    • Yeah no point seeing Avatar, it's a big blue shit.

Inception is worth a watch though.

      rich78 @hal_krishna | 17 Feb '12, 10:35 | X
      • I thought Avatar was

sufficiently visually lush to gloss over the fact that it had little to no plot.

The think that annoyed me most about it, by a country mile, was the use of Papyrus font for the subtitles.

        TheWza @rich78 | 17 Feb '12, 10:51 | X
        • It was certainly a spectacle and a novelty in the cinema.

But if you're just going to watch it at home, what's the point? You may as well make people out of Blu tac, take LSD and watch what they do, the plot will almost certainly be better.

          rich78 @TheWza | 17 Feb '12, 10:59 | X

Which I assume from the title must be 4 times better than the original.

Or wear it as a badge of pride?

    fin_ | 17 Feb '12, 10:41 | X
    • I often pretend, yeah.

I've seen most of the 'classics', but I haven't really seen much that people of my age tend to rate- Inception, Avatar, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Shawshank, Bruce Almighty, Superbad and so on. I usually pretend to because it's easier and doesn't make me have to justify myself and thus come across as a snob.

      hal_krishna @fin_ | 17 Feb '12, 10:43 | X
      • bruce almighty

        is a classic????

I watched Rocky the other day. Like Rambo, much better than i imagined, and probably much better than the rest of the series (ie. not a cartoony reimagining of the original concept that happened with Rambo)

        • nah, not a classic at all.

People my age tend to rate it though, so I sometimes feel I ought to watch it.

          hal_krishna @gamecat | 17 Feb '12, 10:52 | X

        • First Blood is a brilliant film

I love how it takes the idea of training people to kill then dumping them back into society where everyone hates the conflict they were forced to sacrifice for to an absolute extreme.

for the most part. Dr No especially is a great film, but there's some dross later on, especially under Roger Moore.

    • you haven't seen Jaws??

      .................

      fiddygent @TheWza | 17 Feb '12, 11:04 | X
    • Here are some of the rather entertaining films which you have missed

Mad Max 2, Die Hard, Die Hard with a Vengeance (that's Die Hard 3), Terminator, Total Recall, Predator, Red Heat, Conan the Barbarian, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, You Only Live Twice, License to Kill, View to a Kill (Christopher Walken and Grace Jones are the villians), Jaws, Rambo: First Blood.

None of them are earth shattering commentaries on anything important and serve no function other than SPECTACLE for SPECTACLE'S sake.

You have also listed Rocky twice. <shakes head>

      xheathenx @TheWza | 17 Feb '12, 11:12 | X
    • You should watch X Men First Class

      It's brilliant.

Michael Fassbender travels the world brutally murdering Nazis

      LordLuciusBanter @TheWza | 17 Feb '12, 11:32 | X
      • WITH HIS MIND!

I watched this with very very low expectations, and I can confirm that it is actually an entertaining viewing experience, beyond the expectations which came from it being a prequel in a failed franchise, as a film in it's own right, it's good.

        xheathenx @LordLuciusBanter | 17 Feb '12, 11:35 | X
        • best cameo EVER too

          LordLuciusBanter @xheathenx | 17 Feb '12, 11:42 | X
        • My expectations for it would be so indescribably low,

that it couldn't fail to exceed them.

But that's like saying that i should be happy to receive a plate of semi-rotten fruit if i ordered a plate of dogshit. but knowing that there's a plate of delicious vienetta on offer, i'm not gonna waste my time ordering dog shit, semi-rotten fruit or otherwise. sure, the vienetta might be strawberry instead of mint, but it's still pretty much certain to be an excellent choice of dessert.

          TheWza @xheathenx | 17 Feb '12, 12:08 | X
          • These are exactly my thoughts on the matter...exactly.

  • Jurassic Park

Didn't see it in the cinema, no-one in our house growing up bought the video, only ever caught little moments of it when it's been on telly. I've not deliberately avoided it, but from the clips I've seen it's pretty obvious what happens.

    chanticleer | 17 Feb '12, 10:48 | X

Not sure looking back why I bothered with the first two, to be honest. Dull dull dull dull dull.

    • The first one's alright, the other two are just fucking painful.

      rich78 @TheKennedyCurse | 17 Feb '12, 11:14 | X
    • The Two Towers is the best

I liked the spectacle of The Return of the King, but I guess the problem is that the source material is really drawn out and long winded. At least they cut out the whole getting back to Hobbton and having to fight to take it back. That probably would've added another hour

Any of the Harry Potter films.
Sixth Sense (no point, I know the twist ending).
Bridget Jones Diary (and many many many other films of that ilk, 4 weddings and stuff like that)
    Casablanca
    Forrest Gump
    Lawrence of Arabia
    Cinema Paradiso
I've only seen two Woody Allen films (the one where he gets chased by a giant tit and the one where he plays James Bond)
    The Passion of the Christ

    There's probably loads of others.

Anything that has /that/ red font in the poster or promo material won't be viewed ever.
Any film where the protaganist dresses up as a woman/a baby/someone of a different race/an animal in order to protect the witness in a police investigation won't be watched ever.
Anything the Wayans brothers are involved with, won't be watched ever.
