A ^this thread.
The visual style alone (for which Waking Life is a rickety prototype) is worth repeat viewings, and the story is understated poetry
should have been 'IMO'
I think any film starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder would struggle to be one of the best films of its month of release, let alone of the past 30 years.
They become outrageous, exaggerated cartoons! It's great!
^ pretty shit, but when it came out I was at 19 and it kind of reflected what a lot of weekends were like with my friends.
Watched it quite a few times back then. Have no desire to watch it ever again.
good heavens. can scarsely imagine a visual counterpart to the grizzly horror. and I'm only, like, 70 pages in.
great film tho somewhat loosely based on the book and with WSB biographical elements added.
might have to check it out.
was that actually called blaupunct? i don't remember
If anyone else on DiS has seen this, I will be freaking amazed. And delighted. What a fucking incredible movie.
Must-have viewing for anyone who thinks all pills are pure.
I thought it was a bit shit, self absorbed dj prick takes too many drugs and acts like a cunt as his life falls to pieces but then makes TEH BERSTESTEST TECHNO ALBUM EVAHR.
Self indulgent vanity project much.
And made me never want to hear any more of Paul Kalkbrenner's middle of the road techno ever again.
This was compounded by the fact some German punters mistook me for him when I was in Tresor.
But 'Sky & Sand' is a tune.
(Aside, most drugs films are shit. Cheers)
the Nic Cage one not the Harvey Keitel one
Are you sure about that?
most of them are fairly druggy though
not seen any myself.
you got me
*turns to drugs*
is fucking dreadful
I want to love his films, I love shoegaze, I love alternative cinema, I love dreamy aesthetics
It's just the atrocious dialogue, misuse of brilliant music and inherent trashiness that I can't stand
Mysterious Skin is great though
Haven't seen anything else by the guy, but it sounds like I needn't bother.
But don't watch the rest if you don't, it doesn't get any better
The thing about Mysterious Skin was that he was actually working from a novel so has all these constraints. It's just when he can do what he wants that it all turns to shit.
did you see Kaboom? Arguably the most anger-inducing film I've ever seen. It starts off as a passable college film (although Juno Temple telling some guy not to eat her out like its a bowl of spaghetti was appalling) then when it changes its style, oh dear God. In 2011 also, no film needs to have Placebo as a final song
