This has happened to me twice, and I've stayed in touch in both instances.
I guess I need to qualify this better - there's a friend who's the same age as me who I met a few years ago. He made the same career decisions, almost identical relationship/moving in with partners decisions, has similar physical injuries, has read 90 per cent of the books I have, even plays the fucking viola. It's baffling, and we ended up close friends almost by default.
And I'm sure it happens a lot - I don't need someone who's read half of Freakonomics to tell me that like-minded people are more likely to hang out in the same places, and therefore the odds of this happening are greatly increased - so I thought I'd ask:
have you ever met anyone who's basically you, but different?
