but back in Feb/March the water industry, farmers, Defra and the Environment Agency were absolutely bricking it about the lack of rain and completely dumfounded as to why no-one seemed to care that much.
if there hadn't been record breaking rain for the entire of spring and summer we would be in serious trouble for the summer and beyond. The reality is, even with all this rain, if this winter is dry again we will still have problems with groundwater levels.
From the water industry/EA/DEFRA's point of view they would have been guilty of gross misconduct if they had done nothing about it and had normal summer rainfall. I haven't read that article, but none of the messaging coming out of the authorities in the winter/spring were hysterical in any way, we were in the biggest drought for that time of year in history
