can I get a good dough recipe please?
Strongly recommend you use the 00 Pasta flour though.
does the pasta flour make a bit difference?
do you use semolina?
Really elastic dough.
I usually just dust the board with semolina so it gets coated.
1 teaspoon of fast-action yeast
2 teaspoons of yeast
mix up in a big bowl, add lukewarm water gradually until it's the right consistency;
knead for 5 minutes or so.
Roll out on a floured surface
Put on a lightly greased baking/pizza tray.
Leave to rise a bit in the airing cupboard/somewhere warm for 15-20 minutes.
3 teaspoons of yeast would be a bit too yeasty.
You should never prove anything in an airing cupboard, dries it out (might be ok for 15mins I suppose)just somewhere breezeless will do.
something something yeast
15 minutes is fine for pizza though: my pizza dough is pretty pretty pretty good.
I have a starter in the fridge so will have to do that soon. Did make sourdough pancakes and they were pretty tasty.
Your mum's fresh yeast makes me rise (in my pants).
You don't need yeast in pancakes (do you?)
these no rise but it just replaces some of the mix and gives them a nice tang.
Sounds a bit *lifestyle*.
(I have never watched their programme)
like I just keep it in the fridge and ignore it until I have a pang of guilt that it might be dead.
that was unpleasant
the top was water with a layer of black underneath it. I managed to dig under it and lazarus it back. Kept it alive for a year now.
Dolcelatte, pine nuts, spinach, parma ham (no tomato on base)
Smoked mackerel, sweetcorn, red onion, black olives, sundried tomatoes
Brought build-your-own-pizza night into disrepute, ruined it for everyone.
is that with a bit more effort, he could definitely have made it into a face.
sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, mozzarella.
and then eat them all seperately.
buy a cheap can of sweetcorn and then just eat that
an unexpectedly cheap joy
Another simple meal is pasta, chopped toms, sweetcorn, chillies and cheese on top.
even better if its in a mill as big as an infant
kalamati olives, nuts(pine, pistachio, pecan or walnut), capers, raisens, onion, parmesan and plenty of black pepper
also never understood the whole spinach thing on pizza, it just provides a cloak meaning that its soggy under the spinach
also, wilt your spinach first, no more liquids
or perhaps we have missed off the obviously more delicious toppin than any other ......roast snorlax
I mean, who on earth uses that as a pizza topping?
Just, this is actually the most obnoxiously middle-class thread in the history of DiS.
Also it reminds me of my year 8 birthday parties when I said we'd be making pizzas, and my mum bought pizza bases and got out some bowls of cheese, wafer ham, tinned pineapples etc and all my friends started talking about how they would only ever make their own bases because it's so much better, and they'd get the ~special~ ham and ~special cheese~ and a dozen toppings that I'd never heard of let alone tasted. And then my friend stole the idea for her birthday party and they had all the ~special~ cheese and stupid toppings and I didn't know what any of them were and I tried bits and it all tasted horrible and they laughed at me and said I should go to the shop and get all the cheap stuff I had at my party because I liked it better and then I cried and my mum had to come and pick me up.
But mainly because it's the most obnoxiously middle-class thread in the history of DiS.
I know what you mean though, when I saw what thewarn has on his pizza I was like jeez
NOT my Pizza.
PS: when brushing your calzone with olive oil before popping in the oven, PLEASE use extra virgin.
Please tell me you mean panzarotti
who decided the whole year really had to know that my house had stuff from Netto in. Trust me, you overestimate them.
Fucking catchment areas.
Well, I'd think it was pretty vulgar, but I wouldn't have bothered replying to say that.
Is Netto still going?
I had to take my lunch/PE kit in to school in Lidl/Aldi/Netto bags all the time, much to everyone else's amusement.
Does posting a pizza topping suggestion in this thread mean I've finally made the step up?!
Would you describe yourself as a feminist?
Kids are such bellends.
Just 'pimping' a no-frills one.
from my Victorian townhouse.
juss sayin like.
or how is making pizza middle class?
When I made and delivered pizzas I got paid £85 a week, hardly a middle class wage.
Pizza's can provide a meal that is incredibly cheap in comparisson to other stuff.
Go into aldi and check out their jars of sundried tomatoes, and grilled marianated artichoke (about £1.10 a jar) these would make several pizzas.
Olives can also be pretty cheap.
Check out Aldi's eggs at 85p per half dozen free range medium (although i cant abide eggs on pizza)
Aldi's passata at 25 or 29p can be used as the sauce base for several large pizzas all that needs adding to this is some salt herbs and pepper.
to show that it would still be cheaper to make a poncey middle class one than to buy.
how middle-class something is.
What just happened?
But i never expected it to be like this.
I never particularlyt felt that much pain, but perhaps girls rub it in a bit more than boys do? I dont know?
Why's the lady shouting at us?
I think I know what packetmoss needs, she needs to come round to my house and have some glorious home made food from a down to earth family, hell she'd get on like a house on fire with my eldest, he seriously wanted to do japanese at uni (learnt it himself) we've got a very large amount of manga and anime (although very higgldy piggldy, certainly not neatly stacked) and lots of games and pokemon paraphenalia, he is also rather handsome and is not fond of conversing or even replying to other people that he considers idiots, so really I could see them hitting it off, except she is a bit older than him
also a real pizza i have seen in italy:
NEGRO STYLE - Pomodoro - Mozzarella - Pollo panato - Rucola - Salsa Barbeque - Salsa Blue Cheese
Tin of chopped tomatoes
Pinch of salt
A little sugar
Cook for a while and blend.
plastic bags, carpet tile (half a tile is usually plenty), cat litter, car oil and black pepper.
So fuck off with your onion you.
Then just throw about a dozen other toppings on and serve it on a prole.
Guys, we do all have pizza stones right?
most painful experience of my life
like jamie oliver ;)
mushrooms, green peppers, olives, sundried tomatoes, sliced mozzarella
I mean.... this is insane.
onions - sure.
capers - not got a clue what these are. guessing vegetables or small fish.
blue cheese - never had.
jalapenos - never had.
bacon - never seen it on pizza, but okay i guess.
mushrooms - don't like. but fair enough.
chillies - don't think i've ever had them.
cheese and tomato sauce - so long as these are two separate things, go for it.
dolcelatte - absolutely no idea. presuming not coffee, but...
pine nuts - nuts from pine trees, i suppose? idk, never seen them.
spinach - idk if i've had this or not. probably. but on pizza wtf?
parma ham - oooh ~special ham~, look how totally not common you are, yay!
smoked mackerel - what?????
sweetcorn - yay, normal stuff! so long as it's tinned.
red onion - go on then.
black olives - tried some kind of olive at that birthday party. also, no.
sundried tomatoes - oh ffs, is this really necessary?
anchovies - just.... no comment.
prosciutto ham - oooh, more ~special ham~, nfbjegaignvnvggggggggggggg
egg - yeah, don't even know where to start with this tbh
gorgonzola - ooooh ~special cheese~, good job!!!!!!!1111111111111!
ham - ham? normal.... ham? excellent.
prawns - this is just an attempt to compensate for the normal ham right? urgh.
aubergine - LOL, has to be a joke
shallots - these are just small onions ffs use onions oh wait must look posh onions too common carry the fuck on then
chilli flakes - FLAKES? what? like fish food? i might just give up on this
artichoke hearts - guys, think we found the most obnoxious thing is the obnoxious thread, thewarn wins, rest of you work on being less common, k? also, wtf even is this?
mozzarella - well yeah.
green pepper - good.
courgette - on... pizza? lose middle =-class points for spelling fail though.
black pepper - what why on earth?
kalamati olives - fuck, going to have to take it back from thewarn, i didn't even know ~special olives~ existed. amazing.
pistachio/pecan/walnut - do we actually have the same understanding of "pizza"? like, bread-ish thing with toppings on? starting to think this might be one big misunderstanding BECAUSE SERIOUSLY GUYS THIS IS JUST WEIRD
raisins - see above
parmesan - umm.... pizza already has cheese, k?
pomodoro - not got the slightest idea what this is. ridiculous.
pollo panato - what???? this has to be a joke post....
rucola - these things don't even exist. why am i acknowledging troll post?
salsa barbecue - so... salsa? i don't even understand.
salsa blue cheese - okay, this one DEFINITELY doesn't make sense. like, blue cheese with salsa in what what why are you doing this to me?
based on a real pizza sold in a real pizzeria called NEGRO STYLE
it's breaded chicken, barbecue sauce and blue cheese sauce on top of cheese and tomato. just cos it's foreign doesn't mean it's posh
i guess that is posh
You'd LOVE it.
I actually have no idea what you're trying to get across with this. Unless you simply wanted to inform me that the Japanese are really into food, in which case, good for them.
Super Junior aren't really into food by the look of them.
sushi that sort of thing
look im vegetarian I don't eat a lot of japanese stuff
doesn't mean they are 'posh' or 'wrong'.
Do you like salt and vinegar? BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NEED SOME FOR THE MASSIVE CHIP* ON YOUR SHOULDER.
Cathedral City cheddar is normal, right? So if I move my hand a little to the left in the chiller cabinet to get the mature cheddar or, god forbid, the extra mature, does that make me HISTORY'S GREATEST MONSTER?
And if I get smoked/mustard/crumbed ham, is that posh because it's not the cheap mechanically processed stuff? Today I had pastrami in my sandwich - it's a sandwich meat that isn't ham!! It must be SPECIAL!!!
and I want to cook you pizza, or some other food
what sort of wine should I get? chianti classico? valpollicelli amarone? barola? or would you be happier with an ordinary valpollicelli or bardelino?
sorry just teasing with that paragraph (to tell the truth I didnt get into blue cheese or olives till I was past my mid 20's, but I think that you should allow black pepper.........also chillies? there is absolutely nothing middle class about chillies, not in birmingham anyway)
Seriously I would really really like to cook for you so if you are ever in edinburgh let me know
and Im not quite sure how I would broach the subject
I have honestly started to wonder if you have Aspergers or something? And I genuinely, hand on heart, do not mean that in a nasty way.
called a veneziana from pizza express and easily the cheapest pizza (apart from marghareta) on the menu, but also the best ....it is just tomato and mozzerella and cheddar with pine nuts and raisens and capers and olives.....you see capers are salty (but vegetarian unlike anchovies) and the saltyness combines really well with the sweetness of the raisens.....a lot of poncey foody shit is about combining contrasting flavours to amuse your bush, sometimes it works......I would use crunchier nuts than the pine nuts because pizzas from home do not have such a crunchy base, so instead I would have a crunchier nut to combine with the sloppyness of the tomato.......you know that sort of thing .
When people eat blue cheese (or a really strong cheddar) and combine it with wine or port, it really isnt for snobbyness, its because of the enhanced effect they have, cheese can open the roof of your mouth/pallet, enabling more tastebuds/taste to be accessed somehow.
Food really doesnt have to be snobby or classist, but you have to be careful yourself because you are in danger of vering into being a food snob yourself or (a fussy eater)
Perhaps if you live in a town that was stuck in the 70's, then we are being unfair to you, it is easy for those of us to mock, idf we live in big cities, because we have more types of cuisines that are not 'exotic'..... indian food in birmingham and many cities is normal.....currys are often the first and only cooking that 'real blokes' do (apart from barbecues)
pizza express is not middle class, its just 'cheap but substantially better than pizza hut'
don't know if you've had spinach?
What's your favourite pizza topping PocketMouse?
but only because of the freezing of a bread-based product.
These were already going on to 14 inch cheese and tomato bases; I had;
more homemade tomato base
two kinds of tesco value cheddar, grated and piled
ghost pepper barbeque sauce
I managed about 4 slices and had to run 5k the next day without eating anything. Epic dining. And I get paid for making stuff like that.
