I'm single and 28. Decide my life for me.
.. on where your parents live and what your life would be like back there.
HAPPINESS - ALL OF THE TIME! EVERYTHING - NOW!
It's a fair point. A bit of long-term thought never hurt anyone, even if it does involve a bit of short-term unpleasantness.
in the long run, we're all dead.
I think Keynes said that too.
Keynes' quote doesn't devalue the concept of `maybe I should invest a little bit in my future, in order to make sure I'm looked after as best I can be in later life` though does it?
His great friend Bertrand Russell's your man for that.
You are all grown up now, yeah?
Like a budget version of The KLF.
and not have to live with his folks though.
Think my parents would laugh at me and then very slowly close the front door if I asked them if I could move back to save money.
it should be
Would you move back in with your parents if someone paid you £10K?
would you pay £10k to not have to move in with your parents?
the room i'd take is £550 per month
If your parents are happy to have you and you want to save the money - go for it. It would have the added bonus of having your meals cooked, washing done for you, giving you more time to do what you want.
If they aren't happy with it - it will become a nightmare. I have been there myself but I guess not all parents are controlling like mine. My parents wanted 50 quid a week off me when I was only doing a part time, minimum wage job and on holiday from Uni. If they are going to charge stupid amounts of keep, may be better to get a house share/lodge somewhere cheaper.
and i wouldnt have to pay any rent or expenses. It's just boring and i wouldn't go out as much or do dating and stuff.
The 10k doubles my nest egg for when i'd eventually wanna buy somewhere or whatevs...
Literally have today to decide if i want to take my friend's spare room. Hmm
if it's proper shit after a month or whatever then move somewhere else.
take the money.
even if you save 5k and then move back that's pretty rad.
stave off the bordom by doing something you've always wanted to do ( leearn an instrument, learn a language, get proper buff etc)
you can always put some of that 10k into paying for a prossie now and again.
go home, save money, then move back to London with driving test done and some advanced prostitute experience.
i'll be 29 bt then.
i'm presuming your folks aren't going to tie you into a contract
you can have a bit of both.
stay with your folks for six months instead.
.. I would stay in London. I get on brilliantly with my parents and could happily live with them and I ever need to I would move back there. But it would be going back to somewhere I feel I've moved on from and wouldn't have much of a life there. Obviously I could start building a life there and get in contact with some old friends etc. but that's not where I want my life to go. I love living in London and everything I get to do here and would only move somewhere I thought would be equally as exciting or if it was a major career or relationship move. 28 isn't particularly old in the grand scheme of things, you have time to save in the future, I would say it's more important to live your life somewhere you want to be while you still have no major responsibilities rather then saving the 10k at the moment. Saying that seeing as you are considering this maybe you are not enjoying London life that much so it is going to have to be a personal decision.
chances are that you'll never be able to afford a place on your own anyway, and will need to spread the cost with a girlfriend/partner.
You'll never get a girlfriend living with your parents.
