that was really all i could add. i hope yo uhave a nice time
I hope you have a nice time too
...but made this map for when I went there back in October. http://g.co/maps/z96te
so `thinly veiled...`
Just be quiet.
I've actually been hella disorganised and have no idea what I'm doing. Don't be mean.
drowned in sound berlin
there have been tonnes of threads packed full of great info
...it was ace. What kind of thing you into/how long you there for?
The best tip I got was to go exploring an abandoned Soviet era themepark (although they were in the process of DiSassembling it while I was there:
in Treptow Park, incredibly eerie. Took some photos innit
I got nabbed by security while I was in there - they didn't seem awfully cross in fairness. As I say, they were in the process of dismantling it when I was there in November - can't believe it's not better known, it is a full on Scooby Doo experience.
just joking guys.
but am delibarately not getting my passport renewed so I can aviod it. It's with a friend I feel awkward around now, I keep hiding from them.
check out Yaam, next to East Side Gallery right opposite train station for some traditional German jerk chicken and reggae. Seriously it's great place to hang out on a hot day - very friendly people there, sand everywhere, cool graffiti to check out, right next to the river, lots of live music going on and cheap good grub.
Sure it's mentioned in all the other threads but Mauerpark on a Sunday for the flea market followed by mental open-air karaoke in front of 2000 people from 3 to 7pm then various bands and buskers is a great day out.
And of course Berlin's number one attraction, Rock Cafe Halford.
that you generally stay in the old East parts (other than Kreuzberg etc) as it's more interesting. Teufelsberg (google it), is good if the weather is nice. If it isn't, there are some great underground bunker tours that start around Gesundbrunnen way.
The Hipster level is currently at an all time high, so if they irritate you stay away from Mitte. For a night out I recommend Friedrichshain, cos it be wicked and cheaper. Lots of bars that are hidden, especially these days on Torstrasse. If you can find them though, they are good.
Best club for me is still Privat Club in the old Markthalle. Needs to be a good music night.
Mauerpark is ridiculously busy nowadays, and if sunny on a Sunday you'll have to shuffle around looking a cool t-shirts selling for more than high street prices. Food's okay though.
Go up the Fernseheturm (ooh er) though...it's worth it.
arranged like some kind of maze
I stayed here in a cracking hostel. Really cheap, very clean. 2 mins away from the above mentioned Halford's.
Pick up a copy of Zitty when you get there. It's in German but it has a daily list of clubs/gigs/events. Even as a non-German speaker you can easily figure out what days/places things are on at.
