What colour packets should salt and vinegar / cheese and onion crisps be in?
Just having some salt and vinegar out of a green packet (Tesco own brand) and it feels all wrong, though in a way, it makes more sense.

green/blue
Salt and vinegar blue, cheese and onion green
Unless it's Walkers, of course, I think most people have finally got used to theirs being different, about 20 years after they changed.
Why do Walkers get to be different?
We need some industry standards.
Walkers didn't change, did they?
Golden Wonder just disappeared. I still don't know how that happened.
Yeah, they changed
Sometime around 1989. Up until then they had s and v in light blue and c and o in green. Apparently the change greatly increased sales of salt and vinegar as people bought them by mistake.
Walkers claim they never changed their colours going by this:

In 1989 you would still have been buying Golden Wonder in the correct colours as far as I recall. Walkers only became big after Linekar's retirement and those adverts. (Again, this is my recollection.)
Oh, maybe I am thinking of Golden Wonder then
Though if that's the case, it's a pretty widely held misconception that Walkers changed.
File alongside Wagon Wheels being smaller
and other such beliefs, maybe. :)
walkers is the only one that has green salt and vinegar instead of blue right?
because most of the salt and vinegar crisps ive eaten in my life are walkers, i associate it with their colour scheme
Oh yeah, forgot about lunch, wondered why I was starting to feel ill.
I am only in charge of my body 67% of the time, the other times God watches over me, Praise Him
you know how people get funny about different flavours of crisps being mixed together in a bowl?
i'd probably be ok with that
Good question. Walkers are green and they are kind of the standard.
But onions are more green that salt or vinegar so it's a tough choice. At the end of the day though, to save confusion, I just read the packet. Have you tried that?
this thread is making me crave seabrook crisps
salt & vinegar, pickled onion and tomato ketchup if anyone's going to the shop? ta
and a packet of salt & vinegar discos, plz
ta
Whatever colour my digestive tract is.
Reddish brown?
salt n vinegar = blue as in seasalt= sea= blue.
Cheese and onion = green as onions are greeny.
That's the logic, but Walkers have such a stranglehold I can't quite accept it.
I always assume green is cheese and onion, blue is salt and vinegar
but I thought that was because I grew up in the 80s when people only bought Golden Wonder.
Strange no one cares about the colour of ready salted (which was dark blue for Golden Wonder, IIRC).
Not bothered as long as I get my crisps
(i buy popcorn anyway)
Why is ready salted red?
Salt isn't red. Cheese and onion should be green, onion tops are green. Kinda. Salt and vinegar makes me think of the sea, which is blue.
clues in the name.

balsamic vinegar and sea salt bluey green
mature cheddar and onion a vibrant yellow
Onions are green
sea salt is blue
my digestive tract is red
I'm dying please help
salt 'n' vinegar should be in bin-liner coloured packets
so you don't mistake the contents for anything you might want to eat.
Walkers are very efficient in their packaging of a multipack
compared to the baggy mess of say Skips, Nik Naks or Wotsits. I suppose it is down to the type of crisp but well worth mentioning.
A German loving efficiency? THIS IS UNHEARD OF!
I don't really mind what colour they are
but they should at least be consistent.
Found myself mistakenly eating cheese & onion french fries the other week. Should read the packet of course, but was a quick grab on the way out the door. So frustrating....and bloody horrible too!
