Pretty easy. Don't know what the fuss is about.
Anyone else read it?
Natural progression innit. I've read neither - I like my novels to have storylines that I can follow without reading a number of essays beforehand.
That's like The Hobbit to Ulyssess's LOTR.
maybe one day.
1 o'clock? Time for a Lapsang...
Try Finnegans Wake, I blitzed that in about 3 hours - it was an amazing journey. Such an absorbing, beautiful read. Especially considering I was only 16 at the time, it has shaped me as a person and continues to do so.
Oh yeah I love that book too! <winks>
and I think I got as far as page 590 and STILL couldn't be arsed to finish it. I remember very clearly leaping out of my chair screaming FUCK THIS and planning to burn it in the fireplace as an example to the other books
with about 110 pages to go? very, very strange
I technically read 3,500 pages if you count every time I had to re-read the page I'd just finished
I probably feel more embraasassed about that than not having read (all 700 pages of) Ulysses
theres a lot of good jokes about freud in the first few episodes tho so i liked that
I also like American politics but have never watched The West Wing. Yet I'll quite happily watch Big Brother on televison despite disliking humans. Crazy world, crazy times
I actually went to a clifftop and threw it into the sea, as per usual
or I'm going to throw some canonical literature at your face
but with better glasses.
And a saltier clam.
I'd throw some canonical literature at your face but all I can see is a shelf full of your books!
I'd throw some canonical literature at your face but all I can see is a shelf full of your book! (singular see? that's the joke. They're big books)
Shame on you both :(
isn't the salt-licking clam David Foster Wallace?
I haven't read Ulysses either
Little touches, Indie.
Mark of a psychokiller.
Right that's it I've had enough. One step too far. Although I have read the last chapter just because it's a girl masturbating and wanted to see how a great literay figure deals with that.
I cant be bothered. looks a bit long.
Yet I can't remember ever hearing a guy not enjoy it. Don't know why. Never seemed like a particularly masculine book to me
You know who loved that book? The salt licking clam.
Are you going to let that mollusc outsmart you? AGAIN?
I decided after losing a best-of-three arm wrestle in front of our respective girlfriends
You share the same girlfriend (a pile of salt)
Some of that salt is my woman, some of it the clams.
I think we know who wins this round
gave a lecture on it once, though
i really want to teach literature at a university but i really can't be bothered reading alllllllll the literature that you're supposed to know to be a literature teacher
That is all.
srsly. You can skip the chapters concerned with the history of whaling and whale research, they are like the ones about Whitney Houston in American Psycho.
you've ruined my Finnegans Wake quip!
It wasn't much of a quipe, admittedly, but now it makes no sense at all.
because, like the books in question, I doubt anyone will ever make it to the end of this thread.
Unless we stick a masturbation scene in?
for the purpose of this quipe your name is Lee
Now THAT was classic literature.
When I say I got through 590 pages I actually meant to say I got 590 minutes into this
Fuck you, it was still hard to follow
(fuk da h8rz)
Considering Gatsby is a phony. Old Sport.
Old Sport. That killed me.
