to the moderator whoever did it. <33333 xxxxxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxxoo
this post I don't remember making at all though it proved incredibly true.
I am so pleased.
I'm so angry with myself. I should have sent out the email before.
You're another one for the perma-ban pile when the site's fixed, Gabrielle-Rose.
This is my last thread really. What email?
Good, fuck off. Glad to see the back of you, you right-wing nutjob.
I actually used one of your threads where you listed all the moderators to find the usernames, so this is all your fault really.
Nope. I honestly think you're scum.
Someone explain what's going on here please?
This removes any thread you might have started and irrevocably destroys any threads you posted in so they are utterly pointless to read.
Given Gabrielle's been on here so long I didn't agree to delete all her past profiles since I knew it would destroy a LOT of site content.
However, I'd forgotten that she would then just email everyone with moderator powers and one of them would blindly agree. I've emailed all of them to tell them not to ban anyone who requests to be banned any more. It's all a bit late, though.
Matt's going to bring in two levels of bannings soon, one that's like the old one and one that's like the new one. When that's in place I'll just ban people I see coming back after requesting they were banned since they obviously didn't want to be here anyway.
It's within a users rights to be able to delete their profile if there is the function to do it and probably NOT within a websites rights to refuse to delete certain profiles for their own personal reasons.
The profiles were removed by several different mods so it is nobody's fault, but I think it is a positive healthy move to clear some of the past content from the boards (as many have done), and actually really good for people like hofo who had content which would affect future career options (as he said himself)
To reiterate, it is within a users rights to be able to delete their own content.
Perhaps there will be a site fix which will repair the look of 'damaged' threads.
you agree to whatever terms and conditions the website sets when you sign up
there were none for this so it's a free for all.
For god sake please just delete her. Fuck the site content
It's actually all done but if anyone wants to delete this profile as well, I won't tell anyone. x
The forums I know don't allow you to delete your profile. They allow you to edit your posts and you can, therefore, spend hours going through and editing them to nothing if you wish (I've seen people do that).
Although anything good they posted tends to have been quoted by later posts anyway.
Deleting posts and users on here totally fucks up threads, whereas it doesn't so much on other forums.
would have been to /keep/ all the old posts.
I'm all for respecting privacy (i.e. no enforced real name nonsense and avoidance of using other people's IRL names in posts for no good reason when you don't know if they're cool with it).
But this isn't really about privacy (or hofo or c_i_c's job prospects), is it? It's more about general levels of courtesy (and not being an attention seeking div who does a little cry when they look back and realise what a first class belm they've been, before pointlessly starting a new account).
You're always gonna get the odd wannabe maverick tryhard exception, but without the ability to delete a whole posting history off of the back of a whimsical request, /most/ users will normally tend to temper their indulgences and general bullshittery a little, in favour of having generally positive (or at least 'genuine') interactions.
Since the whole history deletion thing kicked in, coupled with cat_race's indulgent, um, project(?), it feels like things on here have been regressing towards a tinychat level of navel-gazing night-shift nothingness.
nightshift has never produced anything as bad the combination of factors you mentioned in your last para.
The permabanning and ability to be deleted will make users much more likely to be dicks.
don't compare cat_race to these MONSTERS
all the empathy of a totalitarian dictator
That was one of the best posts I've seen. Well, from you anyway. Well, in the last month or so. That I remember.
Fill me in.
THEO DONE BROUGHT THE PAAAAAAIN
by resurrecting another profile. Spanner alert.
she always straddled the line between unhinged lunatic, and knowing archness. was never sure what the real deal was. the fact that hofo had an obsession with being nasty to her reminded me of Mirri getting aggro from _vikram. and i'm pretty confident picking sides on that one. but seeing Theo's posts upthread took me by surprise and made me wonder if she's the type that indulges in under the radar off-board shenanigans.
oh god I came back here for something serious and three seconds later I'm doing horrific gossip. Someone delete my hands please. Bye.
I indulge in almost no off-board shenanigans and certainly none involving theo or hofo. Any rages that they have been under have been entirely their own doing/creation.
God knows what hofo's issues were (amongst many).
never really took much notice of her in her various guises - so little so that i didn't even know these were all the one person. seems a bit of a dickish thing to do
always wondered what happened to her.
I wish people didn't change their usename all the time - I can't keep track of who I hate anymore.
andyk79 and the returnof... were killed by scrambling the password and then logging out.
But this does raise an interesting point.
As users, we have basically no rights here, as this isn't our site and we agreed to the T&Cs by registering. I'm not even sure if we own our own content.
But if s_g gets herself banned, all her content is deleted. That means if I contribute to a thread she started, my content gets deleted too. Is this accidental censorship? If I add something to a thread, how do I know the OP won't go mental and get banned next week? Posting here would suddenly become a waste of productive time.
This 'scorched earth' deletion policy is really odd is what I'm saying. It's the only site I've seen where banning trolls can fuck with content in a major way, and directly impact other users.
Instead of banning people, the site should disemvowel them. Write a clever script that removes all vowels from the person's posts, so they can get as angry as they want BT NBY CN RD WHT TH FCK THY R N BT unless they try really hard.
This is the best line I have read all day. Thank you.
