Signposts to a city in the middle of another city

countzero [Edit] [Delete] 12 replies 14:12, 16 March '12

Inspired by the "The North?..." thread.

Don't you find it odd that you can be driving along a minor A road or something in London and see a sign reading "Elephant and Castle, Brixton...Portsmouth". Or say, Manchester with a sign like "MEN Car Park...Glasgow...".

I get this if you are on a major A road that is actually heading in that direction but it appears to me sometimes these sings are random and even though you COULD get to glasgow by heading in that direction you'll see another sign coming from a different direction, heading the other way, pointing to that same city.

So basically these signs are just telling you to leave the city in every direction and eventually you'll end up in another one.

yeh?

  • I'm with you

There are signposts to Portsmouth all over Clapham and I have no idea why.

  • This thread has reminded me

of the time I saw Manchester's very own rave-up version of Led Zeppelin THE MUSIC play their first southern show in Kingston-upon-Thames because they said "we're not playing fockin' London!" and the guitarist wore a t-shirt saying THE NORTH on it.

    Lads.

  • makes sense to me

people dont always know that the A4673 leads to a certain city but if they know it heads to one in their general direction they can follow it.
