Films that are considered to be pretty good that you have fallen asleep watching
The Dark Knight
Million Dollar Baby
Frost/Nixon
There's another one I've forgotten but never mind. I didn't even battle to stay awake watching these, I got bored and was a bit tired and lo and behold I fell asleep. Didn't bother trying to watch them again.
And you thought the films threads were all done. Shame on you.
One of the Godfathers I think
I find it really hard to sleep during films though. I tired to fall asleep in the cinema during Cemetery Junction just because I'm weirdly averse to walking out, but I couldn't manage it.
I tired!
Brazil
But he seemed like he was having a good time in that field.
Frost/Nixon
Casino Royale
The Godfather
Million Dollar Baby
The King's Speech
Solaris (remake)
And many others, no doubt.
Not exactly cinematic genius,
but I fell asleep during Moulin Rouge. My friends didn't understand how I could do this. I also fell asleep during some weird '80s art film about transvestites in New York.
first matrix and the other matrix one
lord of the rings
the one with Clint Eastwood where he goes a bit nuts at the bad neighbours
plenty more I can't recall just now
Probably 60-77% of all films I have seen since becoming and adult*
*getting a full-time job.
Master and Commander
Didn't even make it past the 20 min mark on this one. Have been reliably informed it's 'pretty good'.
Jackie Brown
I've tried many times, always fall asleep when some guy they go to shoot the guy in the trunk of the car (this happens, right?) and always wake when she's walking through the airport at the end.
It's fine,
you got to see the best bits.
Yeah Jackie Brown was the biggest disappointment ever.
I mean in later years we all learned to lower our expectations of Tarantino. But this one, coming off the back of Pulp Fiction... pretty devastating.
It's not self-indulgent in a wild, balls-out, over-the-top way, a la Kill Bill
It's self-indulgent in a flabby, plodding, couldn't-be-arsed-to-edit-the-fucking-thing way. You really notice the absence of Roger Avary, who co-wrote Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. This one just feels like Tarantino needed someone to get in there and ruthlessly slash 25% of its running time.
2046
It was a bit too much to follow at 3am whilst slanted. Should probably give it another go.
Rosemary's Baby
is one of only a few films I've fallen asleep to at the cinema. It's well good, but I was rpetty drunk and I'd seen it a couple of times before...
one of my friends fell asleep during Scent of a Woman
and swears that Al Pacino burns down the school with a flamethrower at the end.
hey, have you seent he film Legion?
Does the angel start talking in a foreign language at the end?
Million Dollar Baby is a terrible film.
Emotionally manipulative Oscar-bait shite.
I fell asleep during The Expendables, but then nobody's saying that was good.
I could provide a list of films my girlfriend has fallen asleep in
(often within the first 15 minutes), but it would probably crash DiS.
There's a joke about a DiSer having a girlfriend in here somewhere
But I can't be bothered to do the legwork. Let's assume I thought of it and everyone found it hilarious though.
Galaxy Quest
Went to see it at the cinema when I was about 12. In my defence, I had been up all night playing Driver on the Playstation beforehand.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
tried to watch this three times and have never made it through.
Apocalypse Now
2001 space odyssey
Great films, but they were always on in the middle of the night and are mega long.
The Lives of Others
I was really tired. I did buy it on DVD afterwards though.
Blade Runner.
Still not seen the whole thing yet. 6 attempts. 6 zzzzzz(s)
Ronin.
It's always on about midnight. I have never seen it to the end. Something to do with car chases.
The Iron Lady
Three times, three nights. Oscar my arse, pfft.
But let's be positive too
Frida: best film I've seen in a long time. Not keen on her monobrow but it has lots of redeeming features otherwise. Gonna look me some of that art up and maybe buy some of her stuffs. Not the self-portraits though, obvs.
The Hours - absolutely brilliant but I wanted to kill myself with the length it dragged on for. Now reading Mrs Dalloway and ordering the booking because I love to depress myself.
aaaaand, back to the negative:
A something or other method, forget the name, about Freud and Jung. Those faces she pulls. Really? Second most irritating film I've seen this year. I think that took at least two attempts.
And the good again:
Attack the Block: bloody hell, didn't expect to like it, was more than pleasantly surprised. A1+ effort. More British films like this please.
casablanca
it was 2 am in the morning
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
in the cinema, I could tell it was good I was just really really tired
^this
except the being able to tell it was good bit.
Also Blade Runner. But I was drunk & full of food at Christmas.
