Daily Olympic Thread Day 11 (Tuesday 7th August)
Today we could equal the number of golds were got at Beijing. Remember day two or three where the sceptics\idiots thought it was a failed games for Britain so so prematurely.
What will you be attending or watching today? Last week I managed to bag a ticket for this morning's 3m springboard semi final. I've not been to The Aquatics Centre and am really looking forward to it. Even at this early hour, it looks to be a nice sunny day in London. I hope I haven't now jinxed it. Whatever you're up to, HAVE FUN, AND SMILE! The games are over within a week, enjoy and make the most of it.

Absolutely shattered by all these late nights and early starts.
Went to the stadium last night and had a great time, the reception Bolt got for the presentation was incredible. Not sure what Hugh Dennis was doing there though.

Yeah. I was there last night too. Great night. A interview with Hugh
Dennis before the session started was a bit random as was the lure of another post session interview to prevent a crowd at the end. We left after the pole vault finished. Brilliantly organized and got home without any problems. I know what you mean about these late night, early mornings. I'm at the Olympic Park for my diving session already. As usual, everyone seems in a great mood. I've a lot of events during the games and will certainly look back at these two weeks with a lot of happiness despite the lack of sleep. (I've been boozing far less too.) Anyway, enjoy the hockey. I've an 8:30am session of hockey on Friday.

Trying to work out what the mood is, have the feeling there's going to be a mass exodus at 11 for a three hour lunch break. Can't really miss it when it's such a one-off.

Laura Trott also has her second day of the Omnium. She's very good at 2 events but tends to struggle at the Scratch event, so suspect her medal chances lie with that race.
But joint first at the moment with 3 to go.
And as usual, no coverage of her ridiculous achievements (though I do appreciate Hoy and Pendleton bowing out of the Olympics are the bigger tales of the day)...

The slightly sad thing was
that a huge bunch of people had left already. As it was essentially a test event, you had to get shuttle buses back to Stratford and after Hoy and Pendleton had just won 2 races before, a load of folks left. But even 2/3s full, it was deafening in there. Can only imagine what it'll be like today.
Bodes well for future events in there too. With Rio 4 years away and on the other side of the world, track cycling will likely use the London Velodrome for a good few years I'd wager.

Not sure that Reading velodrome's going to have quite the same magic, but gonna drop by there sometime, see what it's like.

it was a way of taking away a few men's events by combining the bunch races
so as to accomodate three extra women's events. i like it all together, i think Hansen's gutsy performance won me over.
I like that the Keirin was invented by Japanese bookmakers to create an event with more stuff to bet on
Watching the Olympics has convinced me
that if I start training now, I'll be able to win an event at the commonwealth games in 2014. Probably in some kind of cycling event.

The badminton players lost deliberately - he engineered a restart in order to get a better start the next time. The difference is one was cheating to lose and the other was cheating to win.
Certainly both break the spirit of the games though and, if he hasn't broken the rules (which do permit a restart if a rider falls from their bike) it's only because the rules weren't clearly enough worded to state people can't do this on purpose.

Even though Pendleton is World Champion, she won it on a DQ

And got 'No Tickets Available' at the end every time. Sometimes just buying them for the sake of it. Sure if I had been less picky about the event, or willing to splash the cash, I'd have got something but I really haven't had much luck at all.
think a big quantity of the tickets for sale are corporate
and olympic associations handed back, none of them are the cheaper tickets. any cheaper tickets up for sale might be from individuals handing them back so will be very difficult to buy, because there's so few.
Took me about five days, trying every day, to buy tickets to the men's football QF.
It was supposedly sold out, but there were still quite a few empty seats. I think it's the fact that it's so frustratingly challenging to buy tickets even though there are visible empty seats that's the worse.
There was talk of implementing a system where corporate seats that were empty 30 minutes into an event were opened up to the public. But it seems that's never materialised.
