You really should have posted this under all the other ones either cos now you've just done this usual DiS thing of lol christains while avoiding other religions.
even though I'm not really. I hope you're happy.
good work at being outraged though
my point still stands though
i know nothing about buddhism but its interesting as heck and would like to learn about it
any uh Hot Tips?
well more daoist
but were also not a daoist.
remember atheism and agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive
i imagine that most atheists would fall into this category.
im probably atheist but call myself agnostic to avoid the bullshit
its probably pathetic but when i think of atheism i can only think of bullshit internet atheists and in particular this horrible fucker http://www.youtube.com/user/theamazingatheist
IF GOD EXISTED HED STOP ME FROM DOING THIS *puts vegetable up arse* WHERES YOUR GOD NOW HUH????????
did you see his reddit meltdown where he started telling rape victims to go and get raped again in great detail because fuck feminazis
i've never had a problem identifying as an atheist but yeah that whole reddity 'movement' has made it feel like in certain corners of the internet just calling yourself an atheist is aligning yourself with that shit. i guess it's more of a US thing though
the whole reddit/twitter atheist thing and there are internet communities about atheism etc made up of these people and yeah its horrible and not something i want to be even remotely associated with (i've actually talked to people irl about this who have mentioned these horrible people so i guess they are becoming more well known too outside of the internet) and yeah i dunno
TOTES AS OPPRESSED AS WOMEN AND LGBT PEOPLE
END THE OPPRESSION
hey what do you mean atheists can be oppressive too, go back to the kitchen you dumb bitch
still becomes a thread about feminism. incred
it's not *that* off to imply they're oppressed.
Not so much of an issue in other liberal democracies though.
I do find the assumption atheists are by definition free-thinking a bit daft though.
"The pansy is the long-established and enduring symbol of freethought, its usage inaugurated in the literature of the American Secular Union in the late 1800s."
they're really not making it easy for themselves, are they?
although even then, while christianity does have a shitty strangehold on politics which absolutely deserves to be attacked, i'm not sure atheists are generally 'oppressed' as a group in a material everyday sense (except in the more harcore bible-belt areas of course, i don't imagine it's a barrel of laughs growing up somewhere like that and rejecting religion)
it just seems to me to be the only logical position.
i'm actually interested, why do people do this?
If they're a Christian in a purely administrative capacity
I'm still an agnostic.
I'm only Christian when I'm being contrary on DiS
I'd never really heard of the term "agnostic atheist", but yeh that pretty much sums me up.
Quite like the mysticism of being in a Catholic church service, I've taken Mass before when I was on a school exchange in Germany and didn't know what to do.
but he was not our messiah
the Prophet (Mohammed) isn't the same as the God (Allah), and it's the former that apparently shouldn't be depicted (and even then only according to some of the stricter teachings).
Ironically, Mohammed appeared in a much earlier episode (Super Best Friends) a number of times with absolutely no fuss whatsoever.
so has technically been in every episode for years
would have no qualms in beating up a bunch of Tamils if they defiled a buddhist temple. Also been known to destroy Tamil churches. And of course it was a buddhist monk who assasinated Sri Lanakan prime minister Bandaranaike in the 1950s, although it is not clear whether this was for nationalistic or mercantile reasons.
TAKE THAT RELIGIONS!!!!
Not because I think it's particularly sophisticated satire, but because this picture always makes me laugh: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6e/Touched_by_His_Noodly_Appendage.jpg
and not least because i can't look at that painting, or an variation thereof, without now thinking of Arrested Development
rules so that you can ride higher in society)
(belief that it is most spiritual to change rules to the benefit of the most humans)
I'm so lost at the moment with my beliefs that I don't really have a clue where I stand. 0 days since...
I genuinely believe that all religions have elements of truth to them ('may your God go with you' is meant in all seriousness, without allegory), and I believe in a great neutral energy which holds the Universe in balance. I can't elaborate any more than this. I'm too thought-plagued to be a Buddhist, unfortunately
y'know what, fine. It's okay. We're all okay.
I mean you lot just make it all up anyway.
So, HAIL PAN then eh?
