I have no idea what to watch today, guide me!
then think the 10m diving is on later as is the swimming. But I need to get put on my bike for a biggish ride so will not be glued to the tv.
always badminton. If possible try and watch Lin Dan. He's a god.
I'll be trying to covertly watch all day instead.
by accident, had no idea that's what I was doing at the time
and that's when the majority of the athletics and cycling is. YESSSSS.
this week is going to be quite annoying (despite going to events on Tues, Thurs & Fri evenings!)
, beach volleyball on Thursday and the morning session of athletics on Friday.
Tues - Football
Thurs - Boxing
Fri - Beach Volleyball
Sun - Fencing
Mon - Athletics
Tues - Hockey
Weds - Taekwondo, Handball, Basketball
Thurs - BMX, Taekwondo
Fri - BMX
Sat - Race Walk
Saturday - Beach Volleyball
Sunday - Hockey
Today - Volleyball
Tomorrow - Archey and Volletball
Wednesday - Football
Thurday - Beach Volleyball
Friday - Athletics am and pm sessions
Saturday - Badminton
Monday - Athletics pm
Wednesday - Athletics am
Friday - Hockey
Last night was great fun. The pitch looked great as the sun went down and the atmosphere was lovely when the floodlights were on. Shame so many had to go home early for work purposes I presume.
GB v Spain
NZ v Germany
I booked these two weeks off a year ago. Makes a change as I beat all those with kids who usually get in there for babysitting purposes.
Absolutely bloody sucks being at work now. Really enjoyed the archery yesterday and the canoe slalom and the badminton. The women's Korean archery team <3
When do the track and field events start then?
her attempt to win the Heptathlon on Friday morning.
Went to see it at ExCel yesterday and it was superb, and to see an OR (and equalling WR) from the eventual gold winner in Group B was amazing stuff.
it was RIDICULOUS.
would have been incredible if he'd have put another kg on and got a WR
although it does look like more of a laugh than a sport. also i'm pretty sure from watching USA v Japan last night that you just need to get 2 massive people on the same team and you would dominate. that 6'7" lad was murdering them.
Also Zara Dempsey? *swoon*
just because of those bikini things doesnt make them attractive. have you tried actually looking at them properly?
the others: not so much
The swimming has provided a few highlights (Adlington, Tancock, the 16 year old Chinese WR breaker, the 15 year old Lithuanian, the French 4x100 relay).
The road cycling was good as well (the womens anyway). I had no idea it was so tactical and all about strategy.
Enjoyed the archer (the Italians winner with the last arrow), the badminton (despite the Gb mixed doubles losing) Beach Volleyball (Dampney and Baby Spice) and the handball.
It's great just watching sports that I don't watch normally. I've hardly seen any of the football and don't really intend to.
the other 5 and a half hours less so.
i felt a bit bad for the warning flag waving person
It's a shame that there's automatically scepticism surrounding something like that. She probably trains harder than most people could comprehend, which I personally think would be an awful way to live, but she's done something better than anyone else (or any other woman) has ever done it. Reckon she's got more than a good chance of winning the 200m too.
Don't plan out loads of stuff to watch, apart from one or two 'must see' events, just turn on the telly, press the red button and see what takes your fancy (er...just like a festival! Anyway...)
The fact she wore a silly hat made it even better.
Now I'm stuck at work with a block on the BBC website videos and remembering that, much like the European Championships and World Cup, it's incredibly annoying having all this fucking sport on whilst I'm not near a telly.
Going to get some Paralypmic tickets today I reckon seeing as my last slim hope of going to the Fencing for under £100 has gone.
- I finally sort of vaguely understand cycling, which is nice
- The dog in the cycling was good, as was the piss break
- I like the fact that someone's managed to lose the keys to Wembley
- Finding stuff on the red button that doesn't have commentary is weird/funny
- Why does one volleyball player on each team get to wear a special shirt?
- and so on (for the next two weeks)
Also, I only like the Olympics for the two weeks when it's actually happening, the rest of the time it gets on my tits.
Am thinking I might take in the Paralympics though as you can check out the Olympic stadium, see a few finals or have a whole day of swimming for about £10 still
I got some last week and while there was still quite good availability for the stadium I'd imagine there will be a big run on them this week, also the availability for the swimming wasn't too good (especially at cheap prices)
In conclusion: don't assume you can pick up tickets a bit later on, book now to avoid disappointment!
Got some Wheelchair Basketball anyhow as I always enjoy that on the telly
and for the Fri I have swimming, 7-a-side football (inc. park day pass so I can go into other things for £15) and athletics
full day out and loads of sport for under £40 I think!
Why do they have to keep repeating stuff on the main channels? Just show what I want to watch. Thanks.
It's bad at playing it, though.
The stream on my computer is TOTES rubs.
We have one TV with BBC one one and another with BBC three. I can't see either.
if you want to watch something and want to find out everything that's on now/soon so you can choose then it's pretty poor
this is much easier to read, thanks!
It amuses me, though.
but just had to deck some random sap and then got awarded points depending on how cool it looked.
just two men rolling about a bit, couldn't really work out what either of them were trying to do or what the one guy actually did that made him the winner.
Andy in Cardiff on text: My daughter who is three-and-a-half watched the judo and afterwards described it as 'where they try to pull each others pyjamas off'!
yesterday to see team GB being dominated by Romania in the Water Polo. Chuffing Romania. I keep being surprised by random countries being good at random sports. I don't think I could do canoe slalom. finally, that GB gymnastics lad who is obscenely hench. 'mazin
that GB lass on the bars though, woah.
Sad to see a newspaper over someone's shoulder this morning, article saying how well she had done, supreme athlete etc, with a photo of her completely spread eagle focusing pretty much all attention on her snatch.
I thoroughly enjoyed childishly giggling while watching the womens weightlifting, and listening to very serious commentators complimenting the girls on their tidy snatch.
Some people already gearing up to get on the 'disappointing GB' bandwagon (on day 2!) and suggesting that if GB don't do too well it will have been a poor Games and a waste of money.
a) Team GB will probably do quite well, and some of the predictions made were a bit mental anyway
b) if you're only interested in the Games to see GB win then that's a bit of a shame and you're really not getting the most out of it
c) Hooray for the Olympics!
d) C'MON TEAM GB!
That being said, I am reverting to my Hungarian heritage on current medal standings.
COME ON TEAM MAGYAR!
what do I get for winning the anagram competition?
Brit underdog who has already SHOCKED THE WORLD by getting into the last 32 against a world top 10er from Germany.
He seems completely mental.
He's quite good isn't he. Oh well.
top ten in teh world. Tbf the british lad isn't even in the top 100 and has done amazing to get this far.
I could still take him.
They way they serve reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4ovvsUG-KY
probably right, seeing as there is 24 channels and its bound to be on one of them, but it didn't ask when I pressed play there
but yeah that's what I assumed
Thrilling. So many more attacks than the men's race and the weather was causing so many punctures and slips.
on each national team, it is impossible to control a race like the mens GB team tried too. The women basically ride for themselves.
i thought emma pooley played a massive role in armitstead's win yesterday, stretched them on box hill to prevent any breakaways. was great seeing her smile when she came through the finish and saw the result
she can speak 6 languages
well the last 30-60 minutes was anyway, i don't have the interest to watch the whole thing. But it was so tense and exciting, waiting to see if and when Vos or Armitstead would make the move
swam the last 100m of the women's 4x100 relay faster than Lochte ... Holy shit
don't want to put a dampener on proocedings but...come on. Summat's not right there.
I think it was that her last 100m in the 400m IM was almost as fast as Lochte's in the same event and her last 50m was faster, which is hardly any less astounding. I really hope she isn't found to have taken anything.
still amazing, like you said
cuz other sports suck
Might see what the phone in on This Morning is about first.
it's really nice clicking on the GB athletes to see what the do for a living.
Most of Team GB's women play for sides abroad and have occupations listed as Athlete
I have at least three screens up, and then I end up watching nothing. I should just settle on one thing at a time.
Still getting over the team archery yesterday. KILLED ME. Tension is horrible. Still so flawless. Ahhhh ~ Ki Bo-bae <3
I currently have Korea v Denmark handball, Korea v Serbia volleyball, and men's individual archery. All going pretty nicely.
but since when did we have attractive weightlifters? This Olympics is full of surprises
she looks built for weightlifting. Short and powerful.
she looks so small and (relatively) slight ... how the hell did she do that?!?
It seems to suggest that for £10, you get a ticket for a whole day of sport where you can just wander into any of the events that have room.
That can't be right, can it?
ExCeL day pass
Admission to the following sessions based on availability:
09:00-14:20 Table Tennis: preliminaries (PTT03)
09:00-12:30 Sitting Volleyball: preliminaries (PVS03)
11:00-13:45 Judo: preliminaries (PJU03)
12:00-13:10 Powerlifting: finals (PPO03)
14:00-17:30 Sitting Volleyball: preliminaries (PVS04)
15:00-16:30 Powerlifting: finals (PPO04)
16:00-18:50 Judo: finals (PJU04)
16:00-21:20 Table Tennis: preliminaries (PTT04)
18:00-19:30 Powerlifting: finals (PPO05)
19:00-22:30 Sitting Volleyball: preliminaries (PVS05)
There's still loads available for a tenner and you'll get to see all the venues and everything as well as the sporting achievements being all the more remarkable in lots of cases.
I'm seeing swimming, 7-a-side football, goalball, athletics and sitting volleyball all for the same price as one session of judo or something boring.
both in the same day, with an Excel day pass to fill the gap in between. Can't wait.
Just bought 4
has an awesome snatch.
What's happening to me
65 kilos in the snatch.
still not a bad showing seeing as she is against the European champion.
Where to now?
or to the tennis, as both laura robson and heather watson are playing.
My friend is off to the table tennis. I want to go :(
Little red bow or no.
just a shame david vine isnt here anymore to commentate.
whats going on? just seen zoe smith get the british record. is this the clean and jerk or the combined?
Surely they have a ticket, and have an allocated seat.
Is it a bit 'getting on the plane to go on holiday'?
it was alright - all the different hockey things happened. I saw Ryan Seacrest (who?). Late for work now. Thanks a lot, Sebastian Coe.
Looks like it belongs in some sort of mid 90s game show
also: Horsing and horse dancing shouldn't be Olympic sports.
anyone making a 'snatch' joke about the women's weightlifting should be banned from watching any more sport for the rest of the games.
* I dont know anything about that sport but it LOOKED impressive*
But we have sort of messed it up a bit, should be somewhere everyone cna see and shouldn't go out.
I've got a ticket to Paralympic athletics in the morning, something at the ExCel in the afternoon and the Orbit for the evening. Will I be allowed back in for the Orbit if I've left to go to the ExCel?
pretty sure there's no readmissions as it'd be carnage if everyone was swanning in and out all day
On an unrelated note does anyone want to buy some sitting volleyball tickets?
you won't get that £6 postage back and you'll have to send them back to them at your own expense but you'll get the full face value back
But just log into your account and select 'submit for resale' against the tickets, then send them back as per the instructions.
Assuming someone else buys tickets for it that they can allocate yours to they'll refund you (if they don't sell you'll be stuck with them so you're better off doing it ASAP)
new british record for Zoe Smith and she's in the lead in the weightlifting now
That was immense. Well done, Zoe.
this always makes me well up.
Seriously, I know the rider plays a big part but the horse isn't like a piece of equipment where they are all the same so it isn't really level.
What next? THAT CRUFTS THING WHERE THE DOG RUNS AROUND THE OBSTACLES!!??!? GOLD MEDAL TO DOG
My boss loves all this shit.
Handball. It all seems so... arbitrary.
y'know how americans (stereotypically) don't get how the rest of the world loves football?
that's us with this
I thought football was the most popular sport in the world (gajillions of viewers for the World Cup final etc) whereas handball is...crap.
and rightly so*
* I haven't checked this fact but I imagine it's probably true.
It's just netball for blokes who are insecure about their sexuality.
In the US, it is simply called Football (and "Football" is called "Soccer"), while in the rest of the world, it is often more commonly known as Gridiron.
I've been getting really into it. Brutal and end to end attacking play. great stuff.
like the number two sport in loads of countries
this is why i chose to get tickets for this above the other lesser well known sports. its absolutely massive in europe meaning theres going to be a high standard and hopefully some full on hanball fans making the atmos good. i'm really excited for it.
I'm there from 9:30am. If you see a bloke trying to avoid eye contact, that will be me.
don't bank on buying any food & drink inside though (assuming you're at the Copper Box) as the refreshment stands are terrible
i wouldn't use them as a barometer of the quality of a sport
Currently destroying the world ranked no.23 in the first set
5-1 up, , 30-0 up on her on serve. Has now lost the last seven points in a row.
(I should actually do some work)
What are they chanting?
'lets go Laura, LETS GO'. pretty embarrassing. shut up douche bags.
she always sounds like she's about to start crying.
I have no idea what is happening.
there's no idea of any racing tho, as they all go at about 2 miles an hour.
honestly not a clue.
nice and simple, easy for my brain!
Not going to Olympics any more :(
So I shouldn't grumble too much
Which is a teensy bit out of my price range.
The empty seats things has really riled me.
So many things I went in for - weightlifting prelims for example are half full. Yet when I could actually afford it, they didn't deem it right to give me a ticket. GRRRRR
it might be a bit cheeky but I've put 'olympic tickets selling' or something like that into twitter a few times and some people have been selling tix for face-value as they can't go for whatever reason.
went to the weightlifting yesterday and it was full apart from a small handfull of tickets either side of the stage and the pillar-in-view seats I presume they don't sell
But I can't find any!
just had a pair of £95 ladies weightlifting tickets in my basket before throwing them back
That's way less than I've seen!
It's out by Windsor so means getting up annoyingly early but £35 isn't bad.
The MC for the snooker is doing the analysis stuff for the sailing :D
this has pleased me no end.
Sell it to me?
sailing is alright tbh, nobody knows who is ahead because everyone is taking slightly different routes.
and we've got the youngest team in the competition.
This games is just a learning curve for us in terms of handball.
but we are getting tonked.
match hasn't even started.
Watch the diving
greatest player of all time, dude.
I didn't see China
Now joint first BOOM.
The whole office is watching
How are the scores given? How many dives each? Do you just add up the scores from dive to dive?
I assume the scores get added up as they go along.
The mental stuff's about to start now!
harder dive = more points, but you get marked on how well you do it. i.e. they tend to do dives that get them 100% mark unless they need to.
Ridiculous. Not even that difficult yet apparently.
The Mexcicans were awesome.
what a moment to turn it on. Amazing.
totally nailing this.
those low-rider speedos make the women's beach volleyball look prudish.
But apparently so is half the office as there was a loud gasp after the last GB dive :D
medals adjusted for population and/or gdp
regularly received by Newcastle Library's 5-a-side team in the Friday night indoor league.
Daley should be paired with someone of a closer height. maybe that would help?
at all of the sports.
Hoy may not win his Keiran. Kenny will be unfortunately be beaten by Bauge. Ennis is in a tough battle with Chernova and Dobrynska. Adlington is a 800m specialist and not a 400m. Most people built up the hopes far too high.
Krupakita may sneak it too. I'm not a pessimist just a realist. I hope I'm wrong on all my thoughts. I really want us to do well.
you usually expect some nobodies to come and do something, which hasnt happened yet.
Too good at everything.
when we get to athletics.
I'm sad for him
looks like GB will have 2 pairs in the semis, so chin up eh :)
But this is all going to be terribly disappointing after our freakishly good performance in Beijing, isn't it?
Let's just hope our rowers/sailors/track cyclists pull through.
loads of time left, and a lot stronger contenders.
I've been telling everyone else this, the only 'nailed on' medal we missed was the mens road race really.
We will win a good haul of medals, but it was just such exhilarating and unexpected success last time that I'm not sure we can match it.
Hope I'm wrong anyway, just getting third day nerves!
ITS ALL OVER
MASSIVE dissapointment on the bikes. diving = let down.
gymnastics looking ok tho. smashing it in the rowing and the football tho.
I still think we'll be decent. Am I right in thinking that those 'in the know' never really thought Daley was one of our best medal prospects anyway? Massively famous and great from a PR perspective but I'm sure I've heard people say that his chances were massively over-inflated by the media?
but I'm not sure he's been hyped up as one of our dead certs, certainly not for gold. As much as anything it's a case of a lot of people knowing who he is and that he's very good and assuming that celebrity + very good means definite gold.
i thought him and his partner didnt get on anyway.
bigger than my entire body
It's an awesome list. I'm dead chuffed.
(I obviously bought the ticket from the proper site - not the link above; it just lists it quite nicely)
I really want to go to the paralympics and that looks boss
Yesterday morning you could get tickets to all the Athletics Finals. Now they've nearly all gone as the expensive seats are still only about £50.
Half of what I got has now gone. The Excel day pass for the 31st August looks great, as does the swimming pool stuff (sadly on days I can't get off).
My top tip would be the Wheelchair Basketball though as it's a BRUTAL game.
No idea if there are still now.
Not sure if they're still available.
seems like a cool guy. Gonna have to be a monumental performance to get a medal here though.
I'm a fan.
Lovely handstand from the Russian guy!
Most un-Olympian looking Olympian ever
By which I mean - I don't have a clue what's going on and the whistle gets blown everytime something, or indeed nothing, happens. Seems quite physical too.
Pummel that horse!
They don't look right
I knew I didn't like cyclists.
The empty seats are bothering me.
its really fucking annoying.
No one here is. I want to talk about it.
god, I think I do a bit
Oh hi there Ryohei Kato. Please allow me to stare at your face a while longer. It's very, very pretty.
Reply Delete Favorite
He's fucking stunning.
missing out all the British performances
0.200 away from a medal?
Is Bill Oddie commentating the gymnastics?
as to the relative ease of scoring highly on the Floor vs the Rings?
Apparently GB outscored Ukraine in the qualifiers in the same events
complete with dramatic swerve!
I love the fucking Olympics, completely unexpected. First time we've got a medal of any colour in 100 years!
So fucking pissed off right now. My baby needs a medal. Urgh.
..and could get the silver!
that's cruel. that's gymnastics
Ryohei, you ignore the crowd and be happy. I want to see you smiling :-(
Not all British people are rude and ignorant. I'm so sorry you had to get that.
Wanted GB to remain in silver obviously, but any medal is absolutely amazing. Felt for the Ukrainian lads, such ecstasy and then for it to be taken away. Also felt sorry for Uchimura, losing his team the medal.
Fair result in the end though and a medal for GB :)
He just looked sad. Smelling the flowers was cute though.
but a patch about the size of a 5p on his neck grown out to about an inch
I think its seen as sign of wisdom, or something.
lochte definitely choked
is the way they kick off in water polo. And the music that accompanies it.
alright, free swim! free swim!
And there was a draw between the two runners-up, they had exactly the same times. What happens with the medals? Couldn't be arsed to turn my music off and turn the sound up on the tv, soz.
the announcer leading the crowd at women's basketball in singing happy birthday for someone.
sounds like that old presenter of Get Your Own Back.
on the radio when they're interviewing members of the public and asking 8 year olds if they're disappointed with our medal haul so far and stuff.
actually anything about our medal haul so far really
Obviously I want GB to do well, but it's supposed to be enjoyable whoever wins (or at least it should be).
it's weird that punters are focussing on the big picture like that rather than basking in individual successes (like armistead's silver <333). the only people who should care about whether we surpass our beijing total (which we will) are the selectors and officials
Gold medal at 15, incredible. And she likes The Weeknd, judging by twitter.
as well. I think I love her a bit.
Honestly thought they'd have a heart attack out of sheer joy
was when there was loads of muffled clattering and Matt Baker explained that they'd knocked everything over while hugging each other
If only he still did the football.
Love his voice, reminds me of my youth, Actua Soccer/2 :D
on Big Train when I hear him. Which is no bad thing.
I was hoping to watch the diving (I missed it earlier as I was at work) but all that seems to be up is rowing and horses.
the isn't the available bandwidth on Freeview/Freesat
Maybe I'm being dense or something (or they don't add it 'til later). I can watch it on the laptop anyway I guess, but I'd just've preferred watching on the box tbh.
and flick threw
If not then chose BBC Sport in the red button menu
make women footballers look even sillier.
Womens football isn't
GB v Algeria women's volleyball. 1 set all, 15-15, first to 25 wins the match I think (best of 3?). Anyway, cracking game.
Staying up to watch the rest of this now.
I think that'll be my own personal Olympic moment. Who's ever been a fan or followed Great British Volleyball? That was amazing. It was one of those times you get drawn in by the spectacle, atmosphere and tension. GB won at 00:40. I was cheering like mad. I'm luckily on what I presume is the last northern line northbound home. WE WON!!!!! Brilliant night out.
I thought I had 100m final tickets there for a minute :(
I think anyone trying for single tickets could have a field day at the minute though
Went to buy and it says...
Please wait while we check that the tickets you have requested are still available. *Your estimated wait time is approximately 15 minutes or more.*
Is this even working? Do I try again or hold out?
what I just went through to get some overpriced tickets for some shit I probably dont even want should count as an Olympic sport in itself.
IM STUCK HERE.
WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME SO, SEBASTIAN COE.
the system cant update quickly enough so it says it has tickets it doesnt. I got through to the check out three times and apparently entered my details too slowly to complete the order (or maybe there was some error). Now Im going to the fucking womens 100m hurdles final.
it took about 2 mins every time to get through the reserved bit. But don't get too excited if it says there are some after that, they might've gone once you've completed the checkout.
You don't even want to see the line up I've applied for. And I'm still stuck on the fucking reserved page.
i'm gonna crack open a beer i think.
I fucking hate this site.
Also choose pick up tickets from a box office. Do not select print out tickets. I did that three times and the tickets had gone, and the first time I selected box office I was successful. Might just be a coincidence but could also be some sort of error.
There is an Aussie who has been dominant for ages but a young American recently beat her in a warm up for the games at Crystal Palace (or wherever, not sure, was in UK)
just checked and there are 4 athletics finals on that day too.
fuck off and never complain again
that's still good. 200m heats so you'll see usain bolt and that. i've never seen usain bolt
Oh well. Should be good man!
You're actually going to the proper Olympic stadium to watch proper Olympic athletics. That's more than most!
but now I'm not sure if I did get the hurdles finals. Not sure what I've got. Can't be bothered to care right now.
You probably didn't even think you would be going at all this morning.
got the Monday instead. Hurdles first round, along with 800m, 1500m, discus and shot put. Anyway it's in the Olympic park let alone in the main stadium and that's what I wanted. How are you getting on?
bit of a rush of blood there, kinda regret it.
not gonna get much sleep tonight, got the afternoon b'ball session in a bit.
