The dramatisation of a Guardian columnist breaking wind

JohnDTraynor [Edit] [Delete] 9 replies 03:33, 28 July '12

How dare Danny Boyle presume such abject ignorance that he feels compelled to preach a simplistic rose-tinted history seminar, full of leaden-footed imagery and absent of any shame of Britain's crimes.

An artist should be a reflection of the world around him; what he should not be is a documentarian.

A marvellously enjoyable spectacle, speckled with ham-fisted immature commentary. As an entertainer Boyle succeeded, as a teacher he epitomised a leftist leaning that lacks political understanding and fears true political analysis.

What about Michael Fish's sub par weather manship? EXPLAIN THAT

  • Can you imagine if it had been full of post-colonial guilt?

It would have been awful and excluded pretty much everyone except the white middle-classes. I'm glad he chose to do something inclusive instead.

    • He seemed fearful

Surely, the NHS section should have ended with a burning effigy of Andrew Lansley. I would have been pleased with a mock-up of the banking towers with Diamond and his fellow criminals being dragged out screaming for mercy. Where was the re-enactment of the poll tax riots?

  • I thought it was fantastic

Diverse, bright, not snobby or afraid to look to different interpretations of culture...

I thought it was incredibly bold to give the spotlight in certain segments to things that could easily be lost on overseas audiences like children's literature or the NHS.

Do you really think an Olympic opening ceremony is a place where anyone is going to start critically dissecting their country's history? Lunacy.

  • Sorry, were you expecting post-colonial guilt and critical theory along with the pageantry and Beckham in a boat?

It's an opening ceremony, it's not really the place for it, is it?

  • This is satire right?

And not something that *actually* appeared in the Guardian?
