Tuesday Football Thread.
No?
Talk about a slow news day...
Not a lot of football last night; Brentford win, that's about it.
Napoli v Chelsea tonight, and Madrid's trip to Russia. Bits of Leaague football, including Blackpool v West Ham.
AVB publically calls out Abramovich. That'll end well. The Daily Mail says Rafa's being lined up to replace him.
Alan Curbishly snubs Wolves.
Keith Curle appointed Nottingham County manager.
West Ham pull a Spurs and let the media know they almost signed a player months ago. Chelsea surprisingly rejecting their loan offer for £50m flop Fernando Torres.
Anything remotely interesting to talk about today?

"Nottingham County" looks and sounds really odd
when used in full.
That's because it isn't their name
You're right
That must be why.
because it is.
it's a term only used by hardcore Notts Forest supporters.
they're the county of Nottinghamshire's team, whilst Forest only represent the gun-toting, crime-ridden city itself, OR SUTIN.
fuck me, i'm bored.
Forest represent the hardened, philanthropic band of merry men that lurk in the woods
I like the Never Mind the Buzzocks "or sutin" reference
I think Sullivan was just letting the fans know they made an enquiry
about him, as they did with Tevez. Nowhere near close to signing them. Suprisingly
Sullivan doesn't approve of turning the flodloghts on...forking out for nando's wages would give him a coronary
Went to the Brentford game last night, was pretty good but there was thing radly all about so couldnt quite see the 3rd goals
Shame
What is the question?
I think Villas-Boas has done very, very well by himself in recent press conferences.
Of course he didn't actually call out Abramovich or actually ask for public backing, but that's not that important really- he's positioned himself as a lone voice of reason and he'll win either way. He'll either get to say I told you so at a Chelsea press conference in a year's time or he'll be able to point to Chelsea embarrassing themselves once again, most likely after getting a huge payout and a shiny new job.
Not sure if I can watch tonight's game, which is a shame. Napoli are a fantastic counter-attacking team but pretty useless at breaking sides down.
You'll be alright.
Chelsea are clinical infront of goal and rarely vulnerable on the break.
I'm really struggling to enjoy Chelsea's current woes
They've been so huge for so long now that I just don't trust them not to bounce back. Which is a real shame because I'd love to lose myself in some schadenfreude. Maybe when you finish below Liverpool and then your captain gets sent to prison forever and ever.
It's probably because they don't have many genuine woes, yet anyway.
Bit difficult to get excited about a club you don't like POSSIBLY not qualifying for the Champion's League.
Nah
Super-rich club that's bought success for the last decade, spending ludicrous amounts of money to buy some comedy mishap players (and spending millions to buy a comedy mishap manager) missing out on CL qualification? That would be fucking brilliant. I just want to enjoy it WHILST it's happening rather than afterwards, I just can't because I suspect it won't happen :(
You might be in luck
If Arsenal had at least one good defender...
it'd have aleady been pretty much confirmed.
I'm even starting to hope Liverpool finish 4th (assuming Newcastle can't) because at least they have the basics of a team, whereas Chelsea or Arsenal really don't.
Hearing AVB blame their loss to us as derailing their season
Makes facing relegation seem like a mere annoyance
It really did go to shit after that, too.
Causation or coincidence, who knows.
Mourinho back to Chelsea in the summer
Wesley Sneijder to join him.
(according to the ever reliable Italian website Calciomercato)
I think an English club would be foolish to spend big money on Sneijder, personally.
Although, i've just read he's got a younger brother called Rodney.
Del Sneijder would be a top signing for anyone in England
He's not really impressed me that much whenever i've seen him since his one amazing season.
Seems a bit...whingy, and is definitely picking up more niggles.
He'll be 28 in the summer, so there'll be no real resale value...and he's said to be on around £200k a week.

Can we just got on with it and appoint a new manager please?
Cheers.
I think Mick McCarthy's currently free...?
Could do worse.
i'd have huge respect for any Premier League side who appointed a player-manager.
it wouldn't even matter who it was, they'd become my second team.
if they made their goalie wear leggins and parked a couple of cars behind the nets i'd probably support them full stop.
I heard Jody Craddock was offered player-manager but rejected it.
So close, yet so far.
he's probably too busy painting tbh
Won't be able to see tonight's game
as I am attempting to go to two gigs at the same time. As long as we avoid an Arsenalesque dicking I'll be happy. I shall predict a heart warming 1-1 and Napoli reported to UEFA for racist chanting. The resulting £200 fine will really show 'em.
martin jols brothers
are called Cock and Dick
False
Martin and Cock are brothers. Dick is not related, even though both have said in the past that they are. Dutch humour!
(Dick Jol is a former football referee)
Dick Advocaat has a brother called Cornelius
I love Dutch first names. The fact there was a world-class international team that contained an Edwin, an Arthur, a Clarence, an Edgar, a Ronald, a Frank, a Patrick and a Dennis is brilliant.
Wolves looking at McDermott from Reading, apparently.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17112269
weird.
why?
considering all the guff they were saying about getting the 'finished article'
it seems odd to target a boss whose been a professional football manager for barely three years
To be fair, they only said that in the initial announcement after sacking Mick.
It's pretty clear there aren't many 'finished articles' about after Curbishley ruled himself out (and the fan backlash over the possible appointment of Bruce has ruled him out), so a promising talent it is. Hence interest in Poyet and McDermott. Circumstances change, I guess.
Makes sense to me.
Not particularly young, but definitely among the more promising managers at that level. He's achieved great things with that Reading side.
He's done a really good job at Reading
Perhaps his success in steering them away from relegation up the table is interesting to Wolves
Reading play very similar to us, and we like to pinch their players.
I'd take him over Bruce, I think, although he was at Reading for ten years before being put in charge - I'd worry that he wouldn't be able to get the best out of some of our players in a much shorter amount of time.
Thomaszszs Kzsuszcjciazszk has gone on loan to Wolves
*Watford
Well that certainly makes more sense.
he'll still be 2nd choice
Maybe
Maybe not.

Yup. World class posting Ant

Interesting that the Delap red card got overturned, i think.
Especially as people have been making idiot faces at those who suggested it ought to have been.
It's a pretty stupid decision.
And odd given the FA's general stance on appeals this year (Milijas and some others spring to mind) I thought the Delap one was a pretty poor tackle.
I don't even know where i stand on it, to be honest.
I don't think we can blame the refs. Even after seeing several replays i wasn't sure whether i thought it ought to be a red card (different to whether it may be by the letter of the law). Making a call like that in real time shouldn't be down to one man without a replay.
Is it a challenge that could potentially cause a bad injury? Maybe.
Is it likely to? No.
Yeah it isn't the refs fault.
So much confusion with what's legal in a tackle these days.
In this case I figure it should just be the referee's call though, as there are arguments both for and against a red. The FA backing Delap on this appeal will surely only cause more confusion in the future.
michail antonio
signs on loan. eligible to play in the steel city derby on sunday and will be with us for the playoffs (if we don't go up automatically)
hopefully he'll have a similar impact to ben marshall.
So you may remember Gavin Peacock moved to Canada to become a church minister
but were you aware he has a religious blog? http://gavinpeacock8.blogspot.com/
given Napoli's inconsistant nature...
we can't be sure Chelsea will get a dicking tonight, can we?
Malouda starts ahead of Lampard.
Not going to adhere AVB to any Chelsea fans- the most of whom are already sceptical. Also not sure why we persisit with Meireles.
Probably the right decision though.
Malouda isn't exactly on his A-game and doubtless never will be again, but he's better at tracking back than Lampard and we'll need that tonight.
I'm a pretty big Meireles fan, even though most Chelsea fans seem to have taken a disliking to him. He constantly makes himself available to receive the ball and at least tries to venture forward.
Anyone have any reliable streams that don't require me to download anything?
Sacked off going to the pub.
hopefully one of these will be ok...

Fuckin hate you plastics
You can get to naples in a couple of hours by plane, only a pony if you book flights as soon as the draw was made. You MUST have met a couple of italians when you played inter a couple of years ago, you could have stayed with them, right? Take a day off tomorrow BISH BASH BOSH. Armchair fans, hate 'em </KiK>
Defending from the half way line again - that's what I like to see.
Not playing too badly to be fair..
Some nice passing going on up front.
Camera work is annoying
So many close ups
Wanted to see AVB's reaction.
ooh
:'D
Napolol
didn't know Angelina Jolie had taken up being physio for Chelsea
she is the first name I look out for on the team sheet
A beautiful milf, no question
I like this ref.
he's been paid off
wait...
Napoli have there pants down here
A-ha!
Pants back on
Ramires. Dinner. Finish.
oh well, if its as simple as that Gary
WHY DON'T YOU GO FUCKING DO IT
haha
he's done a Balotelli
this should be
<---here
:'D
Wow, could have been any scoreline
indeed
two VERY poor defences.
Chelsea need to keep it real - think they can even take a 3-1 loss back to the Bridge and have a realistic chance of qualifying.
Napoli are not all that
cliche alert
they're set up to defend a lead away from home though aren't they?
think chelsea need a draw tonight to put the onus on nap in the 2nd leg
CUNTS
great game
Cahill has been slow, ramires clumsy. The napoli back three look rusty too.
That Ladbrokes advert.....seriously the worst advert on television at the moment.
that and the will hill adverts
with the apache remix
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
:'D
Is Essien injured again?
Nah, just rubbish.
Whoop!
Those Cameramen are struggling with the amount of highlights they're having to show
that's not how TV works Gary you fucking mong
GAME OVER YEAHHHHH
farcical scenes
Luiz - comedy error
he should go into stand-up
worst player of all time
outfield player in net for west ham
Henri Lansbury
Three games in a row with ten men now. It's like we're deliberately trying to win points from the most ridiculous positions possible...
it's getting ridiculous now
supposedly Lansbury is a bit handy in goal hence no sub keeper on the bench
Sounds, erm, sensible
I bet he's no Julian Dicks though.
any excuse to post this

:''''''')
3-1!
The best moment in that video is when Julian puts Steve Bull and Andy Mutch on the floor in quick succession against Wolves. I remember ITV had already given him man of the match in that game and then rescinded it when he got sent off 30 seconds later. Boo.
Essien water holder!
Same old, really.
Didn't play all that badly, in fact played quite well in many regards. Just none of the regards that actually matter.
Unbelievable shite coming from everyone involved here
All I'm taking from the commentary here is that Chelsea more or less won, Napoli would be shit in the premier league and that a game with awful defending is INCREDIBLE VIEWING
fuck off
I quite like sky sports CL coverage
Souness, stelling, nev
at least souness was the only one (as usual) with the balls to openly say
erm, Chelsea were a bit shit, they're 3-1 down
3rd 1-1 in 4 games, we're officially having a blip now
May as well have one, we're still clear at the top. But not half as clear as we could be. Stevenage loom large on Saturday...
the season that keeps on giving.
United knocked out of the Champions League, rarely top, often humbled.
Arsenal the worst they've been for 20 years.
Chelsea constantly terrible.
Liverpool awful at home, imploding, pulling a cup double out of the bag.
Spurs consistantly better than everyone else but still de-trousered twice by City.
Add a City capitulation onto that and i guess you've got the most amazing season all round if you're a neutral.
I'm not a Neutral
Norwich are 8th
not the worse result for chelsea
was probably only a goal between the teams. could see chelsea winning 2-0 at stamford bridge, but who knows
Could just as easily see Cavani potting a hatrick.
That Chelsea back four is all over the place.
yeah, man
those two upfront for Napoli are a great partnership. aint seen better in europe, actually.
2-0 is not unobtainable tho. Esssein coming back, etc
un-attainable
;-D
Merson: "Chelsea were the better team. Napoli didn't deserve any of their goals".
Neville was insinuating the same during the broadcast. Nonesense.
Have either of them watched Napoli play in the last 3 seasons?? Could have wrapped up the tie if Maggio didn't thump it straight at Cole.
Jamie Wedknapp sticking up for his english mates
Tevez

not the best apology, eh
