weather is awful. pinning my hopes on the transit of mercury being decent in a few years
and the recent eclipse for my shitty weekend. The stars are obviously not aligned in my favor.
My eyes! I'm going blind!!!!
but how is there a live feed of the sun from norway atm, surely its night in there
its not like i didnt know about that either.
in "normal" locations the sun traverses the sky in a line, or possibly an arc, but in those arctic/antarctic locations, does the sun trace a circle in the sky? That'd be weird to see.
Look at the sun-path diagram on here:
can you pop out to Tromsø and take a series of photographs for me?
And the elevation (the angle from the horizon) of the sun at a particular time, on a particular day.
The sun passes over in an arc, in the northern hemisphere from east to west, with it's greatest elevation at midday. It's lowest elevation will be at midnight. For most places, the elavation at midnight will be a negative value (it is below the horizon), but in polar regions, during midsummer, it is still a positive value. This means that in Tromso, the sun effectively 'skims' the horizon when it goes down, never dipping below it.
Never goes down.
