GET OFF THE INTERNET, IT'S A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND!
I just successfully poached an egg by the "vortex" method, and now feel like history's greatest badass.
What similarly heroic feats are you hoping to accomplish this long weekend?
Had a few beers last night and completely forgot I'd had my hair cut.
Looking in the mirror first-thing was confusing.
I wanted to go see This Must Be The Place but the only Cineworld showing it is about 450 miles from my flat so I'll probably do something else instead.
In work today.
In work Monday.
B(
im working on both sides of the "long" weekend.
seriously, Easter's never been anything but a normal weekend in my house for as long as I can remember, bar the chocolate eggs and shit. I struggle to imagine actually making a big deal about it, but that's probably a product of being brought up in a nonreligious household.
Christians; Easter's more important than Christmas, right?
really good question.
and beyond that, ascension sunday should be more important than both, right?
I was brought up as Catholic
And so in that West of Scotland sense will forever be tainted with it, but in our house Easter was never *actually* more important than Christmas.
Sure, in a strictly religious sense it's the more important festival but - short of living in a commune - I don't think it's possible for that to outweigh the greater emphasis society as a whole places on Christmas.
Selection boxes > Easter eggs, anyway.
Although obviously I'm not trying to extrapolate my experience to those of all Christians (present or recovered) everywhere
Not more important, no.
It doesn't really work that way. Much longer build-up and a fair bit more expected of you though.
LAPSED CATHOLICISM, WOOOOOOOOO
true,
i was meaning that the holiday has more importance in the religious story than just the birth as it's a critical point in the whole coming back from the dead and dying for our sins stuff, but sure - both are as important as celebrations or holidays.
Coming back from the dead was just proof he was the son of god
no one had been saved at that point.
that whole, cleansing sins/opening gates of heaven stuff didn't happen until he ascended after however many weeks of pranking his pals.
WHOOOO, THOMAS, I AM A GHOST, WHOOOOOOO, YOU FUCKED ME GOOD AND PROPER YOU BALLBAG.
LOL SOZ DOOD, BACK FROM TEH DEAD YEH, TOLD YOU I WAS THE SON OF GOD, GIVES A HUG.
:D
never really celebrate it either, but it's always nice to have a long weekend off
find it pretty weird when non-religious people in their mid/late 20s go back to their parents' house for the weekend though
I'm only going back
because I'm unlikely to for a while, given I'm working / at PrimaBEERa for the next two bank holidays. Plus, it's a nice day, and I'll get to SEE THE SEASIDE.
That'll be people like me then
Although my mum and dad are religious. It's nice for them, and I get nuff food.
SOLIDARITY with Sheeldz and Heathen, I'm in the office today, along with three other people, filling a warehouse sized office.
Actually got stuff on too.
Easter meant toss all in our house, we got chocolate egg on Sunday and that was that.
My DiS typing is really conspicuously loud.
Humming really loudly
usually covers up the conspicuously loud typing in a quiet office.
my work, being full of contractors
is pretty busy this weekend. also, we are all heathens.
yep, in the 'at work' team, too
will be on Monday as well.
I'm going to see Tinariwen tonight, they should be pretty good.
I only just realised it was a bank holiday weekend about an hour ago
My day wont change much to be honest. I'll finish off a bit of work this morning, go on a run - hoping for 10-12k today, come home and have some lunch and then tidy up the lounge, do a bit of a hoover then off to 93 feat east laterrrrs.
This is the first time I've been in the UK
over Easter since 2007. I get a free SIX DAY WEEKEND so I've always used it to go away, but we're doing our big holiday in September this year. Couldn't give two shits about Easter though, I'd prefer to work if the campus was bloody open, but it's not. So.
Going to the Isle of Wight later to see parents and things. Hmmm.
Just checked my work email
There's an automated Out of Office reply CLUSTERFUCK situation going on. I'm down as monitoring someone else's email because she's off all week (even though I am too), but since we work on lots of the same cases I'm CC'd into quite a lot of her emails.
So I'm getting duplicate emails which are triggering Out of Office replies to each other and oh the huge manatee it looks like a mess.
Oh well. Someone else's problem until next Monday.
sounds like there's a set up issue on outlook
as the cascade of out of office issue has been dealt with in the last few places I've worked (ie everywhere in the last 9 years).
I keep trying to set off a cascade of emails of this type on occasion when bored and see if i can crash/overload the mail servers, and it never works, usually stops sending oofs in the same chain after the first one.
Yeah, it's not taking down the mail server or anything
The Out of Office thing is just the icing on the cake from being copied into emails which I'm getting duplicates of while being set as Out of the Office (as is the person whose emails I'm copied in on).
I just feel sorry for the guy who's copied in on mine AND the woman I'm "covering for"'s emails. That won't be pretty.
some film bloke is coming to see me for an interview, Werner or summit
He's doing a documentary on death row. I tried explaining I'm in England, so am not on death row, he just said 'yeah, but you fucking should be'. Should be a laff
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_the_Abyss_(film)
stab him up.
that'll teach him.
OH GOD IT'S SO QUIET
Fart
With gusto.
Aah, gusto.
I'm at work
I think today is the first year I've realised that good Friday is actually a back holiday.
It's just a normal day for me, except I get paid double. And I might make an Easter branch tomorrow.
Easter branch?
it symbolises new life growing from something old
thought it might be her inability to use swype again
i was supposed to be in work
but i'm not!!! :D
b d
what does b d mean.
i have seen it all over the board, yet i missed the AGM where it became an ackowledge DiSism.
Two thumbs up.
jfc
of all the days to use that
HATE CRIME
BLASPHEMY
BLASPHEYOU
BLAS FOR EVEERRYYYBODY IN THE ROOOOOOOOOOOOOM
i went on one of those cycle hire things in london yesterday
big fan.
Today I'm going to westfield in stratford and, if my knee holds up, im going to run for three hours.
I want to go and play in a park.
i typed a big long thing and it got eaten. Stupid DiS
Got workn up at 8am by tree surgeons carving away at some of the trees in my garden. So fucking cross.
I've compensated with a haggis and pocahed egg breakfast on an Aulds morning roll.
I love my puppy sooo much <3
I have lots of friends to see this weekend. So tired already.
Will the greek islands be warm in early May?
haggis for breakfast
There's an idea.
It's an integral part of a full Scottish breakfast.
Having said that, so are most meat-based foods.
yup, the stuff that's shaped like a round slice of black pudding.
It was sooo good.
Tomorrow I have black, white and fruit pudding. Sunday I'm having clyde tunnel (square sausage with black pudding in the middle.)
The rest of April, I will be on grated carrot and sashimi, trying to shoehorn myself back into my teeny summer clothes.
Black pudding <3
God bless (the "world famous") Bury Market
it'll be special breakfast haggis as well.
=D
"chippie" haggis>"family" haggis>"breakfast" haggis>King of Limbs
omg
and aulds morning roll... jesus. you know you can't get proper morning rolls outside of glasgow? fucking mental. even the ones called "glasgow rolls" up here are totally weak and have no crunch. :'''(
feeling homesick now.
slightly over-fired ones?
havn't seen those in shops in edinburgh for a number of years either.
one of my mates runs a bakery
next time i see him i'll ask if there's been any 'industry standard' changes to blame for this.
I'll post you some up if you like
Tell me more about this poached egg
Technique, yolk consistency, etc.
my poached eggs are consistently perfect
It sounds boastful, but ti's true. i'm a decent cook but can be a bit hit or miss in the kitchen, with everything except poached eggs, which are always divine. I have a highly successful and patented technique, which involves a ladle and a deft flick of the wrist.
Not much on today
just lazing about at the mo, whilst the mrs is out with my mum picking up fabric samples for the wedding dress. meeting my dad's gf for the first time later, need to tidy, then mrs and ma are out again later to go to the dress makers. I've got next week off, which has been a long long time coming, and achieved office worker nirvana yesterday - clear desk, for the first time in about 6 months.
what shouldI have for lunch?
Bank holiday so options are limited. No fast food.
bagette and humous
this sounds really good
I haven't had houmous in ages.
Everything has effectively wound down for the holiday weekend.
Most folk are just milling about, hanging out.
Just waiting for the jobsworth boss to build up just enough spine to tell us to bolt. Attrative boss has already fled to the pub.
Attrative boss has the right idea.
I'm going to do nothing today
it's what Jesus would've wanted.
hi, everyone!
my Lent resolution was not posting on here. I kept it!
Hope you're all well.
I'm jealous of your bank holiday.
I have absolutely no Easter plans, but this should be a good weekend: shows, dance nights, etc.
