band spam

cat_race [Edit] [Delete] 71 replies 12:40, 16 August '12

at the moment in manchester there are stickers EVERYWHERE for an unsigned band. they are all over lampposts and traffic lights everywhere from the city centre, down to chorlton, withington, just everywhere. i will not name the band because i refuse to put their name out there any more but people in manchester will more than likely have seen them multiple times. white font on a black sticker.

it is a bad thing. my friend sent them a message on facebook to tell them so and they just replied "well we have been on bbc radio liverpool so it must work" which i think is hilarious.

if you are in a band, don't put stickers everywhere.

i am a little bit curious though, if i named them, would they appear, they will almost definitely be the sort of band that would google themselves regularly

    • like i said, i just can't name it

but keep your eyes out on lamposts and traffic lights. white font on a black rectangular sticker. you'll see one before the day is over if you are out and about at all

  • Willow?

The only stickers i see regularly around Manchester are ones with 'Willow' on, or pro-Malcolm Glazer ones.

  • I feel a bit sorry for people in bands that are trying to make it big

Imagine being so desperate to get some recognition and the only way in you can find is to stick stickers around town.

    Elaina_Casoolare | 16 Aug '12, 12:44 | X
    • sort of fair enough if a band really really wants to get big

but the stickers? jesus/. and these guys have taken it to such a ridiculous extreme. bit tempted to put in a complaint. they should have to clean them all off. that would make me lol A LOT

      cat_race @Elaina_Casoolare | 16 Aug '12, 12:46 | X
      • To be fair, for a local band this isn't a bad marketing strategy.

Think of all the nameless bands you see on gig posters, the one that will stick out now is the one that has been pumped into your subconscious brain. Getting noticed is half the war.

        • everyone i have spoken to so far though has been like

fucking dickheads. think i'd rather spend my energy writing music than riding my bmx round town putting stickers on poles

          • I work in marketing so...I'm kind of evil.

Essentially though, it's not to far off Daily Mail trolling.

            • except they get advertising revenue from website traffic

and this band will never amount to anything

          cat_race @deadonthestairs | 16 Aug '12, 13:09 | X
          • Yeah they're fucking everywhere

The worst thing is there's like four on each lamppost. Fuck off. It must have cost them a fucking packet to get that many printed as well, between them they must know someone who could have designed them a decent sticker. Shit me.

But yeah, they would definitely have google alerts set up so we should give them loads of grief here for a bit and then name them so they can come and stick up for themselves and get DESTROYED by the DIS KILLING MACHINE

  • I remember Maidstone used to be covered in spam for a band called One Day Elliott

There were stickers on pretty much every lampost and bench in town. I guess it works to get your name out there as this was about ten years ago now and I still remember them.

  • There are fucking Hare Krishna stickers on the 'wait' bits

of a bunch of the traffic lights in my town. Means you can't tell if someone's already pressed the button and have to go over and press it just in case and look like a dick. Worst thing is the stickers are all like "smile and be happy and do nice stuff" but they make me want to do the exact opposite (frown/be sad/do nasty things).

  • What's the name of the guy in London that has stickers/graffiti *everywhere*?

It's even scrawled on loads of cash machines and stuff. I think his slogan might be 'more than music', but can't remember. He was really prevalent a 2-3 years back, but seems to have quietened down now.

  • reminds me of seeing graffiti for the band 'The Maybes' sprayed in various places across Liverpool a few years ago, more recently Bicycle Thieves iirc, one such piece of graffiti is misspelled 'Bicyle Thieves' which is pretty woeful.

Don't mind the graffiti too much as it was pretty sporadic and unintrusive, example: http://www.liverpoolmusic.com/the-maybes/

it seems really idiotic to go way over the top, people are just going to resent it rather than support the cause/band or decide to check it out for themselves. If people were to complain to the council would there be grounds to make the band take them down or even pay for removal?

Noticed more and more of them around Manchester after WU LFY splattered stickers all over the Northern Quarter.

One step up from writing your band name on the bog walls I guess.
