Brb gonna cry with happiness
£4m for Paddy Kenny.
Would've been a dream though, especially if Barton hadn't burnt his bridges with him, could've offloaded him
stable investment, substantial funds etc. Phil.Hay seems to think the money is coming from the middle east, any other rumours?
trying not to get too excited, this is leeds, but it would be amazing to see us competing again
Whatever mistakes or dastardly things he did in his time at either club, he's also largely responsible for them both still existing.
Which is a good reason for everyone else to hate him, I guess.
Bates may well be an extremely unpleasant individual, but if his interests cooincided with your own, he was a formidable ally. The opposite was also true.
Also got a feeling Italy may get past Germany by hook or by crook tomorrow.
as that should keep it nice and lively.
On a different matter can someone tell me how good Jack Wilshere really is? I know he played well before his injury, but as far as I'm aware he's only played 30 odd games, scored about two goals and doesn't have many assists. The media seem to be relying on him being a Pirlo type figure who will save England from the depts of football hell. Not that they would overhype anyone.
We shouldn't get obsessed with building the team around him, though. That's an onscene amount of pressure to put on a young lad's shoulders.
That said, i'm pretty excited about a future England midfield containing him and Cleverly. I wonder if they'll be able to play together...
He's fucking class. And screw the Pirlo bumlove, no-one in this country gave a flying fuck about him a fortnight ago and now he's one of football's elder statesmen. The BBC ran a blog talking about how he destroyed England ffs. If the sum total of any 'destruction' dealt to a football team is 0-0, a lot of people have been worrying about their sides with no good cause. Good player like, always has been, classy operator. But fuck me, most midfielders would look good if given 30 yards of space for 120 minutes.
He's been the most important player for the best team in the most improved major league in Europe all season.
You're right in saying we could've at least bothered marking him, but that's the price you pay for bringing a Billy Big Bollocks striker back into the side who can't be arsed doing his job.
Doubt it. I know we've got a nice football food chain going on here and that relative to DiS we're not the cardigan-wearing, Latvian second division-watching bottom feeders but out there in the big wide world of majority football fandom, YOU'RE the bisexual bedwetter.
Pirlo has been briliant for donkeys years. Him and Gattuso used to be a brilliant combination.
What has Wilshere done for people to talk about him being class and the best English player in decades?
the other way, in no way looking out of place against Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets. I've only seen him properly play about five times though.
so ignore me
but that's only one game.
I know he's a talent but it seems he's got even better in the period where he hasn't been playing.
He just hasn't had so many people furiously speakwanking about him that whole time.
Nah, but seriously, he was properly amazing against Barca. The best player on that pitch. So much vision, composure and intelligence.
But there are lots of question marks if he'll ever get fit and stay healthy afterwards after 18 months of knock backs.
worse than losing fabregas, who had a pretty poor injury record, and nasri who pretty much didn't exist for the second half of the season.
But yeah as verbal said he was the best player on a pitch containing xavi, messi, iniesta and fabregas, which is pretty indicative of the kind of player he can become for us and england so long as last season was just a blip and not a trend.
was pretty much his level of play consistently throughout the season.
Germany will breeze past Italy 2-0.
They've an attacking player so good that they can afford to have 7 or 8 men defend most of the game.
Absolutely tonking some Singapore side or other 3-0 after about half-an-hour.
A number of Asian blues in attendance, and, weirdly, a pocket of Liverpool 'supporters', some in full kit, one with a megaphone.
IT'S WHAT FOOTBALL'S ALL ABOUT!
Apparently UEFA have refused Spain's request to wear black armbands after the death of Miki Roque, and they have refused a minute's silence as well.
From David Ornstein (BBC) on Twitter:
"Van Persie to resume talks with Arsenal when back from Caribbean break. He's keen to stay, with or without new contract. Ball in #afc court."
So, um, yeah.
no he isn't
And now Spurs have no manager, the former signs a 4 year deal.
TELLING (or maybe not)
Now just gotta keep our fingers crossed that Modric follows suit
Bale was actually quite poor for large parts of last season. Needs to be a lot more consistent next year.
Gonna be a boring summer if this keeps up.
Would've like to see Bale playing at a top club, but at least he hasn't gone to City.
Also apparently we're close to some dutch bloke called Alexander Buttner? Can Van Der Goo shed any light on him? All I have is a YouTube video which leaves me safe in the knowledge he appears mental enough to play for us
Struggling to get used to this QPR in getting organised malarky though.
Promising 23 year old left-footed fullback (or sometimes winger). Product from the Ajax youth academy, he currently plays for mid-table team Vitesse. Was in the long-list for Euro 2012, but didn't make the final selection.
Dutch press reports interest from QPR, Fulham, Southampton and Werder Bremen.
no sentimentality in Newcastle
There might not have been many truly explosive moments that we'll be talking about for years to come but then the only two times I can really remember being bored by the football in this tournament has been the 2nd half of England v France when England parked the bus and most of Spain v France game when France were never good enough to get back into it and Spain didn't need to try any harder to win it.
This is like the last half hour of the Matrix in compariosn
Great price, almost too good, just wondering if anyone had used them before?
But the website is registered in Thailand, no published business address, the only method of contact is via email and you can only pay via bank transfer (so no Paypal or credit card payment protection).
At best they sell you a fake. Avoid.
the site doesn't even claim to be selling official shirts.
They take a little while to come (4 weeks or so in my experience) but really are top quality.
and then win the tournament so people can finally fuck off with the Messi talk and get on with basking in what a magnificent bastard he truly is.
sounds like Bale and van Persie won't be signing, which is nice.
on the other hand, Cavani's gone to Juve, and (as briefly covered in the other thread) Martinez is on his way to Bayern.
Looks like he might be heading to Arsenal.
could spring a few surprises next year
and they never, ever do.
he looks ace
all it would take is one good game from Nani for United! mongs to start suggesting he's in the same league as Ronaldo.
Many of who have been slagging him off for the last year and spending the last few months telling anyone who'll listen they hoped he fucked off.
I might not even sleep.
Thought it was just me.
Sticking two men on him, constantly harrying him, forcing him into the odd mistake.
Some of the best defending i've ever seen at international level.
slice slice SLUCE SLICE SLICE SLICE
Either for Spain or me transferring him into my fantasy football team.
the you see Pepe's face, then Nani's, then Ronaldo's, and realise that no, it's not actually possible to want Portugal to win if you like football.
Best thing you've said all week (month) (year)
Jesus fucking Navas, this commentary is bad tonight
Shut up shut up shut up shut up. Hes up front! Stop sayin he isnt!
Sounds like a sensible chap.
and probably everyone in the game has him as he's the cheapest player left.
Put the house on him scoring the winner.
go me and my 2 points!
FFS. At least I've got Rui Patricio.
5 defenders and 5 midfielders.
All Spanish/Portuguese defence.
i think thats a foul
Cristiano Ronaldo attempted 55 free kick shots in La Liga last season and only scored two goals. Insistent
Can't wait to watch the penalties on i-player tomorrow.
take the first one, you overrated lump.
Alves's failure. Looks like a red indian. Takes a penalty like a red indian.
Precision. Ronaldo is such a bellend. Wanted the headlines by taking the 5th penalty. Gutted mate.
Portugal still would have lost?
but the Nani Alves mix up ruined their flow. If Ronaldo had taken the next one and scored it might've taken the pressure off Alves a bit...could've put more pressure on Fabregas as well. Who knows.
I think it makes sense for your best penalty taker to go last. Also, to harp back to something Martin Keown said during the Carling Cup final, I think that's the 4th shoot-out out of the last 5 I've seen where the first team to miss has gone on to win (Carling Cup final, Champions League semi-final, Champions League final, Sunday, tonight). All the more reason to send your shit penalty takers out early - just miss the first one on purpose.
You're surely better off trying to get into a commanding position and risk blowing it than planning for an eventuality that might not even happen.
Bird in the hand and all that.
Portugal's next penalty taker would have known that, if he missed, they were out. Pressure. Really though, all the penalty takers are under pressure, and the difference the order makes is probably negligible. Wherever your best taker is in the order, whether he gets a chance to take his penalty or not, the outcome is likely to be the same.
Isn't there normally one?
Think it's just for World Cups.
is NOT to try and blast it as hard as possible
maybe the counter-Panenka. I would
it was really refreshing to see Portugal go out and play their own game. The complete antithesis of England's approach. And it almost came off - they only really looked like they'd tired themselves out once extra time had begun. If they'd managed to get the goal their first-half play deserved, they would have had every chance of holding on to the lead. On the other hand, I'm glad we're still on course to see a Spain-Germany final, and hopefully Spain can play more like they did during extra time. Was beginning to wonder if they'd ever been entertaining.
(assuming they beat Italy of course) I can't imagine they'd have seen an awful lot in any of Spain's games that would worry them too much.
I'm definitely backing Germany now.
but thats pretty much been the case for the last 4 years and oh wait look who are the world and european champions anyway.
but if spain do this again to germany and win I may just stop watching altogether
hoops. i'm freaking out here
you are too bad
give me a chance
