Great to see a classic film on the big screen and I finally managed not to jump when the head pops out of the boat!
still pat ma shants at that bit.
best line = Oh God, do I need a bigger boat man
there's a bit that i'd forgotten about when they are chasing the shark and the music goes all jolly and fun, like they are having a great time even though they are in mortal danger. bit weird that bit.
and the story about Hiroshima is a bit odd as well
That Hiroshima speech was improvised as far as I'm aware...pretty amazing performance by Robert Shaw however you look at it.
Most of the screenwriters, Spielberg and Robert Shaw were happy to take credit for that speech as the best part of the film, Shaw had two stabs at it ("the only chance I get to act in the whole damn saga"), the first night he asked if he could have a drink before shooting and turned up on set subscribed to the oliver reed school of method acting. He improvised his way through the script for twenty minutes, blew it by rambling about his wife and children, Spielberg shut the camera off, hugged him and said he did a good job and sent him home. Shaw calls him up hours later begging to shoot it again and the next night gets it done in one or two takes, mostly sticking to the script (I forget, sorry).
I love Jaws trivia! Only just noticed the comets a couple of years ago, having watched it dozens of times.
