Twice, right? And then you just have to pretend you heard what they said even if you didn't.
so you ask them to repeat it like 4 times and then you still can't hear them so you just go 'aaahh yeah' and they go 'you didn't hear what i said, did you?' and you have to admit that you gave up caring
and it turns out they've said their mum's dead.
Once is fine, but the third or fourth time, I can't help but stop them in their tracks and point it out.
when the worst thing is when you ask someone to repeat something because they're talking quietly/its loud and they repeat it at the same volume. the worst people.
i am useless at pretending so it's better to bite the bullet.
on the third time you lean in and squint your eyes a bit
then you get to shout “TWICE!” and slap them in the face
instead of just saying pardon, maybe move your body position and lean in a bit. Then keep doing that after every two. Hopefully the other party will try and reword it instead of just repeating the same thing which will help.
I have quite a few deaf friends, just nodding and pretending you have heard them is what they get quite a lot, and they don't like it. And they always know. It cuts them deep, man.
when someone says a long sentence but you don't quite catch it, ask them to repeat then it twigs in your head just as they start reeling it off again. So you have to listen to their whole spiel again.
