TRANSFER WINDOW SLAMS SHUT THIS WEEK
Will we see Michael Owen retire with dignity?
Thinking about going a bit odd and sitting in front of Sky Sports News all day.
Isn't he, y'know, pretty good?
Like most of the rumours swirling around us since we lost to Swansea it's probably total bollocks
The fact La Marca published it probably means that it isn't.
So close I can almost taste it.
FUCK OFF BARTON
I'm not sure where I see his career going with this big ban hanging over an English club signing him.
If it wasn't for that I'd like to think a 'proper' club like Leeds being a fitting home for him.
Warnock, Paddy Kenny, Ken Bates and Barton in one place. All you'd need to do then is quarantine the whole area...
especially after Warnock's sewer rat comments not that long ago.
Diouf is there too
only £8 for a ticket and sat rate in front of the owners. not bad.
i paid 15 quid for mine.
say hello like.
I'm going to this
they always do cheapo tickets when a game is televised.
I should go to a game sometime, not been to one in years.
Two second half goals in two minutes took the points. Up to 6th. Lovely.
Sacking managers in August is utter, utter insanity.
back training with the pups
proper club, proper fans, proper history
he'd love it
I love his story of being hard done by basically boils down *I lost my squad number and can't train with the first team* I WONDER WHY THAT IS
Maybe it's time for the old man to call it quits and let someone who can handle the pressure take over
Joseph Barton ?@Joey7Barton
Maybe this is time to dumb down and be dishonest. It seems to take you a long way in this game...
but there is something unbearably precious about the entire crowd chanting HOOF! in unison EVERY single time the opposition keeper kicks it out of his area
Slagging off Swansea is only not the done thing because it's passé.
They seemed alright when they were at Anfield last season (they spent a good 15 minutes singing the A-Team theme because Kemy Agustien had a mohawk). I'd hate to see them turn into those scoffing Arsenal fans who shake their heads sadly whenever a team passes the ball more than five yards at once.
I remember watching them do it last season against Fulham, who barely lumped it up all game. But on the odd occasion the ball briedly left the turf...'HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF!'
Can't decide if that's better or worse than Stoke fans approvingly shouting "HUUUUUUUTH!" every time Big Robert thumps the ball and anyone near it into the stand.
They didn't have any 10-15 years ago. They were all supporting Man Utd when Swansea were in the lower leagues. They took about 500 fans to Wembley in '97 for the Div 3 playoff final, pathetic
I can properly rip into this without being told 'shut up cos Leon Britton'
The co-ordinated hissing whenever their players got tackled hard but fairly is also unbelievably aggravating. It's the sound a normal crowd makes when someone's slid in for a studs-up legbreaker, done every time a player is dispossessed.
But, you know, Leon Britton
Completely ignoring that Laudrup has made them a lot more direct which has made them a lot more threatening.
I much prefer the new Swansea to last season't boremongers - they actually look to do something with their possession now
The comparisons to Barcelona really really annoyed me because they weren't actually very similar. Barcelona press the fuck out of the opposition in the final third, and play at a ridiculous tempo with their passing.
Swansea under Rodgers were so so much slower, and they used passing as a defensive rather than offensive method - they kept the ball because they knew it would help them avoid conceding rather than helping them score. So similar to that Simpsons clip it's unreal.
It's going to be very interesting to see what Laudrup can do now.
Barcelona succeed because they force mistakes in dangerous parts of the field, and also conserve their own energy whilst making the oppo tear around chasing shadows.
Swansea last year played like your prick mate who goes 1-0 up on FIFA and start passing it between his CBs to wind you up.
i do kind of hope they get absolutely smashed by some cloggers just so everyone stops talking about them.
that I've just realised, to my disappointment, that I can't sit in front of the TV on Friday to take in all the transfer bollocks because I'm busy. Watching an actual game of football. On holiday.
I sicken me.
I want to make this a better place for all of us. Join me.
where's the commitment
like kit man or something
There's usually a direct correlation between how good they are and how much Jean-Michel Aulas is in the news. He's been around a lot at the moment trying to shift Lloris, so I can only assume things aren't going that well for them.
and winning the Ligue Un every season, sheesh
Dunno how I feel about this. We've been spunking money a bit too much for my liking, though it is obvious we need a centre mid who can tackle.
The source is goal.com though so it is probably lies.
dunno if anyone would punt the sort of money he'd cost for a player who has had so many poor performances recently
As has the Mirror, which has gone with the excellent "Jay Walking" headline.
Not sure it needs to be said, but for that money I'd carry him to the Reebok himself in a Sedan chair.
chubby bald kids = Bobby Hill
£3m on Spearing
When is Coyle gonna learn?
that ITV4 has a Bundesliga these days?
Is that live? Saw something on the TV guide, presumed it was highlights.
the guy doing the voiceover was phoning it in but the action was fine
what are all you virgins going to wet the bed over instead?
Any football on there is wedged between The Sweeney and British Touring Cars. I'd certainly consider ESPN to be more 'mainstream'.
Caught a quick glimpse of his spud head on the back of a paper this morning, and have heard a few United fans slagging him off.
but it's pretty inexcusable for someone who gets paid 6 figures a week.
,Still Fergie's forgiven him for much worse (like that time he sulked and then got rewarded with said 6 figure weekly wage).
1. Matty Phillips to stay put at Blackpool.
2. Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool (for a not astronomical fee)
3. Joe Cole off for a couple of mil
4. Blackpool to bring in Owen. (Absolute fantasy but nevertheless...)
5. Looks like he's staying put anyway, but no last minute insanity over Agger please.
I know it's early in the season like but still. Tom Ince looks like a pILAYER
Kaciniklic (sp?) has looked brilliant for Fulham (where he went as part of the Konchesky deal, cheers Roy) and Ince is tearing up the Championship. If it wasn't for Raheem I'd be borderline suicidal.
from Wembley in May. Looks like we've got a a decent bit of depth in the squad (perhaps a little light up-top.)
Ince has been a breath of fresh air, undoubted talent and flair, he's a quick little bastard too and got a decent head on his shoulders.
I think we can reasonably be looking towards 2/3/4 this season providing we don't lose any of our better players.
Javi Garcia (Benfica) to Man City
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) to Liverpool or Spurs
Charlie Adam (Liverpool) to Everton or Stoke
Gael Kakuta (Chelsea) to Marseille

Moussa Dembélé (Fulham) to Spurs
Jermain Defoe (Spurs) to Fulham
David Bentley (Spurs) to Fulham
Jermaine Jenas (Spurs) to Fulham
Leandro Damiao (Internaciona) to Spurs
Yann M'Vila (Rennes) to Spurs, Newcastle or Everton
Joao Moutinho (POrto) to Spurs
Kieran Richardson (Sunderland) to Fulham
M'Baye Niang (Caen) to Everton, Arsenal or AC Milan
Christian Benteke (Genk) to Aston Villa or Fulham
Aaron Cresswell (Ipswich) to Aston Villa
Kevin Doyle (Wolves) to Aston Villa
Curtis Davies (Birmingham) to Southampton
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier) to Arsenal, Chelsea, Napoli or AC Milan
Angel Rangel (Swansea) to Arsenal
Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) to AC Milan, Celta Vigo, Galatasaray or Juventus
Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City) to Wigan
Rolando (Porto) to QPR or Fenerbahce
Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona) to Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea or Spurs
Daniele de Rossi (AS Roma) to Man City
Matija Nastasic (Fiorentina) to Man City
Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) to Arsenal or Spurs
Cheikh Tiote (Newcastle) to Arsenal

Júlio César (Inter) to QPR
Joe Cole (Liverpool) to West Ham
Alan Dzagoev (CSKA Moscow) to Spurs
Jack Butland (Birmingham) to Spurs
Anderson (Man Utd) to Spurs
Leon Barnett (Norwich) to Sheffield Wednesday
Can see Montpellier asking for a lot more money than Wenger's ready to spend on a squad player though.
Tiote can piss off, especially at £15m+
I don't think we'd let either go less than £10m, probably up to £20m for Tiote even though most Toon fans rate the dreamboat more highly.
Obvious bullshit, but it's funny all the same.
missed opportunity there
4 strikers, 2 goalkeepers and 6 central midfielders before Friday. that would be fun.
no not andy carroll...the guy in the background, behind the hoarding.
WHAT A WANKER.
OI OI OI
headscratchingly strange replica kits you've seen on adults
i saw a MANNONE 24 one on saturday
On the back of a home shirt.
Really wish I was making that up.
Also, a JOE ALLEN 24 on a Liverpool fan. Oddest part of this for me was that I don't think we have any other Allens kicking about...
but Stealthy, formerly of these boards, wears a Rosicky Arsenal top. If you've seen him play football you'll understand why this is funny.
Why she felt she didn't need the space before of I don't know. Maybe it cost more
On a United shirt. LAD.
Bristol City have scored 4 times in back-to-back games for the first time since 2004. How awesome is that?
see we had a big rejected for Benteke today though. Getting quite nervy we won't get anyone, or end up with Kevin Doyle
But he wouldn't be worth the £15m Wolves would inevitably rinse out of you.
but that might be a case of being stagnant at Wolves, I don't know. Realistically though, we propr can't get much better quality. This season's going to be very testing
I also think his game has been hurt by the way McCarthy used him - usually a lone striker, whose job it was to hold the ball up for others to knock in. He looks like he's forgotten how to shoot. But, y'know, if you're looking for someone to fill that Heskey-shaped hole up front, he'd probably be perfect.
(Only there's no way we're letting him go except for stupid money, obviously, so unlikely to happen)
i think the last thing we want is someone to fill Heskey's boots
I know Doyle's got lots of experience, but would have thought Lambert might prefer to gamble on someone like Jordan Rhodes for a third of the price
Huddersfield are pretty financially sound and don't really need to sell any more than Wolves do...
Point being, would Lambert really spend relatively big money on a player with a track record for being ok at this level, rather than take a punt on someone younger/cheaper making the step up?
I don't think we'll win a game until October
Can't see Huddersfield selling Rhodes though. Not yet. They're relatively minted so would ask a silly fee, right?
but last I checked Doyle and Rhodes were competing in the same league.
what happened to Fergie inventing injuries before international duty rolled around?
and get rid of Adam and Cole in the next few days, I'll be amazed.
Would very much like to wrap up Dempsey too.
Really looking forward to next week's game. Arsenal is traditionally the one game I see us dropping points in, but I think we'll get our first win.
I'd really push for a Carroll start though. Borini is too lightweight right now. The fact we've only bagged from set pieces so far isn't a great sign for him.
It's going to be 0-0 with both teams making about 1300 passes each and managing a combined total of 3 shots on target, plus you'll presumably hit the post at some point.
purely down to Suarez.
You've always struggled to handle him and even when you nicked the win last season, he was a thorn in the side all game.
I think decent centre-halves tend to bounce back from disgraceful mistakes as well. With Enrique and Agger returning, I can't see many goals coming from The Arsenal.
Goals created: 3
the only time i recall you scoring three against us, one was a Nani header which went to Kuyt and the other came from Van Der Sar fumbling a free-kick. if that's the game you're referring to i think 2 goals created is a stretch.
you haven't got Kuyt to put them in now, anyway.
(besides, i was talking about 'im scoring)
I have no doubt you'll create chances on the odd occasion either side lets the ball leave midfield.
Hmmm. I actually think Johnson could do well at a club that indulges him and lets him be the big shot, I just think that that club is probably in the Championship.
Very Football Italia.
i dunno how much he'd cost mind, but if tottenham are bidding for him then i kinda hope we're looking at him too.
But for Utd.
Realistically though I don't see where he'd fit. Best form for Fulham's come when playing centre midfield and bursting forward, we've already got Jack, Arteta, Ramsey, Diaby, Rosicky and potentially Ox in that role.
he was looking to sign sahin, after all. He's a very different player obviously, but i actually think dembele would be more suited to fit that sort of role compared to sahin, given the players we already have.
Better than Ramsey (and arguably Diaby) and much younger than Rosicky and Arteta, just seems very un-Arsene to buy someone in while that area's already well stocked.
Think he'd be silly to join Spurs anyway, another good season at Fulham and he'll have much better offers.
and probably only vaguely comparable to one of them. The one who hasn't played for over a year.
Dembele is fucking class. If someone is signing him this week, he'll be one of this window's biggest coups imo.
This is a man who's reluctant to buy another forward even though 4 of our current ones are shit and for sale, can't imagine him buying more midfielders when he actually rates the ones we have.
I kinda wish Chelsea were in a position to sign Dembele, but I shouldn't be greedy. Fantastic with the ball, atheltic enough to play a constant pressing game and probably the best tackler in the Premier League. I think he'd make a pretty good Modric replacement at Spurs, or vastly improve United's chances.
i dunno much about him and tbh he didnt look that great the few times i've seen him, but i imagine as a stopgap whilst we search for a real quality winger that we can buy on the cheap he'd be the best we could get. In terms of strikers, we tried to get mirallas, and are apparently still trying for m'baye niang. Dunno what we'll do if we don't get him, use theo as third striker maybe.
Anyway, genuinely think we are in the market for that sorta player though. Dembele player i mean. FINGERS CROSSED.
tell me what game it was and your experiences ta
first was ok, second very very good. great atmosphere, as much on the way to the stadium as in the ground itself.
Christian Eriksen looked fantastic and nabbed a goal, Ebicilio got a brace it was good as it was in the title run-in and PSV lost at the same time so the atmosphere was great as news of each goal they conceded came in. Stadium is good but a bit soulless. Only paid €14 as it was restricted view but could see pretty much everything. Bargain.
Club Brugge 3 - 1 Germinal Beerschot (A fortnight ago)
Pretty run down old stadium, a new one is being built apparently. Got the feeling that Brugge were in a bad run of form as their fans were very on edge. They're one of those You'll Never Walk Alone clubs which was pretty nauseating. Decent game if pretty low quality. Jonathan Blondel scored the winner. The Beershcot striker Coulibaly might be the worst professional footballer I have ever seen in the flesh. Truly appalling.
Dispelling the myth that Bundesliga tickets are a bargain. 50 euros for a seat in the upper tier. It was freezing cold, so we had mulled wine before kick-off. Bayern played FC Köln and won very easily, even though they were down to 10 man after Franck Ribéry was sent off in the first half for slapping an opposition player.
if you went to say, Champions Dortmund, it would be like 20-25 euros
For Borussia's next home game (vs Bayer Leverkussen) seat prices range rom 29 euros to 69 euros. A seat similar to the one I had at Bayern Munich would set you back 41 euros. Cheaper, but not cheap.
It was cold and wet.
literally the most boring game i have ever watched. david beckham got a standing ovation for getting sent off with 2 minutes to go.
Zlatan had a stinker and was jeered until he was subbed off. Messi scored one beauty and had a mazy run to set up Xavi for the second.
Back in about 2002/2003. It was crazy. I sat underneath the Atletico fans and got a peanut thrown at my head from the top tier of the Bernabeau, which fucking hurt.
It was a 2-2 draw. Figo scored twice for Real, Zidane was awesome, and I got to see Torres play when he was about 18.
This nutter was in goal for Atletico:
The fans were fucking animals as it is a derby. Fiorentina won 5-1. Totti looked very fat when he came on.
went to 3 german games in 3 days
stuttgart - great stadium, in with the ultras, fucking mental. stuttgart lost, saw demba ba score even though he had a shit game
schalke - sat down, watched something like a 6 goal thriller, raul scored a peach
bochum - 2nd division, proper football, last minute home winner, crowd went bananas.
Take that in a flash. There'd be no bitter feelings as he inevitably finds the consistency that's eluded him all these years as he'd be out o' sight out o' mind in Russia, and it's enough money to buy someone actually... y'know... good.
Won't happen, but in theory that's a pretty sweet deal.
for 25 mill.
The chap's brilliant.
But how often does he play to that standard?
Wouldn't sell him to a team in one of the big boy leagues, as he'd clearly find that elusive form and be a £25m snip, but if he fucks off to Russia, I'm none the wiser.
On the other hand, we'd be left with Ashley Young with a guaranteed place in the starting line up *shudder*
much better ratio of good/bad games than Young anyway.
Young plain and simply doesn't have the ability to play like Nani at his best. I wouldn't mark him down as particularly inconsistent, excepting the odd anomalistically excellent performance.
I think I'm just pissed off about how shit he played against Everton tbh, I'll get over it pretty quickly.
Scholes was far worse anyway.
And a slight tail-off last, Nani has been ridiculously important to United for at least the last two seasons. To say he's inconsistent any more is just not true. Even if he can frustrate for periods during a game, he generally then pops up with a goal very few others on the team could score. The stats don't lie. His overall workrate and defensive play has improved a lot too. Plus, he has the ability to excite like few other players from time to time and football is [whisper it] entertainment at the end of the day.
I'd play him on the left, all the time. Young can do one.
Don't think we should be selling him unless he's gonna be an arsehole about a new deal or anything.
As frustrating as he is and as big a fanny as he acts on the pitch there's no denying that on his day he's a fantastic player and his stats over the last few years prove that we're pretty reliant on him for creativity (less so now with Kagawa fingers crossed.)
I love Tony V as much as the next man but when he has an off day he's equally as ineffective as Nani is just not in such a *showy* way.
He's never gonna be a fan favourite but I can't really see the point in selling him if we don't need to.
Honestly, I'm a big fan of Nani, but unless he cuts his wage demands (reportedly 130k a week, innit?), and finds that consistency, then £25m to a nothing league isn't a bad deal.
Idk, maybe I'm just having a grumpy day... 3 good games and I'll be banging on about how he's world class again to anyone who'll listen.
Feel a bit cheated if he encourages Zenit to give United shitloads of money. Georgi :'(
But he's also said he doesn't think it's likely to go ahead until January.
But United seem to be short of top players as it is and when he's on Nani can be that player.
it's more of Chelsea/Wigan thing
By a Wigan supporting mate. We've seen a car with 4 other Wigan fans in so there will be at least 6 of us in the away end. Not many more I'm guessing. Still, only £12 ticket and I'll be able to cross another ground off the list. Wigan have lost every time I've been on one of their away days, about 6 in total, majority have been against lower league opposition. 3-1 Forest.
if you're looking for somewhere to drink, anywhere bar Southbank is fine. The Embankment is pretty nice.
Thanks for the recommendations but there's only me and my mate and he's driving so I don't wanna be dragging him around pubs. I'll end up having a few over-priced, lukewarm pints in the ground.
or was that a loan?
Doubt that'll be the case come Friday- no place for him in the squad, in a literal registration sense.
berbatov barton carroll toure de jong adam bendtner dawson gomes benayoun malouda
that's a few million in wages being spunked up the wall each month
there's an alright team in there
just realised it was on and wondering if its worth sticking with.
Seems a bit flat for a Champions League second leg that only has one goal in it.
upset on the cards
I believe it is this monstrosity: https://twitpic.com/show/iphone/amumhr
We're gonna look like fucking Grimsby
it looks like someone took Liverpool's wetsuit and made it worse
Is it just a rule that all 3rd kits have to be utterly shit? Like, the clubs and manufacturers know it's wrong to release three kits every year but are obliged to so just make them as unpalatable as possible so people don't spunk £70 on them?
in whatever colour they throw a dart into on the colour chart :'(
extending our unbeaten run since beating united on february 26th.
3 blooters and a nicely taken goal to round it off
Shame 4 of the 5 goals were at the other end of the pitch though, I could hardly see them. The Wigan fans seen to really rate Mcmanaman, don't they. I can see why after that goal.
Fuck you Burnley.
so to Liverpool or City presumably.
Is he worth any more than that really? least consistent player but occasional game changer.
It makes me realise how lucky we are to have Nani after all.
So yeah, in conclusion our lad Nani gets a whopping 16.4 goals & assists a season, whereas Walcott gets a crummy 13.
Almost spot on. I wouldn't necessarily say Nani is overrated (his ability is often lauded, but at the same time his inconsistency is somewhat over exaggerated) but Walcott is almost certainly underrated in comparison. Still not sure he'd be a great signing for City though (if that's even remotely on the cards).
It's actually a tired misphrasing, but it looks like a whopping contradiction.
I meant that his ability is often lauded, but his inconsistency is well documented too, hence he's not really *that* highly rated/overrated.
The sentence I posted originally doesn't really make much sense.
I kind of agree with what you're getting at with your reply to MrConsistency (as far as Nani is concerned anyway).
Thought I'd better get a preemptive strike in before MrC had a field day.
I was being a bit harsh on Nani earlier, but he really gets on my tits when he plays like he did against Everton.
Honestly, after some reflection, by leaving him out the squad SAF was probably just 1. Stating he wasn't willing to accept that kind of a performance and 2. Using scare tactics to drive down Nani's wage demands.
Guess we'll wait and see.
what a twat.
Really hope we've got someone lined up. Would realistically be happy selling him for 15mil but i reckon we could get more out of city if they go for him. Really hope we sell to city, not liverpool, otherwise they'd be in danger of challenging for the champions league i think.
Not heard anything about a right winger coming in though all season. We'd need Afelaay in addition to anyone else we bring in. Maybe we could get an attacking mid and move cazorla out wide idk AMs seem to be more abundant these days than wingers.
than end up warming City's bench.
Not impressed by Liverpool's continuing attempt to buy 4th place. With the yanks pumping in money you can't even hold out for them doing a Leeds at the moment.
Theo or no Theo.
Hope it's not at the expense of M'Vila, mind.
fucking hell i'd be so excited if we sign him
but plenty of reliable people saying it on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/search/dembele
Premier League sides Stoke, Bolton and Fulham are knocked out the League Cup by lower league opposition.
I hope Coyle leaves. the man is a fuvking idiot.
06 Cattermole Booked (Meyler - 78' )
23 McClean Booked (Campbell - 73' )
26 Fletcher (Saha - 66' )
Colback has been playing left back recently, innit. Cattermole centre-back and O'Shea right back i'd guess. funtimes
