Loving him at the moment, whats the best set? I just have the milder comedian one at the mo...
I'm more of Stewart L fan
Did she really come up with that?
He's alright I guess, his jokes are a bit short
The new one is brilliant, but maybe his weakest since his 'comeback'. Still better than most everyone else though.
Had the pleasure of interviewing him earlier this year and can confirm he's a lovely fella and probably one of the most interesting people I've talked to.
He'd been up since 6 in the morning with his kid, had just a late show, and his PR was all "you've got 20 minutes".
SMASHCUT to him buying me a beer, plying me with free books, and - an hour later when I said "you must be wrecked, I won't keep you much longer" - him going, "no, no, it's fine, don't worry!"
Went over from Dublin to interview him in London and when we were leaving the venue, he kept asking if I was fine for the rest of the night before heading for the airport. Should really have been like "actually, no, I'm at a loose end" rather than tell him I was sorted with a hotel and to get himself home to bed. He likely would have stuck around and we'd have been best mates by now :(
is his best absolutely no contest.
and you're not wrong this time too
was in tears at the Ang Lee bit. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at a book. Wasn't even that big a fan of him beforehand but this book is amazing.
book, there is so much depth in it that is all linked to his life.
Loved the insights into comedy.
But most telling was the idea he had of drawing the chalk circle on the stage and being able to do anything with in it, because he is protected
Wonderful book, best modern book for over a decade
Saw Carpet Remnant World last week and thought it was up there with his best work. First time I'd seen him since reading the book which made it more enjoyable I think, just in awe of what he was doing. Completely deconstructing the piece. On another level to most.
I'll probably buy it after one of his shows sometime.
Last time I met him after a show I was wearing a Fall badge and he was wearing a Fall badge and he noticed and I felt slightly embarrassed that he might have thought I was copying him. I also saw him the next morning going into a Caffé Nero which I thought was funny.
the rest of the answers in this thread are wrong.
The nut thing
Brilliant from start to finish. That being said, it's all worth a go, of course.
May I be the first to suggest Pea Green Boat (in it's abridged form at least, I don't have the original broadcast), which is fucking great.
41st might be my favourite
even with a different killer punch right at the very end.
different types of jokes and lots of them are offered to you to guess at beforehand, thus establishing your empathy with him (mostly comedians normally only do this with crude sexual
this is the best character assasination ever
He's, without question, my favourite comedian. Didn't even know about this book How I Escaped My Certain Fate... purchased!
