Because you couldn't abbreviate it, could you; you'd have to say the whole thing. And would you not do hot chocolate? Or muffins? Because that's what people would think. And it's just not very distinct. Go on, give me some more ideas and I'll tell you why they're also rubbish without suggesting a better alternative.

The Daily Grind
Because I'm thinking: 'Costa', 'Nero', 'Starbucks' - they don't have anything to do with coffee. I guess it's different because they're huge chains with other ways of building up brand identity, but they didn't start out that way.
descriptors aren't really necessary in either small or large brands but the whole ye olde cozy coffee shop feel might lend itself to a related name
personally I think he doesn't need it... the local meet and hang out place might be better served as just a name

about opening a coffee shop/ bar, even going as far as researching some business grants/ loans and attending small business seminars. Unfortunately the best name we could think of was Starfucks.
One of the small-business things I went to was being keynote-spoken by the woman who runs Green & Blacks. She spent a long time talking about how difficult it is starting an ethical food company from scratch, before mentioning that before she launched the chocolate she'd sold her house to move into her partner's house (and thus had twenty grand of equity in the bank.) Her partner was also MD of The Ethical Food Company or something.
