Have any of you had any experience of this? I don't quite understand it myself. Some people just seem to take it personally if you don't have any interest, almost like you are criticising them or passing judgment on them simply by not liking the same things as them. It seems very insecure to me. I mean, I'm glad that the Harry Potter books are out there, as they have doubtless introduced many children to reading, which can only be a good thing. And I'm sure if I were a child I'd probably enjoy them. But the adult world is the world I know so I tend to prefer things that reflect that world. Something that's based in the world of magic or make-believe is just going to have little emotional resonance for me. It's nothing personal against the people who do enjoy that sort of thing, it's just how I feel. I don't understand why someone would take it so personally.
