Wolves have rejected an offer in excess of £12m (TWELVE MILLION POUNDS) for Steven Fletcher by Sunderland.
£8-9m is probably about right, but he should be perfect for an O'Neill team (ie works quite hard, good at heading).
No idea what Wolves' finances are like, but if they dont desperately need to cut the wage bill and he's not near the end of his contract then the only real imperative to sell is that the player's #headsgone.
Either way, O'Neill overpaying for average British player is hardly a massive surprise is it?
if you were going to spend £15m on a player it isn't likely to be on one at a club who've just failed to deliver
All our players had wage cut clauses in their contracts for relegation, we ran at a profit for our three years in the PL, we have no debt. Our squad is actually stronger after recent signings than it was last season.
Fletcher and Jarvis may want to to go but they both have three years left on their contracts and unless teams want to bid absurdly high amounts for them then we don't have to sell them at all.
We paid £7m for him. He's a lot better now, but he's still young, he's British, he's been scoring roughly 1-in-2 for us over the past couple of seasons even with shocking service.
Bearing in mind Sunderland paid £8m for Connor ruddy Wickham I think £12m is definitely a fair price.
unless we give them Berbatov and ship Hernandez off there on loan for a season. As it is Rooney, Wellbeck, Hernandez, Kagawa and Young are fine for the two attacking places. Yes RVP is better than 4 of them but going for another striker when the LB cover is so weak and CM standard is so poor is ludicrous.
He's just had a medical.
WHY ARE WE SIGNING SO MANY STRIKERS!? WHY AREN'T WE SIGNING ANY MIDFIELDERS!? WHY DO WE ONLY HAVE ONE LEFT BACK!?
i think fergie is banking on Evra never being injured. i've heard some dark rumours that Rafael is considered an option for the LB position, and also Robbie Brady (who looks very solid but its obviously a massive step up).
still, its madness
We always do some bonkers thing like this with one of our kids in pre-season. I remember Cleverley looking a revelation as a flying left winger a few years ago.
and a pretty average one at that. I watched him very week last season.
I thought he was supposed to have done quite well last year? He's another one that will probably settle down and find his level in the Championship eventually but I thought he'd shown some promise?
Will Amos be your number one next season?
big on stepovers, pacey, but lacking in end product. I can't see purple nose lending us Amos without some kind of reassurance that he would get games, so yeah I think he will be number one. We wouldn't want to piss fergie off as we like taking your loanees and cast offs. We have 5 in the first choice XI at the moment with rumours of us taking Josh King back again this season too.
so he has a flat hairline.
That is mental.
as our first-choice midfield :(((((((
it will probably be something a lot more radical with AVB at the helm anyway.
and I can't see that changing any time soon. Which is ridiculous, really - he's under contract, and if he's fit, he should play. Don't see what anyone has to gain from him remaining in exile.
so shut up.

I know he's highly rated, but not that highly rated...
Now that Leighton Baines isn't coming from Everton
Not as good as the Lampard to Man Utd rumours of last season, but I'll take what I can get.
although having them turn up with no strikers on the first day of the season might ease my nerves about our midfield not being fit to play yet.
Our midfield isn't in a much better state, don't worry.
he's played in the Champions League at half the clubs he's played for, quality lad.
no-class (though he doesn't seem to post under his normal name anymore so maybe it's just a regular account)
You can fuck off.
oh i miss that one :(
I get it now.
POCKETMOUSE TO THREAD.
quite fast, actually a bit bobbins.
I was excited at "Arsenal winger" then read he was at Bolton last year. Great. -.-
(i know the answer btw, it's just annoying.
+ Darren Fletcher is back
- ''like a new signing''
Fuck sake fuck off Bebe, aaarghhh.
but i'm half worried that Fergie might draft in Blackmore for the Everton game
he's with the national team atm thus missing the match this evening. Heard he made a bit of an error in the last friendly or something.
But then again De Gea isn't entirely unknown to make a blunder now and then.
I think that this will be the season De Gea solidifies himself in the starting line up, and hope so, as if he doesn't then we'll probably find we've wasted £20m on him. So basically, as good as he was for us last season, I can't see him playing apart from cup games/injury.
Short of De Gea getting injured or really cocking things up (which I hope he doesn't, and in any event he looked a lot better towards the end of the season) I can't see Lindegaard featuring that much.
Could this be the first win of 2012?!?!
That chant will practically write itself...
3-0 down at half-time, then Derby scored a minute after they pulled one back... they managed to get it to 4-3, until Derby appeared to kill the game off with a fifth in the 83rd minute. Cue two last minute Scunthorpe goals.... 5-5
we play derby on saturday so hopefully they'll be shattered by their choke
after a tremendous Euro's performance. Now he's trying to get out. Won't be on the Denmark first team if he's not playing regularly. But it is a bit baffling, he was outstanding particularly against Holland.
Portsmouths team today consisted of 9 outfield players under 18. The first team coach who went off injured after 35 minutes leaving the whole outfield under 18, and an non-contract goalkeeper who is on trial. Plus three out of seven subs.
