I've just got a chinchilla (George)
It's not going very well. I tried to pick him up and he just barked at me. Tried to give him a hazelnut but he ignored it.
halp me plz DiS
He looks like a right dick. Lovely stuff.
Put it in a bowl of rice?
One morning I went to see them and they'd had babies. Errol Brown took two off our hands.
I believe in miracles, you sexy thing.
they'll just fight to the death.
But then again I was also told they can jump five feet which is clearly shite
We had dogs too and they were better.
Errol also said he'd buy us a present for them and he ended up giving me a jumper. Cheers mate, just what a ten year old wants.
for how long usually? seems like he doesn't really want to do anything.
My brother used to have a couple. Right moody bastards.
Best you can do is hope he settles in a bit and then bribe him with food if you want him to come anywhere near you.
He took it back to the pet shop after 2 weeks because it continually sucked itself off.
Fair play to the Chinchilla I say.
he just told them that it was sucking itself off all the time. Was also mega aggressive to anyone that went near it.
They hate being held. They just leg it around loads. Don't expect a pet that is going to want to be petted by you. They get used to you, but that's it. If George is a boy then you can look forward to watching him suck himself off ALL OF THE TIME.
I used to own a chinchilla (called it Phat Squirrel) and, frustratingly, they're not ones for being stroked. For one thing, it makes their hair fall out. It needs time to adjust and then you might be able to pick it up now and again without too much fuss.
One thing you can do is sit on the floor and let it run around the room, then it will clamber over you now and again. Be warned, they chew everything so you'll spend half your time chasing them away from cables, etc. You probably didn't know what you were getting yourself into, right?
Turns out chinchillas are rubbish and don't really like people.
Have fun with your new pet!
have just been folk saying how crap they are.
I don't have one myself, but I don't see how you can feel disappointed with what is essentially a MASSIVE HAMPSTER
pay for dinner/shower with chocolate and flowers
Remember: red ears signal overheating.
yeah, I'm feeling so chinchilla like you
Let him know how you really feel.
so he can climb down and run about.
He just sniffed it for a bit then went back to bed. What a wee bastard.
That might cheer it up.
seems to be the only thing he cares about. he got in and rolled around in it for a bit. then knocked it over and got it all over the carpet.
the rest of the time he just sits there, hating me.
put a dog or something in the room. as the dog goes over to eat the chinchilla, punch the dog.
I know chinchillas aren't the cheapest of things but it's only money, don't worry about it.
didn't know chinchillas did that.
make that chinchilla commit or kick him to the kerb.
he's got it all figured out.
if i was sitting on the floor he'd jump around and climb up my arms etc. Used to like being stroked and that and didn't suck himself off that much.
this ones a fussy little prick
and ladders/stuff to climb up and down. They seem to like just hanging around on stuff that's quite high up.
didn't enjoy human company/being picked up. ate pretty much anything it came in contact with.
it was a great day when we found him dead. kid only lasted about 6 months.
