Can't think of any other excuse for not having had a crumpet.
Re crumpets being similar to english muffins. They kind of are, in the sense that if aliens took a random sample of objects from planet Earth and came back with a crumpet, an english muffin, a turban, a Citroen Picasso and Dungeoness Power Station, they could be forgiven for likening them to each other. However, any human who would do so is clearly beyond contempt.
But I spent most of my life in America. I am not sure why I have never had a crumpet. It probably has something to do with the fact that growing up I was subjected to 'jokes' about drinking tea, eating crumpets and loving the Queen, y'know, because I had an English accent and I was living in Texas. I probably just stayed away from them and ate steak instead. To fit in.
that all eggs taste better when eaten with marmite though, right? Pop an egg on top. Like that judge from Masterchef used to say (maybe he still does?) it will change your life.
i can confirm: delicious
(well, poached anyway, but its all eggs)
Yes.
I'll have some ketchup on mine, too. Thanks.
I'm sorry ketchup is not allowed with eggs in my house
^ This
A filthy suggestion that eggs should be sullied with tomato sauce.
your hatred of a good complimentary condiment
is unjust and overly stringent
never even thought about this before
want to go home now
t mean eating crumpets
with a knife and fork? that seems weird
yes
that was the only drawback of the dish - it was a bit difficult to get a satisfactory forking method going. But it was fucking delicious.
difficulty with satisfactory forking?
Oh dear.
forking delicious
not sure about this eggy crumpet business....
You should be they are incredibly tasty.
it's a little out there
but I can get behind this.
sounds like there's potential for that to be a bloody delicious take on eggs Florentine
Easy on the fusion
I want this with borwn sauce and mayo on it.
mmmmmmmmm borwn sauce
what?
brown sauce AND mayo. on the same plate? together?
I believe she might be Scottish
<3
Eggy crumpets are better
doesnt really matter tho does it?
carbs + eggs = nice.
of course it matters
I am to believe this is crumpets dipped in beaten egg and fried.
If so it is possibly my favourite breakfast ever when served with some bacon and brown sauce.
what like crumpets soaked in an eggy mixture then fried?
intriguing. bit gutted i just used up all the eggs and crumpets.
exactly that
like the man above says, served with a bit of crispy bacon and it's hard to beat
Good pun.
Sounds good to me
just remembered 'cheesy crumpets' are delicious.
your mums certainly are
meths' two mums
rejected after the pilot
Smee men and a baby
no one follow up what they were about to follow up with.
no one.
Not sure if I'm allowed to talk about potatoes here?
For mash, I know always bake the potatoes, cut them in half and scoop out most of the middle, then make mash with that.
Next day I get the slightly fleshy kind, season them, put thyme and rosemary on them, olive oil, back in the oven for 15 minutes.
Two delicious potato servings from evey potato. Why haven't I been doing this all my life?
Know
evey potato - the forgotten member of animal collective
how long do you have to bake the spuds for?
About an hour if you have medium sized ones.
Slightly fleshy kind should be skins...
It's been a pretty tense morning.
that's too long for me
as in I'm not going to wait that long to make mashed potato
^ this.
except someone made it for me once and it was amazing.
yeah?
seems like a lot of faff. there has to be an easier way
There's no faff, you don't have to peel (not a saving for Theo) or boil water.
there is that.
also, minimal dishes.
count me in
oh the depravity
fix
used to have marmalade on honey when i wuz a kid
what just like a plate of honey with a massive blob of marmalade on top?
ooh i did me'sen a mischief there ah did!
meant either honey or marmalade on pycletes
I've never had egg on crumpets
or in fact, ever eaten a crumpet. I have had eggs on english muffins however (and wikipedia say the two are quite similar)
Sainsbury's used to do cheese and black pepper english muffins. If God ate poached eggs, I am pretty sure he would have them on these.
Also, scrambled egg on a scone.
with marmite.
Obviously.
are you English/British?

I am English

I'll accept that defence
Especially as I'm now thinking up some kind of steak based crumpet dish for dinner.
No.
or... Yes?
No.
On the other hand... OK then yeah why not!
dudes, i've only recently had my mind blown with crumpets and marmite
this is all too much.
you do realise
that all eggs taste better when eaten with marmite though, right? Pop an egg on top. Like that judge from Masterchef used to say (maybe he still does?) it will change your life.
I always have vegemite on my crumpets
not quite the same thing, I know, what with marmite tasting like shit, but in a similar vein nonetheless.
If they were just served up, with no opportunity to debate the wisdom of the idea
sure.
Can think of better things to do with my crumpets and my eggs, though
crumpets and bacon
breakfast of kings
