help me pick what Manchester gigs to go to in the next 3 months?
All of these (generally DiS-friendly) people are playing Manchester some time between now and December. Most I've never seen live before but to see them all would cost about 400 notes so help me pick the ones which will be worth splurging my student loan on, yeah?
Who's good live, who's bad? Any bargains? Is the Ruby Lounge always shit for gigs or was it just my fateful night to see Mumford & Sons which tainted it for me? etc etc
Feel free to suggest other good things coming up too, these are just my last.fm recommendations.
Or alternatively, ignore this and I'll at least have it bookmarked so I don't miss loads of them as I tend to do.

the WHP's are definite I think...
apart from AnCo. I work there so can hear the main stage the whole time anyway, but need to be in a suitable frame of mind for FlyLo etc.
Egyptian Hip Hop WERE pretty good.
I heard that they recorded their album but then had it binned by their label though, so I assume that they will sound completely different now.
The Walkmen.
Jetpacks are pretty good live.
Youre more or less guaranteed a good show from the Maccabees, but thirty sheets? Nah.
never seen black keys, though I guess they'll play mainly new ones.
These are the missus' faves though so this will prob happen. Not been to M.E.N since Green Day '05 I don't think!
defo do wwpj
eighties matchbox
club academy - Mon 29 Oct
torche
that's going to be amazing
OMG
can you do this more often please? Gonna buy ticket for balam acab right this second. Dunno how good it'll be live but I LOVE BALAM ACAB
I was amazed how many gigs there are in October...
is he good live?
no idea
worth a punt.
will prob do an errors/acab double header then.
It's not called ROCKtober for nothing...
(actually it's because lots of gigs are scheduled for October/November after the festivals and to coincide with students returning to university cities at their most flush.)
clearly, it works.
I like the look of the AUN/ThisQuietArmy/Petrels gig,
and the Richard Youngs and Josephine Foster ones as well:
http://www.buriedbones.co.uk/
like the sound of the former at Kraak
it's my housemate's birthday that night, will link him and add it to the list.
i saw tpobpah when they were touring their first record and didn't think much of them even though i loved the album
grizzly bear were ace when i seen them but that was maybe to do with them being in the cathedral
are black keys big enough to play the arena now? that passed me by. i dislike gigs at the arena and am not a massive fan of tbk so i'd miss that one off but maybe you really like them
there are still tickets for jens lekman at ruby lounge left, i'd suggest that.
but probably just whatever you like, like
jens lekman's a great shout.
only recently got into him. and yeah, there are a few on here I will definitely go to but there's loads of bands who are vyeing for my precious taxpayers money...
Negative Approach
w/ Punch and Voorhees
16th Oct star and garter
I'm going to try and come up for that as it's the only one Voorhees are playing
converge
between the buried and me
...trail of dead

Swans
Dirty Three
Radiohead
I think I might go and see Errors
So, Errors
think errors
ok
would be good at soup kitchen
I love Soup Kitchen
Plank was the first and only time I've been but it's an amazing space
it was the second time i went but the other was i played a gig upstairs and it was SHIT
i can't imagine that would be any good
i can't EVEN imagine it
oh yeah swans is my birthday night out. everyone go to that. it'll be your last
chance to do that whole "31 years old..." schtick that you love so movu"

i have heard a lot about them and i think i would probably like them but idk

i don't know i've never listened to them
not bothered about music really
their new album is fantastic...
but haven't really listened to much else.
Cop
it's basically their pop punk effort.
the Swans gig is going to be mint

A Carefully Planned Festival #2
October 20-21.
oh yeah
that
Japandroids booked...
El-P, Swans, Jetpacks, Grizzly Bear and Immortal Technique to follow I reckon.
Has anyone here seen Liars since WIXIW? I love their first couple albums, but didn't really get Sisterworld and though the new one is lovely not sure how it'll work live.
The WIXIW show in the Ruby Lounge was fucking brilliant.
Very little of S/T and Sisterworld with everything played as a 3 piece. Best of the 4 times I've seen them.
Erm.
A Carefully Planned Festival #2?
awesome.
much prefer sound control to ruby lounge as well. good couple of months ahead, especially now I've blagged guestlists to WHP too
Both good venues to be fair soundwise.
fair play not been for ages, just like the roof space at SC
Turbowolf
15th October
Manchester Roadhouse
Thank you OP
for bringing the El-P show to my attention
see you there
obvs modeselektor WHP
Chris Leibling, Marcel Dettmann, Scuba, Joy O, Levon Vincent, Zomby, Blawan, Shackleton. That's a pretty unfuckwithable list
if you like techno & darker strains of electronic music that is
if you don't then go see animl collective
that one, the FlyLo/Squarepusher and SBTRKT nights
are the 3 I am going to take off and go to. Hopefully hear some other decent stuff across the season. It is pretty fuckin hot and heavy in the new venue...
that SBTRKT night, for anyone who hasn't seen
has Four Tet, TNGHT, Hoya:Hoya, Rustie, Lone, Pariah, Oneman plus Caribou and (very probably) Thom are playing after the Radiohead gig at MEN.
BUMP
anyone going to El-P on monday?
Pretty sure student finance have fucked up my loan so hoping my OD gets extended between now and then otherwise I'll be missing out.
Can't believe no-one's said Soulwaxmas
That's going to be great, go to that.
was announced just after id put this list together off last.fm
will definitely be there, saw slwxms at academy 2 years ago (maybe 3)...blew me away
