Monday Football Thread.
Italian police react to Milan losing the title by arresting everyone else. Reports indicate Conte might be implicated, which would be pretty sad. Let's hope it's a bit of a stitch-up.
Crewe beat Cheltenham to clinch place in League One. Nick Powell now allegedly worth £6m.
Roy dices with his future by playing an unfit Gaz Baz in a meaningless friendly. Injured. Our chances of Euros glory in tatters. Michael Carrick still probably not good enough to get called up.
Yak leaving Blackburn.
Ivanovic courts Madrid.
Aguero doesn't, saying "I do not want to play for any other club. I can achieve all my dreams here". Daily Star still runs with reports to the contrary.
Liverpool continue with their attempts to unsettle all their other mid-table rivals at once, by interviewing two more moribund managers.
Swansea beat United to the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Bobby Mugabe supports Chelsea.
Any other business?

Jason Brown played in an international last night
that's right; Jason Brown.
I don't understand why Jagielka will get called up to replace Barry
they play different positions on the football pitch
Pretty simple.
Parker replaces Barry as first-choice midfielder.
Jones replaces Parker as backup midfielder.
Jagielka replaces Jones as backup centre-half/rightback.
Ah
much obliged
pretty good news all round
If you think Parker and Jones are good players, sure.
Or you think we've dodged the Henderson bullet.
I don't think Henderson's that bad.
He just plays for an awful club side.
He's better than Jones, at least.
I know it's fashionable to mock him, but i've seen him have a few really decent games over the second half of the season. Same goes for Andy Carroll.
Watched eurovision instead
however I did watch Soccer Aid. Nice to see Seedorf deliberately missing an easy chance on purpose and doing his best to set up the celeb players whilst Sheringham and Kevin Phillips tried their hardest to score.
a bit weird seeing an M.Owen coming off the bench at Old Trafford, mind.
He probably did more in his little cameo than Michael's done in the last two years.
jaap stam also took it way too seriously.
lovely goal from the kasabian geezer.
horrendous challenge by sheringham on gordon ramsey.
what the fuck was edward norton doing there?
Stam taking out z list celebs was great
also enjoyed Crespo at centre back.
Sheringham is a massive tool.
I'm not sure Norton got a touch.
Phillips reminded me of the competitive dad from the fast show last night.
The last four penalty shoot-outs I've watched
have seen the team that missed the first penalty go on to win it.
I kept getting Sepp's answerphone message so I thought I'd put that here.
Pretty sure Branny said he was happy to stay a European champion, friend.
For balance, Mugabe also 'supports' Barcelona.
not sure why you'd be so defensive about either, tbh.
Ivanovic can't really defend, and being supported by a despot's no biggy when you're ran by an arms dealer, really, is it?
I will post that photo of Terry lifting the European Cup in every football thread if I'm forced to.
It would be hard to find a club where he wasn't the most racist
but to be fair to Bob I think he's just about managed it.
Just posting to register mild irritation
at an Australasian West Ham supporter making comments of this nature. That's this thread's collective second strike. One more and it's gonna be photos of a celebrating John Terry all over the shop.
That photo is dead to me
Gave it the Lotus Boob treatment of staring at it non-stop for 3 hours until I was desensitised.
I'm more powerful now than you can ever imagine
Apparently Paladini is trying to buy his way onto the Nottingham Forest board
Presumably with money he stole from us
Will Ferrell's one-touch passing.
the player seems to be sending out mixed messages, but...
if City could sign Thiago Silva, that'd be bloody splendid.
It'd be harsh on Lescott, but the thought of the two best centre-halves in the world playing alongside eachother certainly whets the appetite.
Everything I've read is him saying he's staying at Milan.
Not convinced that fits the definition of a "mixed message".
then you've not read enough.
this from the man who spends each silly season throwing his toys out of the pram
every time the tabloids lob out a City story to fill the gaps
weak.
you said it bro
Think he's made some *if Milan accepted a bid for me..* type comments too
Thankfully Barca have been after him for months too, so if he did leave Milan then you'd imagine that's where he'd end up.
Frankly the thought of a City side who should have walked the league last season chucking him, Hazard, RvP etc into the mix is pretty upsetting.
Eden Hazard has made his mind up!
Press conference:
I have made up my mind. I have decided that I will - categorically - be playing...in England next season. Goodnight Springfield there will be no encores.
*Springton
i'm going to play for...that team!
are you gonna end up playing him out wide?
@hazardeden10 good afternoon guys. i made up my mind. see you later. thanks
I bet he's not even talking about football.
He's just plumped for a cheese ploughmans after giving a BLT some serious thought.
word is...
City have offered him the lowest terms of the three clubs, which is a bit surprising.
^Getting excuses in early.
It's a signing that wouldn't make sense for City.
Potentially a great player, but he'd be much better served going elsewhere. If he goes to United or Chelsea he'd be guaranteed of a starting place every week, wouldn't be shunted out wide, and in United's case, would fit straight into their system (with Rooney playing as a proper striker, him behind).
If he comes to City, he'll just get rotated with Nasri.
^Getting excuses in early.
hmmmmmm.
rooney's main striker days for United seem to be behind him. despite signing a deal last season and all that's happened since i can't help but worry he'll be signed as a replacement for Rooney, or that Nani is off.
that said...
i guess that given they're the Champions of England they no longer have to pay that "City premium". Surely it can now be a case of "do you want to play for the best, or do you want to earn more cash?".
:'D
I've given the stories that he's asked for, and received offers off, £200k
a very short shrift. I don't think any club in world football is in a position to offer that much money to someone with the ways things are. Obviously Chelsea and City could physically afford that, but there's only so much Platini will ignore.
I doubt City or Chelsea are that scared of Platini, tbh.
I definitely think United have got most to lose by NOT signing Hazard. Thus, it woudln't surprise me if they'd be doing everything possible to beat City and Chelsea's terms.
They also have the big pull of being much bigger globally than the other two clubs, so i'd expect any deal to be heavy on image rights (which i still beleive are tax-free, right?).
i think the biggest pull for Utd is he'd be the main man really
and would be guaranteed a place. But im sure City will offer more and Kompany being there might sway him.
Hands up if you've seen Hazard play more than, let's say, five times ...
do one minute 50 Cent soundtracked youtube clips count?
i don't even know what he looks like.
dont need to see him play pal
hes got a 90 rating on Fifa, thats all i need to know.
Deeply concerning that Utd or Chelsea might be getting the next big thing but in all honesty the man seems an utter quim.
I dunno. He strikes me as more of an over-enthuastic puppy who gets ridiculously over-excited about anything that's put to him, even when it completely contradicts what he was over-excited about five minutes ago.
I quite like him.
fortunate that objectionable people never make good footballers
i like Eden Hazard. he's managed to troll you supposedly untrollable lot pretty much non stop for the past month or so
untrollable?
i thought we all read the football thread exactly because we want to be knowingly and wilfully trolled each morning.
Group Of Death™ in turmoil
Holland lose to Bulgaria
Germany get beaten by Switzerland
Portugal can't get past Macedonia
Denmark lose as well
Put your money on all 4 teams finishing bottom of the group.
Switzerland: future champions of the whole Europe continent
Why is nobody better than Swansea signing Sigurdsson?
No disrespect to Swansea intended.
I really hope we sign Hazard. He's funny. No idea if he's any good, though.
Probably had a clause in the loan agreement for a first refusal I imagine?
I know next-to-nothing about first refusal deals
but I thought that would only apply for an agreed price/if two clubs were bidding the same amount? If someone else came in with a Megabucks™ deal they'd accept it, no?
If you've got a fixed future fee as part of the loan agreement in theory it wouldn't make a difference
what anyone else bid as long as you served up the cheese for the agreed fee. Only breaking point might be if he decides he doesn't want to go to Swansea permanently.
this has probably already been mentioned
but still, i only just found out
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18205519
goodo
it says 'The programmes will be available on the BBC's iPlayer from midnight on Mondays' so does that meant that saturdays show will be put up too ?
The internet seems pretty convinced that Hazard will sign for Chelsea today.
I'm excited. He's a right back, yeah?
Paddy Power have suspended betting and the guy from Goal.com says it's a done deal
If I was a Chelsea fan desperate to see Hazard sign those are two bad omens...
(He'll still join you though, I don't care though, we've got a kid who's stood out massively at League 2 level)
I really want to not care who we're allegedly signing
but I get suckered in every bloody time. I see some belm has even tweeted the flight number Hazard is apparently on. At least I've not sunk to those levels.
It's one of the more ridiculous examples of the self-inflicted torture football fans put themselves through
he seems like perfect transfer deadline day material
pity he couldn't have stuck it out until then
is there more to this than just Saha's tweet?
hoping this is all jumping the gun...the gossip sides were all saying United a few days ago, and as usual, I've totally let myself get led on.
same every year.

fuck this shit
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/05/28/3132272/chelsea-win-the-battle-to-sign-wing-wizard-hazard-from-lille
they seem to be more reliable than the other bullshit merchants. must be true.
I hereby rescind my CL final pro-Chelsea cheering. boo.
Ian McGarry is convinced he's joining Chelsea
so I wouldn't get too upset if I were you.
i wonder where he will play actually, for chelsea
perhaps Mata will drop back, they both favour the left, yeah?
Isn't he on record as saying he want's to play at 10
Pretty much the only definitive thing he's said in the last 3 years, assuming of course it wasn't code
do chelsea play with a 10?
that's the bloke that plays behind the main striker right?
there'll probably have to be a formation change, as if Hazard plays a 10 as he has done in the (admittedly few) games i've seen him play it'll be a 4-2-4 formation.
Played quite a few games at the end of the season
With Mata playing 10 behind Drogba with Ramires and Kalou on the wings and Lampard and Mikel deeper.
He has said that he wants to play as a number 10 at least four times
in recent months...
If your translate 10101010 from binary into unicode text, you get ª or in other words, the feminine ordinal indicator character...
The ordinal suffix of today's date is "th"...
Tottenham Hotspur! Put your house on it.

So this racism at Euro 2012 thing is pretty depressing
Asian fans taking a kicking in the Ukraine: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18233736
Sol Campbell urges people not to go: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18237932
Pretty awful, I agree with Campbell that they shouldn't really be given the privelidge of holding the games if they can't sort these sorts of problems out.
Can't really post comprehensively
But the stuff in the media has been massively scaremongering and sensationalist, the sky sports news report especially.
By no means perfect over there but when have you ever heard about trouble when various English / European clubs over the years have been to Kiev or Donetsk or Kharkiv...
Be very surprised if there's widespread major trouble
I was going to post this report earlier
Because whilst racism is a massive problem and it needs to be sorted out, Sol Campbell saying ominously *......YOU COULD BE GOING HOME IN A COFFIN!* was so ridiculous it actually made me laugh
WHY YOU COULD WAKE UP DEAD TOMORROW, SON
Yeah that was fairly over the top
He is pretty old...
.
I wonder if there's a case for it being important to hold it there now if Racism is a problem...because it will bring it into the open and then can be dealt with head on.
I haven't thought that through though really, so could be way off the mark.
.
Poor capitalisation.
All well and good
But this is still a country where some authoritarian fucknut likes to have opposition leaders and journalists persecuted and beaten up without charge. Yanukovych is a thug, and genuinely, fans going there should think about what message they are endorsing about Ukraine by attending.
racism in Italian football is pretty well documented and we've had a world cup there

WHAT A COCK
:D
It's pretty embarrassing
when a man barely out of his 20s starts going bald
Did the edict call for shin pads?
DID IT??
GazBaz OUT
Jordan HendersIN
let's hope Parker stays fit.
its gonna be Gerrard-Lampard again innit
*JagINelka
Phil JagielkIN innit?
So yeah, Gerrard and Lampard.
In fairness Lampard did a decent job at times this season in a deeper role, seemed to have curbed his instinct to bomb forward at every possible opportunity. He's certainly going to look pretty serene (slow), with Parker tearing around in circles behind him and Gerrard doing the same in front.
so will jagielka play at RB?
i'm sure there must be an english RB no-ones thought about who could be brought in.
Kyle Naughton? Tony Hibbert? Danny Simpson?
It is not a pleasing list ... England are the Stoke of International teams.
leeds being 'linked' with a takeover by the owner of the toronto maple leafs
:')
the same toronto maple leafs
that have failed to make the playoffs for the past seven nhl seasons?
To be fair,
Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment Ltd. also own TFC who have 3 out of 30 points in the MLS this season and the Raptors who no one seems to care about here and nothing suggested they existed during the NBA season.
Would be pretty promising.
kieran lee
as broken on dis a couple of weeks ago, he's now signed for the wednesday. three year contract. very good competition for lewis buxton - replacing o'donnell and otsemobor with kirkland and lee is definitely a step in the right direction.
also signed some portuguese under-21 international to go into our 'development squad'. i'm guessing most clubs are ditching the reserves in favour of these now?
YESSSSS!!!!!!!!
You won't regret this Edin!
Chelsea signing Dzeko to make the most unpredictable (in terms of form) strike partnership in the world?
I'M SIGNING FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNERS
HE SAID WINNER NOT WINNERS!!!!!!1111!!!!!
HE MIGHT STILL MEAN UTD!!!11!!
I thought that he said The Champions of Europe..
?
better than City i suppose.
The club haven't said anything yet, so I'm not fully convinced.
This Eden bloke seems to like a wind-up, after all.
Sheet.
Yeah he did say Winner..
What he actually said was he was joining the European champions,
which is unambigious. The translation mentions the Champions League, but he didn't.
It's probably done, which would be cool. Seen him play like three times so know virtually nothing about him first hand, but plenty of people whose opinions I respect have been raving about him for years.
Would laugh if he signed for Atletico Madrid
It's okay, he's got three younger brothers.
I'm sure Arsenal are preparing a swoop for one of them.
"no, that wasn't a Nazi salute, they were just pointing to the other team with their right hands" - and also chanting sieg heil. This Ukrainian police officer has obviously got a pretty dark sense of humour
don't know who has come across as more dickish lately
hazard or those ukrainians
probably the latter
I think it's still Joey Barton.
The extended footage on the news of these right-wing Ukrainian cunts
made me feel genuinely sick.
It's ok. Brendan O'Neill's here to tell us we're all exaggerating it. And massive racists ourselves.
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/brendanoneill2/100160992/the-fear-of-racist-ukraine-is-itself-xenophobic/
man... comments in the telegraph are bad
was just reading them, made me pretty angry
It's probably best not to bother to be honest.
yeah
i've never really read the telegraph or it's site but for some reason assumed there'd be a higher class of reader
Reader: maybe.
Commenter: no.
If Hazard does sign for Chelsea...
that's pretty bad news for United. They could have two realistic rivals for the title next year, not just one.
Quite excited about this new Chelsea, though. With Marin AND Hazard, it looks like they might even be trying to outdo City in the Total Football stakes.
Need a manager first.
*Bad news for City
At this rate it could be years until you get your hands on the Community Shield. Sorry bro.
