I recently emailed Quietus about a possible internship, to which John Doran responded saying no as their magazine was for "old guys". I replied saying I was into older music as well such as the stones, Beatles, Kinks etc. This was his response:

"we don't cover shit like the Beatles, The Kinks and the Stones, we don't in fact, cover any music from before the mid 70s. You want some advice? Pay more attention to your writing and get that in order first, question yourself closely as to what your motivations are and don't bullshit people, if they have anything about them they'll be able to tell you're lying from a distance, like I just did."

The Stones and Kinks were going in the 70s. And they do cover some classic rock: i've seen articles on guns 'n roses and an article about the Kinks' Village Green Pres album....... He also went on to say that I was sexist as I mentioned a girl was attractive in one of my reviews, and said because i'd done that I would potentially be racist (I don't understand that bit either).

Anyone else think he over-reacted slightly......? I was simply enquiring about an unpaid internship. As he always seems to go on about how busy he is, surely he's got better things to do than write a total of 600 words berating me.
