I thought this too. Until last November or summit when I had to talk about how bad the British Museum is and I made a joke about playing marbles and oh god I'm so thick.
And my friend was like 'YOU DO KNOW THAT THEY'RE NOT BIG MARBLES DON'T YOU LOL' and I was like 'HAHA OFC LOL'.
I thought this until er...right now. Maybe there's some kid's programme which lied to us?
My dad told my sister that Nelson's Column was for/of Nelson Mandela and she repeated that at school when she was about 15.

Elgin was some prat who cut them in half in order to steal them, and with the help of a corrupt official smuggled them back to his private house where he hoped they would stay for all eternity.

And thats pretty much the British Museum all over. Full of things that the Victorians killed a lot of pigmys armed with sticks to steal. But that's the way it was then...

Imagine how amazed I was when I grew up and found out that it meant the exact opposite !
This was from reading instructions on things that would say 100grammes approx. or similar and thinking that instructions were always EXACT AND TO THE POINT OR ELSE IT ALL WENT WRONG or something like that.
It all changed when I read this thread today.
