Remind yourselves of when Nolan was good/better.
The Batman brand was strong enough for him to take a lot of the same risks he took with films that weren't expected to make as much money. The branding obviously placed limitations on him as well, but you can't consider that a criticism of his direction.
Limitations or no. They feel like a really long trailer. He never slows down. Memento is so much more nuanced. I don't know what happened to him in the interim.
The chronology of the narrative kind of turns the direction itself into a sideshow (NB - haven't seen Memento in about 10 years).
it's not that complicated is it? just shit
so stick that in your indie-snob reactionary pipe and smoke it.
There is something seriously wrong with Inception and the Batmans. They are good films yes. But there is no space within them. It's weird cos I really like Inception and the Dark Knight but they could've been soo much better if Nolan wasn't so restless with driving the story.
but thanks. To be fair Inception did that thing of blowing me away in the cinema, but I watched it a second time and it was a lot less interesting.
although I've seen it about 5 times I can't really remember what the fuck happens
