Who'll win? Predict the scoreline. I conservatively put on £5 on Bayern to win 2-1.
Chelsea pull one back in the second half and Clive Tyldesley starts squirting his Istanbul sauce over everyone nearby, but Bayern see it out.
So why not, I'll stand by it.
Someone in the other thread said this is as close as it's been for years, but I disagree, Chelsea are major underdogs what with injuries/bans/league form/Bayern's home advantage etc. One bad result the other day for Bayern & (a comparatively excellent) second place in the league doesn't change that
With full teams, I'd say it was too close to call, but realistically if Bayern don't win this one at the Alianz they've majorly dropped the ball.
And that's with predicting 4-1. And I agree on paper Bayern are the much stronger side, and their suspended players are better replaceable, and logic prevails in my prediction.
But with chelsea's recent form, the back-up centre halves being capable if they manage 90 minutes, the fact they've managed it on different occasions totally against the odds this season, works in their favour. And Bayern have just looked fairly weak in recent weeks/ months in the big occasions, the performances against Madrid aside.
And I also said that 'cos the two barca - man utd matches just had a ridiculous gulf in quality, and no one has ever looked more capable (if unspectacular) than mourinho's Inter of that season. So 4 years ago since Chelsea - man utd
I don't know. You definitely have a point about the United v Chelsea final, the closest match up in a long time for me...
Although, at the time bookie odds were absolutely even for Barcelona v United in 2009, and a lot of the English media assumed Man U had it in the bag, though in hindsight & to anyone who watched Barca play enough that year it might seem far fetched.
to win 1-0 at 6/1. I'm expecting more than one goal for Bayern especially if David Luiz is starting.
In past years I would have hated for Chelsea to win it, but because they're less of a threat at the moment and I like Di Matteo, I wouldn't mind if they won it.
Ideally John Terry would be knocked out cold by a wayward Schweinsteiger shot and unable to lift the trophy.
he'd have made it clear beforehand that he didn't want to lift the trophy on the grounds that he didn't deserve to on account of his behaviour in the second semi-final.
Bayern blowing a two-goal lead.
but I'd never bet against any German team in a shoot-out.
Feel free to bookmark this post and congratulate me when i'm proved right again.
Drogba & Lampard
I'm working at 10...
My contingency plan for if it does is jump in the car at full time and bomb it there, so I can catch most of the ET on the TV there.
well done, Sky.
first corner Chelsea 13/8
last card Munich 11/8
race to 9 corners Chelsea 15/1
4-5 subs 11/10
shown a card Anatoliy Tymoshchuk 11/4
In fact I'd rather stream it than put up with townsend, chiles and tyldsely
But not HD... I can watch it in full, shiny HD glory on ITV, but pay the price in terms of shit commentary.
Swings and roundabouts innit.
was expecting him to smash it into the top corner. sat up perfectly for the volley.
how many goals has Gomez scored this season? skied that one.
AND THE MUSIC WAS CHICKE BY EIGHTIES MATCHBOX B-LINE DISASTER. This is literally one of the most awesome things that has ever happened.
Genuinely amazed. Hope the band are getting some money from it. Great song too.
and danny welbeck
nike's euro and world cup adverts have all been incredibly well done - all going back to that 3 v 3 tournament ad they did back in 2002
Featuring ronaldo, roberto carlos and rivaldo playing futsal in an airport. Just continuously great ads.
wish my nephew had been exposed to those two, rather than stupid wub wub IE advert and ticky tacky o2 advert.
(double Polaroid ofc)
This is a promise
but i've actually begun rooting for Chelsea.
Hope they win it, if only so DK's trip isn't wasted.
Winning the league title aside, it must be THE biggest possible highlight for any supporter of any English club.
Staring into some dishwater instead
"...et il est ici aussi, Redknapp" :D
Done and dusted.
generally - not sure.
another classic Neville scream :D
You can't knock Chelsea's shot conversion ratio
and drogba hits from chelsea's first. mad.
Chelsea win, Spurs lose.
Chelsea lose, Chelsea lose.
hope he doesn't let it get to him and go and make a massive howler
di Matteo going mental, no-one listening.
It's clear Abramovich made some Faustian pact for this back in March or something.
excluding big targetmen defending corners.
ig Kun Aguero was back in his own area at any point, i'd expect Mancini to get sacked.
he's such a cunt
but they'd have basically bus-parked and kicked their way to the trophy.
hopefully they'll play a bit of football over these last 15 minutes.
do penalties count?
11 Terry Butchers tonight
love that guy. best centre back we've had over here since Hierro
I still hate him though.
is there KiK?
straw-clutching at its most desperate!
think it's a combination of losing the ACoN and going on Graham Norton making me root for him
saying it was fate. what a dick
haha spurs :)
my United-supporting mates are LOSING THEIR SHIT.
their worst ever season!!!
they've won it twice.
Epic trolling this evening
Chuffed for Chelsea.
Has he put his strip on just to celebrate?
I guess he will celebrate by being really racist tonight.
amazing for Chelsea, but let's be honest, for decent football it's a travesty.
just won the champions league, scenes of jubilation, and he still comes across like that
All four teams go to the group stage
Platini have to console "beautifully run" Bayern, then give the elite prize in world football to a club who've spent £1bn to win it.
Truly, truly magnificent!
i'm so excited i can't even type, ffs.
charliepanayi may be an annoying nonce, but he's no troll.
for not playing attractive football and splurged all that money on expensive managers, then win the biggest prize with Di Matteo, playing football beyond ugly.
Everytime I see him I think of Basshunter.
So where does that leave Newcastle?
officially a better interviewer than andy burton.
Now tht we turn our focus to England it was good to see the England players perform well on the big stage tonight. Cole really is probably England's best player for the big occasion.
Disappointed for some of the Bayern players, so unlucky to lose again after being the better side. Wouldnt mind seeing Schweinsteiger and Lahm winning the Euro's with Germany.
only really lurk but he seems sound, hope he had a good night - sure he will have.
Ashley Cole, he's a whopper, but he's a real quality player for the big occasion.
John Terry, I'll never be happy for that fucker.
Glad Mata's miss wasn't crucial he's a nice lad.
Andy Townsend is a bell end.
Robben... choked the shoot out, always reminded me of Banjamin Button, he looked about 46 when he was 21
Football is that fucked England might yet win the Euros.
Fair play Chelsea though
the DanielKelly guy
:D Benjamin Button
I hope he gets eaten by a wolf on the way home, the useless git.
but Arsenal fans are the big winners, though, because they'll ALL be hollow victories.
so tonight's shit but not unbearable.
so drunk can;t say much now. best day of my life. oh didier
is he Gannon's assistant?
it's big kev yes, but he's not assistant.
He's back for a 'County do' cos it's 20 years since the first Wembley game...
He's a copper in Canada now - imagine getting lifted off this fucker, all 6'7" of him ... http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&safe=off&biw=1366&bih=667&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=UITKYC_kdfjB-M:&imgrefurl=http://www.aussiefinder.com.au/kevin-francis/&docid=tfvHX7O9jjxOJM&imgurl=http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/465.%2524plit/C_71_article_1240817_image_list_image_list_item_0_image.jpg%253F22%25252F05%25252F2010%25252013%25253A03%25253A54%25253A668&w=620&h=369&ei=niC4T5r-DOr80QWY9ozdBw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=457&vpy=372&dur=35&hovh=173&hovw=291&tx=169&ty=107&sig=111406229076360868212&page=1&tbnh=133&tbnw=181&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0,i:94
Feel a bit for Ibzo. A great guy, sure we'll all agree. Had to sell on his ticket 'cos work twats wouldn't let him have the day off. Madness. Should've fucked the job off and gone, champ. Still, sure alcohol will still be taken.
this is gonna sound crazy but like i feel like if i went this would never ahve happened and we never would have won it you know?
i've spent the last month convincing myself that if i wake up on an odd minute City would lose the title.
i dunno at what point we each began being so superstitious about our respective side's chances, but i'm pretty sure it just comes as part of the territory when SHIT MATTERS.
Stood up briefly to let someone past, Bayern scored. Sat down feeling fucking annoyed. Offside.
Desperately needed a piss so was in the toilets. Muller goal
At the bar getting a drink. Penalty. Ran back to my seat...well ya'll know what happened.
Jesus christ, don't even have any fondness for Chelsea at all.
not only will chelsea be the champions of europe, but also the champions of the world. those libertadores winners won't be a walkover though...
please someone sort out a gif of him driving the cup around AND CHANGING GEAR. absolute gold - for that moment he was my hero
Flies to Cern to receive honorary doctorate for his role in the Higgs-Boson
from a United fan: made up for Chelsea. don't care about Cole and Terry. great pens from the English boys. Drogba: huge amount of respect, despite the acting. a good man, a phenomenal player. fairytale end to his career at Chelsea? Luiz's pen is my favourite ever :D. Cahill... :D
Di Matteo is a lovely man, up there with Martinez in likeability stakes.
was backing Bayern, but my heart was with the underdogs and the English team. leapt and cheered for the equaliser and the save.
happy for DK.
football, love it.
and I actually started backing Chelsea as a BRITISH team. I think it's because Drogba surely has a neck like a traction engine.
but I realised that only a Bayern fan would back Bayern, what with them being Germany's most hated.
must check where FC Köln finished this season...relegated. aww.
Where did the fi...fuck, who gives a shit!
...because United have signed Nathaniel Clyne, Didier Drogba, Nick Powell and Eden Hazard for £37m (or two Phil Jones').
Some good business there, imvho.
only real downside of the victory. Can't see us getting close to Hazard.
a Champions League win would see Chelsea go big. They could realistically afford to spend £100m this summer, and they kinda have to. Seems a weird thing to say when they've won the European Cup, but to win the League they'll have to improve significantly.
Add, say, a good replacement for Drogba, a right-back, a winger to that, we could be looking at a three-horse race next year.
makes you wonder why an armchair fan would go on a club-specific forum which most of said club's own fans even avoid like the plague.
you should get a girlfriend.
Honestly. You're one of the good guys.
I'm only joking. It doesn't matter to me that you support Deportivo, Woking, Villarreal AND Chelsea.
CHAMPIONS OF THE WOOOOORLD. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
really so happy. wish i could have been there but i suppose i t wasn't meant to be and i'm glad that my good pal daniel kely had a great time in munich
he texted me to say he was crying when we won the shoot out, bless him :)
at some point.
I'm so fucKing drunk :D
european champions! I thought this would never happen!
drunk but so happy
but when Cech saved the penalty and smothered the ball I found it amusing that he said it was as if he was holding a new born baby.Other than that, I'm glad i'm not in London at the moment.
and Terry ended up right at the back and out of shot. Good work Bosingwa.
I can't stand Bayern and their smuggery so to see them fuck up a 2nd Champions League final is pretty funny.
Chelsea: Champion Trolls of Europe 2012
I think this picture sums everything up quite nicely: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4arm75b3E1qz6z0no1_1280.png
Man Utd have signed Nick Powell for £4m apparently. that's a lot of money
what's nick powell like?
has had one good season at League 2 Crewe.
could've been signed for £1m in January.
unless he's absolute shite, which seems unlikely, it'll be a no lose situation in monetary terms. he'll either come in and do well or united will sell him on for more than they paid. young english players are gonna be at even more of a premium in the next few years and even being associated with a big club seems to bump up perceived value.
Crewe fans seem pretty mad about him, saying he's the best talent they've ever produced and he's pretty much carried them to the play-offs this season. agree re: the money, i meant more that Crewe have done well to get so much for him.
looking at his google images page, he's got an inconsistent face.
-the 20th best team in europe winning the best club competition in the world
-john terry while i dont hate him as much as everyone else is objectively a terrible person and should never be happy
-lolpop and beautifulones likewise
-leeds 2nd biggest rivals winning it before us
-the most boring final ive witnessed since that chelsea - man utd fa cup one
-happy for danielkelly and ibzo (Y)
-definitely the most likeable of the london clubs that could realistically win it (oh wait arsenal and spurs...)
-despite me quite liking them, bayern cheating leeds out of the european cup and every leeds fan over 40 hating them for it.
-general exciting campaign and route there - probably the most exciting since liverpool won it
-happy for the majority of chelsea players. cech, lampard, mata, especially
-hahahahahahahaaa spurs again
- drogba's charity work probably overruling him being a force of evil on the football pitch probably means he deserves it. and that air guitar band celebration he did with malouda that time.
overall a good night
has nestor hacked your account?
ARE YOU GOING OUT WITH NESTOR?
that's definitely Nestor.
obviously still a mixture of amazed and happy. My only concern going into the game was Bertrand, but I thought he was excellent.
Knew the Drog would win it for us, I just knew it somehow. Lol at Schweinsteiger also. Actually feel a bit for Robben having such a poor game; he was good with us and I still think of him as a Chelsea player on some level.
What a day
he missed a few very decent chances
Either hit straight at the first man or ballooned over the box.
Also, it's kind of funny how much money teams spend on trying to win the Champions League, and then the worst Chelsea team in a long time turn up and somehow win it by accident.
this season has been so mental, England are gonna win the Euros
Somehow we always need to find a way to justify getting hyped about it. I find it difficult to blindly summon a belief in supposition to do it any more.
This year, because expectations are so low, and the pressure is off, somehow we've got a chance of winning it! Anything can happen in football, so 'anything' will probably be England winning the Euros!
It's completely illogical. If Roy can get those players to interact like a team, then we'll have half a chance. But given the track record of squads built on those same players, and the scale of time he's had with the squad, it doesn't look promising.
So Chelsea get the trophy, the prize money, another huge influx of cash from taking part in next year's tournament, and what do we get? Effectively nothing. We only have ourselves to blame, to be fair - it's fucking disgrace that we didn't finish above an Arsenal team that failed to adequately replace their captain, their left-back and their second most creative influence, and it almost feels like we didn't deserve Champions League football. All of that would have been forgotten by next season though, assuming we'd got through qualifying. At least we don't have to go through the torture of that, I guess. 40 million quid. Down the drain. Bye.
you had two points when 'Arry come there.
Love that guy.
kalou to united - 24m
I'm beginning to hope a foreign club snaps him up at the last minute.
He's pretty talented and that, but he's clearly a massive, massive douche.
Perfect signing... Just what we needed... another title in the bag...
...and he seems to be someone who courts the headlines, admittedly not in an extreme way, but just in a proper annoying cunt way.
He's a very good player, but i don't know what he's done to be rated in the £30m + £150k a week bracket.
We'll welcome him if he arrives, sure, but i'd rater we bought three £10m players than one possible future superstar.
He's got far less quality experience than Aguero to warrant that kind of transfer fee IMO. If he came to United, it would be a big punt, given that he'd be our record signing and we don't have cash to throw around.
Probably a safer bet than, say, 35 mil on Carroll, but given we can actually sign the kind of established talent we claim to be 'priced out of the market' for that kind of money, it would be an odd signing. Clearly a very talented player though, with huge potential.
this summer after the game today according to Andy Brassell, well, hopefully anyway
Turning it on to get him an extra few grand a week no doubt.
Rumours suggest he's chosen United, I'll believe it when I see it.
What's wrong with setting-up defensively against a team that's better than you? Personally, I love to watch a team park the bus and do it well. I'm in the minority though, obviously.
Drogba's header was incredible and I hope United snap him up on a free. Overall, good news for England to have the Chelsea and City lads going into the tournament full of confidence.
pretty good soundtrack.
Have you heard about this Blue Moon Way path that's being planned?!
street at site of former football ground to be named in honour team who played there. think there are a couple more streets being names after players, as well, as the newer houses around the ground were in the 70s.
it's a pretty standard thing.
I thought the council were planning to literally paint a blue road. Ha ha. What will the streets be named? Richards Road? Hargreaves Hill? Dzeko Drive? Ha ha.
idk, maybe Mike Sheron Drive, or Eike Immel Way.
It was excellent. Juan Arango has scored some bloody brilliant goals.
My favourite was the Raul chip though. Just expected him to smash it in the net but nah, course not, he's Raul.
I presume that it will anger a lot of their supporters, who have backed him through thick and thin this season.
I'd love him to come to United though. He just needs somebody who can sort his head out I reckon.
a dozen goals, a dozen assists, one of Chelsea's better players since New Year, two trophies.
is he playing like a £50m player, no, but he's still a very good player.
even though he didn't really threaten the goal himself he brought a whole new dimension to the team. He's done that a number of times this season.
where they buy Falcao for £60m or something stupid like that.
I'm tired, I'm sore, I'm still hungover. I'm the happiest I've ever been.
My friend called me from outside the ground pretty much bawling but I couldn't hear anything. Watching the penalties in the pub I was a complete wreck, I probably would have collapsed or something in Munich.
It wasn't the 'let's go fucking mental lalalala' stuff I've been lucky enough to be part of in recent league and cup wins. It was grown men weeping in each other's arms. Just so amazing.
Teaching Bayern fans do to the bouncy on the underground was a laugh though.
all in - ticket, flights, hotels, taxis, booze, scran, the big fat German whore you visited to celebrate, etc, etc?
Ticket was £60 and I ended up getting a Thomas Cook coach package deal, so all travel was £160. Whack another £150 or so on for food and boozing during the day. Would have loved to stay for a few nights but flights were just unaffordable at season ticket renewal time for me. Just so unbelievably glad that I was there.
I don't blame you if you didn't..
I went along to Parsons Green - just waited until they went past and then sprinted back to the already rammed tube station!
so saw the last 20 minutes of it- the players were clearly all too pissed to make it much of an occasion!
There were several goal keepers on there - was one of them Thibault Courtes?
Real shame the parade had to be this afternoon- so many Chelsea weren't back and those that were (like me) had literally just made it and were knackered.
Well, maybe not Terry, but I've realised Drogba has the most pronounced difference between who he is on the pitch and who he is off it. I thought praising all the past managers he'd played under was a real touch of class.
Could barely stand it by the time penalties rolled around. There is a massively humiliating video on Facebook of me screaming my lungs out in the pub after Drogba scored the final penalty, kindly secretly filmed by a friend. Still, don't care, too happy. This and the FA Cup, and witnessing Chelsea bashing QPR at the Bridge (first time I've been in nearly a decade I think...), what a season.
Should probably pretend that I care about Woking getting promoted as well :D
as I was saying...
I was in bits by the penalties. Just got slowly more and more drunk and sat in the back room of the pub being abused by Hull fans. A low followed by an ecstatic high
it still feels that way
That's the worst part.
I was/am so gutted.. I almost felt confident until I saw Olic step-up - could have put all my possessions on him missing that penalty and Chelsea going on to win.
So that's Hazard, van Persie, Powell, Kagawa, Clyne and maybe Drogba (though i'm not sure about this one, myself) - just shy of £75m.
They can't be THAT scared of City, surely?
To be fair we need a new striker now goal-machine Michael Owen's left...
It'll be interesting to see if any huge spending spree
leads to anyone accusing Big Red of "killing football", or "buying the title".
You're worse than The Sun mate.
As I said upthread, Hazard's scored a hat-trick in the first half tonight. That'll help him blow his own trumpet a bit more.
i can't go into detail.
the match has been stopped twice!
wins the french title for montpellier
Doing that after six months of telling the world he was signing for a side known for playing good football would be trolling of the very highest order.
Saying that, it'd be pretty funny if he signed for United after Fergie said he'd go to the highest bidder.
and I'd like him here. Not sure where he would fit in, but the current squad is piss weak so anyone's a bonus really
It's the weakest I've seen Chelsea since Abramovich took over + we'll struggle to compete for the league in this state. We were the better team on the night, though, and imo it's thoroughly deserved after out-manouevring Barca tactically
it's irrelevant, a trophy's a trophy, but Chelsea were by no means the better side on the night. in fact, until Drogba's late equaliser, Bayern were extremely comfortable.
'Manchester and Chelsea'.
an FA Cup and a League title and we're known worldwide as being the team of the city.
But if worldwide means 'by Eden Hazard', then you'll be right there
forgivable, though, seeing as he's so young and was playing out of position.
the fact that Chelsea won doesn't necessarily mean di Matteo's tactics worked, specifically in terms of Bertrand's role. Both Bayern's wingers had free reign, they just were a bit wasteful.
dM's tactics were average, I think. Bayern were closed down quite well but did have several golden opportunities they should have scored. Obviously that doesn't take anything away from the occasion for me.
a win in a final's a win, and Chelsea defended superbly, just thought it's a bit weird singling out a player who was probably Chelsea's least effective on the night.
I was singling him out because I expected him to be the weak link and he wasn't. He gave a good account of himself given the circumstances- having your European debut out of position in the CL final would do anyone in.
Kalou was the weakest imo.
you know what i mean.
I think we're both exaggerating the issue, anyway. Inevitable really
looked pretty nervous. Cole made up for him through being the best player on the pitch. Chelsea's defending was also not that great especially when compared with their defending against Barca. Luiz and Bosingwa were played through too often and Bayern should've scored 3 or 4. Gomez missed near sitters.
