Don't get all up tight about how much you earn.
if you're talking zlotych, then I'm a 50k kinda guy (which is about 10k)
like working for a record label or on a film set? Then it's mega worth it.
Hence my apathy.
I'm in the wrong game.
He's in the army isn't he?
You can earn both categories. I demand clarity.
and I also love how everyone thinks i'm chris is cool. Priceless bit of distory there.
But you'd have to earn A LOT or be a very very shrewd investor with immense powers of foresight over how the next 30 years or so are going to play out(I don't think there are many of these around)
oops, not ^this - touchscreen error
What if I earn 25k or 30k. Which option do I select on your survey, eh?
make yo'self look good innit
Free eye tests and £100 towards glasses is probably the best one.
Are legal requirements.
But I'll change my answer to "money off TM Lewin shirts" anyway. It would be Costco membership but the nearest one's in Milton Keynes.
not jsa, but other stuff.
Who gives a fuck. Transparency is what it's all about.
I earn less than about half my friends. Some of my mates literally swim in cash. Some don't even have jobs. I don't think it matters.
If people earn loads I normally think they're more likely to be a twat. You unfortunately gotta be a bit of a twat to earn loads (most of the time).
I earn much less than most of my friends from University that I'm still in touch with. But I earn more than many. To earn much more, I'd have to work much longer hours than I do currently - I have absolutely no desire to do that at all. More than happy with my WORK LIFE BALANCE as it is.
when it wasn't.
For my age (I guess this is the crucial factor) I don't earn a great deal. I think we're similar in age, wage and job (EXCEL FOR THE LOSE) so high five on that one.
But yeah, fuck working hard. I've got some mates who move to obscure places and commute for hours to do high earning jobs. What's the point? Remember "career" is *the* c-word.
It was a joke how much they were paying for the relatively minimal amount of work they wanted delivered in return.
...just highlights how scandalously little architects get paid, in relation to the importance/difficulty of their job. Always amazes me.
To be fair though, I've not had a pay rise for five years and took a pay cut of 5% four years ago (it was a collective decision, to prevent redundancies - we now employ only a third of the numbers we used to :/ ). If I was working for another company I might be earning more, but I'm not too far off the average for someone of my age and experience. Architects pay has almost certainly been the profession most affected by the recession too.
Got shafted post recession. One of 'em had to take a 15% paycut just as she'd put a deposit down on a flat. Bit unfortunate...
But, yeah, I still maintain that you're all notably underpaid. But then again you never meet an architect who hates his or her job really so... swings and roundabouts, I guess.

They played at my college's May Ball one year, and there were quite a lot of people in white tie bemused at the idea of a £22k grand job in the City being alright by anyone's standards.
lad i know's graduate salary for a consultancy in the city was something like 45 grand. ridiculous.
With things expected to rise quickly after a couple of year's on the job training. Scary to think how different our circumstances now are, and why they suggest going to Hawksmoor while I suggest Wetherspoons.
My married friends, both consultants, just bought a stunning new build 2 bed flat in Greenwich. Don't reckon I'd be able to do that in a decade.
to an extent I kind of envy my flatmate. Job involves him travelling around the world with [INSERT BIG 4 COMPANY HERE], telling people what to do, earning near 40k and pretty much nailed on to be earning 50k+ next year at the age of 25.
But then, you know, I look my cold pot noodle and library of porn and think, well, things aren't so bad.
(but srs wouldn't be able to do any of those jobs. Would properly turn into some Falling Down shit)
But then I think, well, I'm as smart as my mates, we have similar dispositions, I'd like that money - could I have done it? They didn't appeal to me at the time because I have grand ideas of writing for a living, but I'm still on a treadmill of sorts, even if it is one I find comfortable.
I don't know. I'm lucky that my mates generally don't flaunt it and expose the differences in our circumstances, but there are occasions where it gets a bit awkward.
went out with them regularly. Wanted to punch his and his colleagues' faces in for most of the time. Had to go to clubs like Kensington Roof gardens. And Infernos. Awful.
Hey we're still young, skilful and attractive to employers. Just cos someone starts the race faster doesn't mean they finish it quicker. It gets awkward sometimes when my flatmate tries to pay for my stuff but like I say, it's not like we are stuck earning 20-25 forever. Down the line we will be reet. Hey let's just set a magazine up and become millionaires
Coped just fine :)
we're talking about JOBS in the CITY.
I'll still have a job.
I'm more than happy with the £35K as long as I have a stable job for a few years.
But last year i paid £126,464 tax, which obviously i'm not that happy with.
you've been asked to reveal. It's not like you're lighting cigars with £50 notes and driving around in a golden Bentley.
...my accountant if I paid that much tax, regardless of my wage.
after tax and NI and student loan?
Because its seriously depressing how little extra you get from a few thousand pound pay increase, sometimes i think you'd be better off to take less reponsibility and earn a couple of hundred quid doing something in your spare time...guitar lesson anyone?
Not worth it.
And a few thousand pound per year payrise is worth it - An extra £120-£150 or so a month isn't anything to be scoffed at.
those of you in London, what bracket would your pay fall into if you weren't in London, do you think?
no idea how much though
