they're certainly making the breast of a bad situation.
but the world really fucking needs a resurgence in feminism. Individualism hijacked the cause spectacularly with the whole female empowermet=doing exactly what's expected of you because YOU want to bullshit.
pretty sure 'the world really fucking needs a resurgence in feminism' is one of the least 'predictable DiS modern guy' things to say, ever
Trying to group 50% of the population together even though they have disparate lives, disparate beliefs, different ideologies and so forth will never, ever work because of the number of disparate individuals involved.
there are SHADES OF GREY (50 of them, to be relevant)
But there seems to be this idea that women who choose to get their breasts out in public or dress or behave in certain ways or whatever are betraying some kind of common cause. When of course they aren't - they're merely asserting their rights as individuals to behave in the way they want and it would obviously misguided to assume that, because they happen to be women, that they do or should share the same belief system as other women who believe that to be wrong.
Maybe I misread the original post completely wrong but I saw it as claiming that, because these women believe the best way to achieve their cause is to display their breasts, they aren't 'proper' feminists and they're merely pawns of a chauvinistic society that expects them to do that. And I don't think it's fair to characterise anyone as not being a feminist as they go about expressing their feminism in a different way to other people who've declared themselves feminist.
but i mean it's pretty obvious that 'individualism' in this context refers to a particular ideological lens, not just 'things that individuals do'. and while i'd wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence because agonising about what is 'really feminist' is the stupidest thing (see http://isthisfeminist.tumblr.com/), there are still different kinds of feminism, of which 'individualist feminist' could reasonably be considered one, and perhaps an especially vocal or mainstream one given that we live in an individualism-oriented society. and it's perfectly reasonable to disagree with or critique certain 'types' of feminism ('feminism' being a political analysis or stance, not just 'what individual women choose to do'), and to take a feminist stance that rejects the ideology of 'individualism'. in this example, there's obviously a difference between someone getting their tits out and someone getting their tits out *as a feminist act/protest*, and if something declares itself a political act then it's open to political interpretation and critique
but basically, this whole sticky issue of 'individual choice' has been at the heart of endless feminist infighting and theorising and second-guessing and agonising so it's safe to say that it's not a simple question, yeah
I especially like how you're never going to get into anything but you always, always do.
weren't feminists- quite the opposite.
i love how quickly that women gets rushed at the start of the video.
Or, having been shouted previously, "pile on" apparently...
some comedy regional accent voiceovers and/or a shouty electroclash soundtrack that could easily pass for a eurotrash vs chicks on speed mashup.
Weird choice of woman.
