that article was by Neville Thurlbeck too
moral arbiters of our time
outing fleet street fox!!!
if they subsequently 'out' you perhaps you're not really that entitled to be upset about it
But I always feel a bit sorry for the baddies when these things happen...like when Sadaam got caught
Plus it must have been a fairly open secret in the meeja world anyway.
It just got quite catty and FSF started tweeting links to her sponsorship page for the breast cancer moonwalk to show that she's a good person really.
"if Hitler had said he was invading Poland for spina bifida everyone would have been fine with it" thing isn't it?
I don't know if the New Statesman's attacks were very fair - I've followed FSF for a while and wouldn't characterise her as a hating women, but I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like her.
Her book comes out in the summer, I imagine she was on the verge of jacking in the day job and living as writer/media commentator anyway.
I sure she can be a hating woman.
Dustin Hoffman saved a man from a heart attack.
I'd imagine all of what he's said here is true and it's pretty fucking disgusting. His point about the Leveson inquiry probably resulting in nothing is a particularly salient one.
We've got various senior figures in trouble over it. Police saying people are at fault and crimes were committed. 1000s of victims on both sides of the Atlantic. A government wanting advance sighting of confidential evidence. A minister who is involved in a giant cover up. 2 Murdoch family members + Brooks described as 'unfit to run a company' and at fault for years of system abuse. A judge led inquiry. Probable bribery at the MET.
And 2 low key journalists in jail with THAT lot saying 'oh yeah, they're the only ones who did it for a decade'.
and what the fuck does he know? Went from university to political researcher to MP. A 'professional' politician of the worst kind.
i'm surprised you don't know this, seeing as you did that unpaid stint making cups of tea for that backbench mp
I'll let you have another go...
As you well know, the whole thing is a total non-story.
than a history graduate would know about running the economy...
Seems a pretty nice guy all in all and the papers have just destroyed him for no real reason.
I can't access Twitter from here.
Says he was invited to Leveson Inquiry but didnt' go.
Next day he says people are saying eh wasn't invited. he says he was but not directly. Then tells story about a man who was having sex with some other guy on Hampstead Heath and the papers said he needs to confess all and say it was George Michael he met. But it wasn;t. Something like that. All pretty standard cunthead tabloid stuff.
It's interesting don't you think, that not one newspaper went near the things I said in defence of gay teenagers last week.
Those gay loving people at the Daily Mail should be admired for their consistent attitude to me. Not a word about those poor kids....
But I gave them another chance to have a dig at me just by joking a little about my past. They really are pathetic, pitiful human beings...
Who , by the way, are every bit as guilty of hacking and lying as Murdoch's bunch.
Who btw, has been called 'unfit' to run a major media company by MP's . Understatement of the year?
And it's so funny that the Conservatives in government are defending him! Trying to cover their arses when those lily white buttocks....
of theirs are already on display for the whole world to see. Cameron must be the most cowardly PM we've seen for decades.
One last thing....I was asked to talk to the Leveson inquiry, but I declined. It's all bullshit.
It has been several years since two hacking journalists were sent to prison for bugging the royal family. They remain the only people....
who have been tried in the criminal courts. After all these years, and all the crimes comitted by journos, editors, the police force and MPs
The best can do is 'enquiry' after inquiry, and no actual criminal prosecutions? Why on earth are the rights of the royal family....
..more important than those of Milly Dowler's parents, or of any of the hundreds of people whose lives have been violated by the press?
Shame on our political system for it's refusal to take this further. The day they make this sham real and start genuinely prosecuting people
I would more than happy to help. :)....till then, what's the point.
Get ready for today's rant ...:)
So apparently I'm lying about being approached by the Leveson Inquiry.
A 'spokesman' says that I was never asked to participate. By which I suppose they mean they didn't actually have my phone number, so...
they spoke to my legal team. Funnily enough, had they wanted my phone number they could probably have got it from News International!!
You have to laugh really. Truth is though I didn't want to participate, I sent the inquiry a letter from the poor man who blackmailed into..
sorry, who was blackmailed (literally) into giving News international a completely fictional account of meeting me on Hampstead Heath...
Let me explain further...
Poor bastard...he wrote a letter to me to apologise for the story, which made the front page of The News of the World several years ago.
In the letter he told me that two journalists had followed him to his home in Brighton and told him that they had night vision pictures of..
him having sex with a celebrity on the heath, and that unless he let them take pictures of him in daylight there and then, they would..
publish the pictures of that 'encounter'. He asked who he was supposed to have met, and they said they would tell him once he had given them
what they wanted. Once they had their "story" they made him sign it and were ready to leave, at which point he asked them...
again, who was the celebrity he had supposedly met in the dark? They told him it was me, to which he replied "But that's impossible....
Because the man I met was about 6 foot four and had a Dutch accent". But by that time he had signed his statement.
He told me that he had approached several television and news outlets to refute the story and make it up to me, but no one was interested..
Other than The Sunday Mirror, who said that they might follow up his story but only if (and here comes the sickest bit !) he was HIV positive
Sick fucking bastards.
I thought that the letter , written by a man whose only crime was to be chosen as someone perfect to humiliate me...
(I'm trying not to be cruel here, but many of you will recall that he was signicantly older and not the best looking man on earth)
was a perfect example of just how horrific the methods of News International had become, and that the inquiry may be more sympathetic to...
a member of the public than just another celeb complaining about their lot. So I sent it to them.
I was going to save it for the memoirs, but fuck it :)
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm 5 foot eleven, and can't do a dutch accent to save my life :)
Nothing altogether surprising in there, but pretty depressing nonetheless.
but can vouch that what he's said about NOTW setting up that bloke to frame him is completely true.
can you tell us more about how you know it's true?
I hear they once employed a goat to follow Michael Howard around for a week during an election campaign. Also, at least three of their major writers were members of the EDL, and another six all lived together in a big house in Wimbledon where they regularly wrestled naked over which one would get to be Uncle Bulgaria for the week.
as does News International.
Chances of them pursuing any course of action is remote, like, but ya know.
WE NEED CLOSURE
A friend knew a guy who had a brief fling with some male zelebrity (forget who), a paper picked up on it and the reporters hounded the guy outside his own home - he lived with his parents and hadn't come out to them, yet there was a reporter shouting "we know you're gay, mate!" to the whole neighbourhood and wouldn't leave him alone til they'd secured the story, which I don't think they did in the end.
If this was the US then people would be calling for the president to be impeached over Cameron and Co's behaviour, however given the size of the Murdoch empire, how do you even think about bringing them to justice? I think the Levenson enquiry is brilliant but how it will enforce anything I don't know.
