Did you have a My Pet Monster? I'd never heard of it.
Although, I clicked the link at least, so who am I to get on my high horse.
Yeah, I had a My Pet Monster. I think there was a cartoon that went with it, but I could be making that up.
Bought for the same kids who had Teddy Ruxpin.
Plus i have an expensive Mishka hoodie with MPM-inspired colour scheme and yellow eyeball design...
...I'd have probably bought these stupid ugly racist sneakers so glad they didn't release them -__-;
used to wrestle it as a wee kid
took the cuffs off first of course
Good for cyclists, I suppose.
Some of it is amazing though.
But when shit like this happens I'm always amazed that a company of this size could be quite so fucking stupid. There must have been a million meetings about these trainers and never once did anyone raise any concern.
They're not guilty of racism, just idiocy.
i'd say the people who associate these trainers with slavery (and are subsequently offended) are more idiotic than adidas.
Just like that naomi campbell chocolate bar fiasco
I wouldn't have thought these trainers in any way push the boundaries of what is generally deemed to be acceptable (morally - aesthetically is another matter).
I wouldn't have said caution was necessary on the grounds that these trainers aren't 'risky'.
what an absolutely bollocks thing for people to get offended about. i've replied in this particular place almost at random btw
Just that you'd expect them too (in the 'expect' sense of assuming they'd see it coming)
It's leg irons for fucks sake.
is it that much different to fashion companies who push the (slightly more subtle prisoner chic of) low slung pants/trousers with exposed pants/boxers/smalls?
I'm pretty much agreeing with you.
And your collection of golliwogg memorabilia lives to see another day.
That's worse than anything Adidas will ever do!
nice bit of publicity for Adidas too
"If Adidas are pulling this then it's probably only because they've woken up and realised the implicit statement here, that we are are all slaves shackled to our pursuit of material goods, doesn't reflect well on their business model."
fuck this world
Nah. They knew what they were doing.
Also, the appropriation of reboot* by marketing bods should have died son after 'cyber'. Although cyber seems to be a current favourite of government when it wants to ramp up general fear levels a little, so maybe we'll see stuff like 'rebooted terrorism policies' or 'rebooted jail sentence' become common phrases.
*hope it wasn't intended as a pun.
My neon mesh vest and dreadlocks was NEVER part of a marketing campaign, its a way of life, douchebag
a) People who have themselves been affected by slavery, or have family members/descendants who have been.
b) Middle-class Westerners complaining on behalf of people who have been affected by slavery, or have family members/descendants who have been, in case they get offended.
