I like: Gigil (pronounced Gheegle; Filipino): The urge to pinch or squeeze something that is unbearably cute.
I've looked into it.
do tell- I'm always banging on about this, although I thoight it was le moment d'escalier
13 Mamihlapinatapai (Yaghan): A look between two people that suggests an unspoken, shared desire
swedish. means roughly "not too much, not too little"
There are some amazing ones.
Tingo (Pascuense language of Easter Island): to borrow objects one by one from a neighbor’s house until there is nothing left.
The Norwegian one "forelsket" can just mean "in love" (at least it can in Danish). For example the Danish "han er forelsket" just means "he's in love" or "he's got a crush on someone".
Mentioned in the fb comments - cosy, but a bit more.
Another German one - Zeitgeist?
"at hygge sig" is a verb meaning "to have a cosy time" or something...I've been learning Danish for a while and still don't know exactly when to use "hygge" or when to use another word for "comfortable". These words with no direct translation can be a bitch to learn.
have only got to the second one, wonderful stuff
Did evening classes for a couple of years, but there ended up being too few people wanting to do Dansk level 3, so it slipped away cos I wasn't motivated enough to sort anything else out.
how come you wanted to learn Danish? If you're in London you can always try the Danish church...they do evening classes. UCL offer them as well I think.
So we compromised on somewhere in between. Is that logical? Det ved jeg ikke.
To be less oblique: as per any self respecting jumped up indie prick, we had scandi-centric aspirations (holidays and maybe more), and liked the apparent versatility of being able to use it in Sweden, Norway etc. This was a while back, and we didn't go as far as moving there, plumping for Glasgow instead. [insert joke here about the locals here being more difficult to understand than in Copenhagen - semi-true on occasion on day 1, but that soon passed] I've gone intermittently gone back to German classes between then and now, without really managing any sort of proficiency. A mate is living over there (and getting married to a native Berliner next month), which should have been an incentive to really brush up on it, but it hasn't happened that way for various (cop out) reasons. Though mswza has been watching the bridge and the killing lately, so things have bubbled up that have rung a bell - so it's probably all still in the noggin somewhere.
squishy squishy 111 squish omg KPOP squishy!!!
But I might be wrong.
definitely read it before, a few weeks back.
but it doesn't happen often enough to really need it's own word.
Can never remember what it means
Japanese - “a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe… and the sad beauty of human suffering”
with nae fancy accents
that's why the japanese are the best
in such a huge universe? and realising any 'suffering' you may go through is no skin off the universe's back? and that's actually pretty beautiful? SERIOUSLY? 's all intertwined.
Feeling when you remember what you did last night while drunk - anxiety, embarrassment kinda thing
